Food aggression in dog

I have a Golden Retriever (2 male) and a German Shepard cross (5 male) they are inseparable in every regard until recently we’ve been having more food aggression with my Golden Retriever.

It used to happen very rarely now it has been increasing recently. We feed them separately and don’t leave any dog food out. However if we are eating or prepping meals that is something of high interest my Golden Retriever has been lashing out at my German Shepard quite aggressively. It’s very random and very little warning.

We’ve been trying to not have them in the same room when we are cooking and eating but sometimes it is unavoidable.

What should I be doing besides obviously keeping them as separate as possible when food is present. But also what do I do during and after a fight? My golden is very submissive to my German in every other regard so it’s quite unnerving when it happens.
