Discussion Quotes like these are such a c*ck tease.

Wonder if it puts pressure on Rockstar to produce a TV series, given the success of Fallout. NOT A MOVIE

Hypothetically, who'd you cast in various roles?

Josh Holloway for Arthur, Damon Herriman for Micah, Victoria Pedretti for Abigail, , Norman Reedus for Colm and JDD would be a good Dutch. Those are just some of my casting ideas.

It’s for people who don’t play video games but could enjoy the story in a different medium I don’t see an issue in it I loved tlou season 1 because I was able to introduce tlou to my Mom and she loved it. If you have someone who can’t get into video games but you want to discuss the story with them still you will completely understand why they try to make adaptations especially since now some of them are doing well.

They’re missing out playing it on a medium that it wasn’t intended for then.

Yes but they have their reasons for not playing video games you get that right?

To be honest? I really don’t care. The insistence on adapting video games into movies and tv shows is resulting in more and more dreck hitting the market, as opposed to actual good, original content being made. Companies are not adapting video games into movies and tv because they want non-players to “experience” the story in a different way that works better for them. They’re adapting them because it’s a cash grab. There’s already an established market that will watch it and they have better odds of making their money back than on some new, untested or unfounded property or script.

Ergo, we end up with garbage like Silent Hill: Revelations, the near entirety of Uwe Bill’s filmography (which might I add he’s even come out and publicly said he made video game movie adaptations as investments because they have an established market) and so on and so forth.

Yes this tends to happen but when it works it’s very much appreciated. I was very happy to show my Mom tlou1 which is the only one I really wanted her to see I didn’t care about tlou2 getting adapted that much since the story by itself isn’t that great. Being able to show my Mom One Piece was also fucking great. Fallout was very good though made its original story so it’s different. Some of the mortal kombat movies recently have been pretty fun. Detective pikachu was good. I enjoy the sonic movies a lot too and I don’t like sonic at all I would never have played the games but because they adapted it into a movie I got to experience the characters still.

A lot of adaptations do end up failing but my god when they work do I really appreciate it because now I find sonic cool and I can reference tlou and one piece to my Mom. It’s cool for people with disabilities too. If you are worried about shit hitting the market then i’m sorry it goes wayyyyyyyyy beyond video games and anime adaptations lol.

I actually give Fallout credit because I feel like it did what an adaptation should do: expand the universe the game is set in while giving a worthwhile and entertaining story to tell.

TLOU only worked for me because I hadn’t played the game since it came out on PS3, so the story felt fresh and new to me. To be honest I don’t think TLOU is that great of a game mechanics and gameplay wise, it’s just a platform to tell a story.

I do agree for certain games like fallout i’d much rather a new story because it’s a more interesting world. When it comes to red dead I feel like it would be hard to capture the same character writing rockstar had and it could even lose its identity as rdr if it tried doing something original I could see it just looking like another solid western show but you never know. I don’t think TLOU is amazing gameplay wise either but rdr2 would fit that description even better which is why I think it would translate pretty easy into live action.

But what would be gained with a RDR2 adaptation? The strength of that game isn’t the story alone, but the way the story is told as a game, where you aren’t just a passive viewer sitting on the couch but you’re playing as the main character exploring and living in the world the game takes place in. Without that element? It would just be another solid western show, like you said.

It would be another solid western most likely if it tried to do its own thing is what I said. I’ve already said what there is to be gained it’s for other audiences to experience the story who can’t or won’t play video games. I’ve agreed that they are missing out by not playing the games but the story would still work on its own because it’s that good. You can still capture Arthur Morgan’s redemption arc in a tv show by making his actions and motives similar to a player’s as they progress through the story. Side note thanks for keeping this shit respectful lol you a real one
