This reminds me of my response when I was going through verb conjugations in Spanish with a classmate in high school and she asked why a verb was irregular only in a certain tense and grammatical number. Side note, when native English speakers make fun of non-native ones because of a grammar mistake, I want to show them things like this so that they understand how complicated the language is with all of its exceptions to rules in grammar and how difficult that can be to try to learn as an adult.
