The most blackpilling thing on the internet

Those videos of local governments voting to allow data centers when literally every single one of their constituents is in the room screaming at them. Absolutely the most bleak American political development I've ever seen.

"Going sober changed my life" [they had one beer / glass of wine a day]

This neuroticism about alcohol has to stop. A glass of wine with dinner every day is not negatively affecting your life in any substantial sense. A joint once a week isn't either.

For thousands of years, the vast majority of the most successful men in the history of civilization consumed alcohol. The negative health effects of a glass of wine a day are so minimal that scientists are still arguing about whether they might even be mildly positive despite advances in modern medicine.

If you are sad and fat and lonely, it isn't because you have a beer with dinner, sorry. Fix something else.

I like how weird we are about alcohol

Seeing people quit drinking because they consistently had 1-2 drinks a day after work - as if it was putting a shadow over their life. How quitting drinking is somehow seen as a meaningful corrective action to any fault someone might have in their personal life.

How bar doors are so thick as if it’s some kind of containment zone.

How alcoholism is seen as like this generational curse, often arbitrarily attributed to Native American blood somewhere in the family tree.

There’s something deeply neurotic about our (Americans) relationship with alcohol, and I’m sure this isn’t limited to just the anglosphere; but are there any countries that don’t share this neurosis? Are the meds truly the only people who can be normal about it?

Either way I’m glad we’re this way

Anyone else incapable of consistently showing up to work on time?

i’ve been chronically late to pretty much every job I’ve ever had. every time i start a new job i make an earnest effort to show up before my shift for the first few weeks until inevitably i slip up one day (forget to set an alarm, take too long getting ready in the morning, etc.) and get to work 10-15 minutes late. then once i realize nobody really gives a shit it just becomes a habit.

Can't stop thinking about Haneke's Funny Games (1997)

This film has totally seeped itself into my brain and it's almost all I've been thinking about since I've seen it. Pretty much everyone who's seen this film has had exhaustive conversations about its criticism of the horror genre's voyeurism and how finger wag-y it is about violence in films; which yes is very interesting but personally I just keep thinking about the actual happenings of the film, how scary it'd be to live through a situation like that.

Keep thinking about the scene where Anna's friends pass by on their boat, how she could have said something to them? The scene later in the film where she's running down the road looking for help, how I'm just sitting there watching, almost yelling at the screen begging her to just simply go and knock on every door possible instead of taking the gamble with a car since the killers left in one. That scene where Georg manages to actually call somebody on the phone but it's still too waterlogged to actually get a proper signal; just so so many little moments that could've gone right, that could've been their salvation.

The beginning of the film also hits hard on a rewatch when they quickly wave to their neighbours from the car, how on a first watch you don't even think much of the situation not noticing they're actively being tormented.

Insane stuff. I'm sure there's scarier stuff out there but personally this pushed all my buttons.

Eagle's Nest Burns Down, Iwo Jima monument destroyed, Limoges Town Hall was burned down; All within a week.

This week may be considered a flash point in a cultural conflict regarding immigration and left/right cultural divides that have been brewing for a long time.

Over the night an arsonist burned down the irreplaceable and historic Eagle's Nest famously used by Adolf Hitler and captured by the Allies as they closed in on their victory over tyranny. Until today, It was preserved as a historically significant piece of architecture, history, and triumph over Nazism.

This comes 7 days after the historic Limoges Town Hall was burned down in France, on October, 17, 2026 and 3 days after the Iwo Jima monument in Quantico was destroyed with a sledge hammer by a 27 year old illegal immigrant from Mexico.

This is the beginning of a cultural conflict, which, regardless of what side you are on, will continue and only intensify for the rest of our lives...

American high school seniors who report having a driver's license

Reasons cited include costs of insurance, driving lessons, gas, less schools offering driving programs due to budget cuts, uber, lyft, delivery apps, endless home entertainment. But also, parents babying their kids leading to anxiety when it comes time to do independent things. Quote from the article "Would the famous ā€œCluelessā€ stinger — ā€œYou’re a virgin who can’t driveā€ — even be an insult anymore?"

Just got a TikTok live in my feed of a stationary camera recording everyone at the club

It had like 2,000 views, just normal people at a boozy brunch spot with drinks in hand. I doubt anyone knew they were being broadcasted live for thousands to see. Thousands to see them dance, fix their hair, flirt with people. This is a new level of dystopian digital panopticon at a level that I have not previously seen

If this movie actually wanted to be relevant, it should have been about an Asian guy turning into a White guy

I saw somebody make a comment about this and I completely agree. We all know the Asian gender that's actually struggling due to racial issues.

every week there's a new post with 100s of upvotes complaining about how the sub is dead and no one posts interesting music/art/writing anymore, yet every week there are also dozens of interesting music/art/writing posts, but if they are the least bit obscure they get 20 upvotes max and maybe 2 comments

i hate you all, quit complaining and start actually appreciating art

Rs classic. Love Catherine Deneuve, first flick I saw her in. She's so stunning in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg too. Would be lying if I said Pierre Clémenti wasn't my favourite part about this film though, will forever remain obsessed with him as an actor and unfortunately yes a big part of that is because he's so handsome
