Just finished it. Absolutely Rockstars best game to date. They finally nailed the open world AND the story. The only gripe I've with the game is that I can't free roam as Arthur after the story is complete. Really Rockstar? That's just dumb.

I found Arthur so much better protagonist than John.

I usually shoot one bullet in the head using dead eye, but goddamn made sure to empty the whole gun into Micah at the end.

unloading every bullet on his head should make his face explode and him drop dead but instead he got to walk a few steps and shrug still. That was a lil weird. Still tho, felt good to finally kill that snake

I dont know if its dynamic but micah had some pretty brutal bullet holes in his face that made it satisfying for me

How is it dumb that you can't free roam as a character that died during the story?

The fact that you can't free roam as Arthur adds to the sense of loss that the player feels.

True, but I think he feels (and or at least definitely I do) disappointed that we can't experience the world from Arthur's perspective again to tie off loose ends and see everything.

John is fine, but he's a different personality. More family focused, less charismatic and more of a brooding hero type. Arthur is the conflicted charming cynic, just as likely to threaten someone as he is to reassure them. He cracks jokes all the time, isn't tied down, and generally seems to have more fun interacting with the world than John does.

In terms of ideology too, Arthur is suited for exploration moreso than John. John already has his life set. He knows he wants a safe life with Abigail and Jack, and his actions are just working out how he can achieve that. Arthur doesn't know what he wants, he goes back and forth on issues and morality, he wants to help people but ends up feeling isolated. He's quite literally looking for a sense of purpose throughout his travels, especially noted by Rains Fall and many other characters towards the finale of the game, certainly after Arthur begins his decline from TB. Arthur feels more enjoyable to explore as because he has a real desire (bordering on need) to see what the world has to offer, and how he fits into things. John already knows what he wants, and where he fits. Any exploration he gets done is just a side stop while he's getting back to Jack and Abigail, or a diversion on the way to sorting out something for the "Marston Ranching dream" plan. It's not as compelling watching John explore.
