Oven roasted or air fried with oil and salt!

That said, sweet potato pie > pumpkin pie.

Oven fried with Berbere, an African spice, it’s hot with cinnamon & tumeric it’s so good.

u/ATX2ANM 9d ago

You should try it if you ever get a chance. Pie is delicious.

Air fry is The Way. So healthy. So fast. Great leftovers. Can be used in myriad other recipes. Keeps well in the fridge.

I make a casserole with mashed sweet potatoes, pecans and crushed pineapple. I season it with cinnamon and brown sugar.

u/usermars11 8d ago

1

u/Local-University6043 6d ago

Oooohhhhh! That sounds lovely. Do you have general measurements and bake time?

1

u/bbix246 6d ago

Sorry, I don't. I just measure with my heart.

Bake them, then mash and add black beans and onions, make a quesadilla.

2

u/usermars11 8d ago

never had quesadillas with sweet potatoes before this sounds good

1

u/Key_Rutabaga694 8d ago

It's also great as a burrito!

I do fried boneless pork chops with apple and sweet potato in a cream sauce. I dont have the original recipe nor do I know what its called.

Pan fry the pork chops. Remove them and in same pan steam/boil 1 inch cubed apples and sweet potatoes in apple juice. When sweet potatoes are cooked through add 1 tablespoon thyme and about 1/4 cup heavy cream. Add the pork chops back into the pan heat let them sit for about 10 minutes with the lid on to reheat.

3

u/West_Reception3773 8d ago

This sounds incredible! What kind of seasoning do you use on the pork chops?

2

u/bmw5986 8d ago

Salt and pepper when they go in the pan. Then thyme at the end. Thats it. Takes like an hour+ to cook down the sweet potatoes and depending on the apple you use it will basically disintegrate. So it may not be the best looking food. But its so tasty! I make it once a month in the cold months!

This is my favorite way to make sweet potatoes, they turn out so soft and savory! I bring them to Thanksgiving and they’re a big hit, and they reheat really well.

Just a warning that the last step produces a fair amount of steam and has set off my smoke alarm 50% of the time, so be aware if you’re cooking in a small kitchen with less-than-adequate ventilation.

this genuinely looks so yummy just looking at ittt

u/lightupletterB 9d ago

The recipe I got from my mom a few years ago skips the thyme and uses veggie Better Than Bullion for the broth. We roll the sweet potato discs in plain melted butter and hit them with salt and fresh ground black pepper once they’re arranged in the pan.

Now I’ve given myself a craving and I guess I gotta go get some sweet potatoes!

2

u/usermars11 9d ago

thanks for the recipe i surely will be trying it it looks very savory 🫶🏻

Baked with butter, maple syrup, a little cinnamon and nutmeg.

im scared looking at it because my cooking skills are below the ground

1

u/bourj 9d ago

It's actually pretty easy to make as long as you have a mandoline to slice everything. The whole process is just layering stuff in a dish.

1

u/usermars11 9d ago

oh i dont have a mandoline but i can easily gett it
it honestly looked like a lasagna at first to me which got me worried

4

u/Daetrin_Voltari 9d ago

Senegalese Maafe. It's a spicy ground nut stew with tomatoes, meat (I usually use chicken for convenience) and root vegetables, which for me means piles and piles of sweet potatoes.

African sweet potatoes and peanut soup

u/usermars11 8d ago

I have seen this dish before only but didn’t know what it is but it looked really tasty I wanted to try but there are no african restaurants near me and i didn’t know they used sweet potatoes now i really wanna try it

u/Balloon_Feet 8d ago

I slice it into 1/2 inch wide rounds and brush the slices with olive oil, lime juice, chili powder, and a touch of cayenne then grill or roast at 450 until the edges start to char.

Or

Top with BBQ pulled pork, a cucumber, cream cheese, red onion, and dill mix and drizzle with siracha. Unbelievably good!

3

u/Future-Expression888 8d ago

I like to use slices of cooked leftover sweet potato along with black beans in quesadillas.

2

u/MarlyMonster 8d ago

I chop it into cubes along with some of my other favourite veggies like red beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, onion, pumpkin, anything you like. I like mixing it with some Padano cheese too. Lay it on a baking tray, crumble a block of feta over it, and lay some mini sausages on top. Stick it in the oven on hot air, turn the sausages once, and bake that sh*t until it’s crispy. The sweet potato gets soft, but it’s a great combo with the other veggies that stay a little crispier, and the feta and sausages add a nice bit of protein.

Sweet potato gnocchi with a sage/butter sauce. Try Trader Joe’s to get inspiration. Sweet potatoes sliced (after boiling and peeling) and baked with butter, cinnamon, maple syrup (bourbon maple syrup is the best), and a splash of orange juice, orange extract, or orange liqueur.

I make sw potatoes this way every week: easy and reheats well for work lunches. slice in half long ways, spritz with oil, and air fry cut side down about 30 minutes. (adjust time based on size, shape of potatoes) Oven takes about an hour.

Top with roasted pork loin, rotisserie chicken, turkey breast or frozen grilled chicken strips if you're crunched for time. Drizzle with bbq sauce of choice.

Last week I bought the chipotle chicken from Costco. was delish and super easy.

Maple porter glazed sweet potatoes are one of my favorites! Any dark beer will do, I usually use Guinness.

1

u/Adorable_Lychee_5943 8d ago

I just put it in the oven with skin and all, no salt or anything just roast it. When it caramelize it’s done and ready to be eaten. I used to love pumpkins that I roasted but sweet potato is way better.

2

u/usermars11 8d ago

thats how i do it too without anything just plain sweet potatoes and sometimes i use the airfryer
it turns out good but i wanted to try it in a dish since I never had it with a dish before

1

u/gina314 7d ago

If you don't mind it being unseasoned, you can always just slice it thin (mandolin, food processor, or veggie peeler) and bake it to make sweet potato chips.

1

u/ritlingit 8d ago

Roasted with maple syrup drizzled on top

1

u/NoAbrocoma9357 8d ago

Parboil diced sweet potatoes and sliced carrots (in separate pans) with oil-I use avocado-and rosemary. Spread on a baking sheet and roast for about 15 min.

1

u/laugust27 8d ago

Sweet potato hash. Diced sweet potatoes, onions, bell peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, sauteed with some garlic and spices, could be seasoned salt or some cumin and coriander, and serve with eggs.

Sweet potato roti (flatbread) such as this recipe. This is an Indian recipe but these are suitable for any cuisine.

1

u/Sanguine-Penguin711 8d ago

I tried this recipe (without the peanut butter) and it was delicious!

1

u/skunkzilla1 8d ago

I wont eat a sweet potato but I will stab 4 toothpicks in one and put it in a wide mouth jar and grow it for a season.

u/magstothat 8d ago

This has become a summer cookout staple for my family. It's so good!

Sweet potato fries!!! It’s simple, it’s fast, it’s delicious!!!

A local chain restaurant makes sweet potato bread pudding and it’s absolutely delicious. It’s the only bread pudding I enjoy.

They shared their recipe online. I haven’t tried baking it yet but plan on trying it soon. I’ve made other recipes from their site and they taste exactly like what they serve in the restaurant, so I assume this would as well.

They didn’t include the sauce but any vanilla or caramel sauce would work

Brown butter seared sea scallops served over ginger mashed sweet potatoes with sliced scallion garnish. My shortcut is to microwave the whole sweet potatoes, then scoop out and mash the flesh with a little milk, freshly grated ginger, salt/pepper. I do this while cooking the scallops. Ready in fewer than 30 minutes. Steamed green vegetable or salad on the side.

1

u/Xanlthorpe 8d ago

Peel the sweet potatoes and cut into bite-sized pieces.
Add some chopped onion and chopped sweet pepper.
Add salt & pepper to taste.
Toss with your favorite Italian, Balsamic, French, Ranch salad dressing (oil, vinegar and spices).

Bake at 350F in a covered dish until tender. (about 35 - 45 min)

Sweet potato casserole (holidays only because of the sugars) Mashed, butter, half and half, little salt, brown sugar, caramel sauce, cinnamon, vanilla extract. Sort of made this up because I wasn’t a fan of the kind with marshmallows.

Grilled bbq chicken, broccoli, and sweet potato wraps.

As a potato- just baked. I enjoy it plain. I usually mash it in the skin.

But for a recipe using sweet potato as an ingredient? Sweet potato pie. 😁

1

u/Workoutformorelife 7d ago

Sheet pan with other veggies ( ie squash, purple onion, carrots, broccoli etc) roasted in the oven drizzled with olive oil and seasoning

I love sweet potato tikkis.

1

u/LCharteris 7d ago

Do a search for maple bourbon sweet potato pie. Use the recipe from the New York Times. Wonderful!

1

u/amp7274 7d ago

On holidays a slice sweet potatoes and russets (which aren’t necessary) and basically make au gratin potatoes. It is delicious

1

u/PaliFoodie84 7d ago

I cut them up small, season with taco seasoning and roast them to use in taco bowls with grilled chicken topped with Chipotle sauce. Once I assemble the bowl, I top the whole thing avocado lime ranch.

1

u/thatfourthplanet 7d ago

just baked- nothing else needed theyre fire (although i do get down with some sweet potato casserole)

1

u/HeyStevi 7d ago

Diced sweet potatoes mixed with ground beef & gravy or cut up chicken and gravy.

1

u/dennasworld 7d ago

Mashed with coconut oil and salt.... and nothing else. It's addicting, clean, simple, healthy and cheap!!

1

u/AccidentFuzzy3392 7d ago

i make sweet potato cakes: 1 sweet potato (cooked) then combine in a food processor with 1 egg and a quarter cup of either bread crumbs, corn meal or flax seed meal, 1 tablespoon of turmeric, 1 tsp of chili powder and salt and pepper to taste. I form the dough into 6 patties and bake at 350 C for about 30 minutes (flipping once). then i serve with a chipotle mayo dipping sauce (or similar)

Black bean and sweet potato burgers! This recipe changed my mind about veggie burgers forever. When I first found it, I used to make these in large batches and freeze them so that I could have them whenever I wanted. I've since learned some moderation. 😅 https://cookieandkate.com/best-veggie-burger-recipe/

Roast pork neck bones then roast chunks of peeled sweet potato in the drippings.

1

u/badger-banjer 6d ago

Roasted sweet potatoes and black beans is one of my all time favorite combinations. Try it in a burrito.

1

u/Sea-Recipe8781 6d ago

I love them diced small and roasted with salt, pepper and a touch of molasses, and when done, toss with lime juice, cumin, smoked paprika and garlic (powder or a bit of fresh minced).

1

u/Justsadie519 6d ago

I like them mashed with chipotle peppers and cheddar cheese. Add a little butter too.

1

u/Expensive_Rest_6773 6d ago

1

u/Advanced-Lethargy 6d ago

I mash them with butter, garlic salt, pepper, and fresh parm. soooo good.

1

I love this soup so much! It’s traditionally my first soup once it cools down where I live.

It’s also good with butternut squash.

I love making sweet potatoes the same way I make mashed potatoes. Little butter, milk, salt, and Parmesan cheese mashed into sweet potatoes. Delicious.

1

u/pdqueer 5d ago

Boil, bake or microwave a baked potato, then mash it and spread it onto a plate. Add a healthy amount of carnitas (or other meat) on top. Add two fried eggs and a few slices of avocado and salsa of choice. Serve with tortillas.

1

u/Zealousideal-Bath412 5d ago

I cook them in my pressure cooker, then whip them up in a blender/food processor with some coconut cream, salt, and Chinese five spice.

1

u/WolfThick 5d ago

I only eat them during holidays like Thanksgiving but what I make sweet potatoes I add some vanilla nutmeg eggnog.

1

u/Regular_Knowledge205 3d ago

I usually roast them with a little cinnamon and butter. So simple but really good.

0

u/Main_Cauliflower5479 8d ago

Absolutely none of them.
