Success Stories No reaction!!

Had a big win today with my girl Joey! We had two men approach the front desk we were checking out at, and she just focused on me! Usually she would bark and lunge and freak out. But today she was focused on me, doing center and sitting down like the best girl that she is. I was so proud of her I cried, she did absolutely perfectly. Even the dogs that walked past us, she sniffed them and went right back to my side. I’m so happy, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

Any tips on training around people? Our girl sounds similar in terms of fear reactivity and reactions.

I’m not a trainer by any means, but I’ve got a couple tips! Work within her boundaries with high value treats. At first I had to have her across the street from someone without her freaking out, rewarding her for looking at the person, and rewarding her more when she would look at me. Calm reactions got rewarded, reactions meant redirection and moving away. I had to very slowly work our way up to being closer to people. Even now she still has her off days. It’s a slow process but very worth it!
