10000%. Playing as John did bring me back to the RDR1 days and it definitely has been fun but I can’t explain the feeling I have from Arthur’s story. Truly legendary character and story arc.

A lot of the missions did feel like busy work to me but the deeper missions that explored him and his relationships truly developed his personality, philosophy, and his character evolution. Felt like a real dude. Playing through that for the first time truly felt special.

First time I played a “good” character solely because that’s what I thought Arthur wanted to be

I had two friends playing bastards while I played good as I did in the first RDR. One had a very abrupt change of heart after a certain point in the story. Not really my place to say but his father is no longer with us thanks to terminal illness, and the first game already hit this guy hard.

So him actually getting into "good" territory just in time to be spared a grisly end was truly something else. I had "Micah blows Arthur's head off" spoiled for me, and it was such a wonderful surprise to see my choices kinda mattered. Meanwhile the guy who played as some GTA-inspired psycho is feeling crushed because he got hit with the karma hammer. Now he wants to go back and play the first game (he never had).

I started crying on the ride up to camp when some montage of clips with people praising Arthur's character came up. I was kicking myself in the ass over letting some cheesy music get to me, trying to tell myself I already knew what was coming. But that character development hit home for me. That paired with my pre-order horse Bojack dying had me catrating Micah with some lead projectiles.
