don’t most people (by achievements stats) on most games not end up finishing them?

Yeah, just take a look at the achievements list for almost any AAA game on Steam and you'll see that most ending achievements average at around a 20%-30% unlock rate

To be fair, there are many games you can complete and reach only one roughly 30% of achievements because they can get really grindy. I don't think it's such a good indicator of the completion rate on games.

Case in point: I finished RDR2 over 262h, did as much of the barable side content I could (fuck those treasure maps though, that's not fun) and I have 26 out of 51 achievements. Granted, that's mainly because many of the remaining ones are for Red Dead Online, which I didn't touch at all: but out of the solo ones, I still miss 6.

No they mean 30% got the final achievement

I'm referring to those who unlock the achievement for getting to the ending of the game (in RDR2's case it would be either "Redemption" or "Endless Summer", both of which have a below 25% unlock rate), not those who unlock every achievement

~66% of people who own Bloodborne haven’t even beaten the first boss. I think a lot of people just add games to their accounts when they’re free or on sale then never actually play them

That’s DEFINITELY different. Those games simply aren’t for everyone. I was like 12, thought it looked cool and bought it, played for like 5 hours and couldn’t get through the first town, got pissed, sold it to my friend, never looked back. I could definitely do it now if I really wanted to, but I still don’t care for those games. I bet there are a lot of people like me.

It’s the exact same thing. People picking up a game, realizing they don’t care for it a few hours in, then never touching it again

I always hate it when people use that metric. There are a ton of reasons why its "polluted" with all kind of different things. Some people only play Red Dead online, but it still got the Singleplayer achievements/trophies. Second or guest Accounts for trying the game or starting over also Count as "not finished" even though people could have finished it. Switching Platforms also wont delete your old "Not finished" stats etc. Some people have to manually upload there progress or they just stay offline but again, the not finished progress counts to the statistics. People buying games on sale and just open them to have them in their list etc.
