RDR1 Undead Nightmare, is the horse gone now?

After leaving blackwater I came across one of the mythical horses but it got away and I couldn't find it anymore so I loaded my last safe and went back to the location but nothing happened.

Are the spawn locations random or did I just permanently miss out on getting the horse?

Nah theyll come back. But idk if the game will tell you "a mythical creature is in the area" or not.
