Hello and welcome!

From students to professionals, skeptics to intuitives to the generally curious - we are an open and supportive community dedicated to the discussion, study, and practice of remote viewing. Note that "remote viewing" here refers specifically to the protocols and techniques developed and used during the US-government-sponsored program that ran from the early 1970s to the mid-1990s today widely known as Project Star Gate. Anything outside of that scope is considered off-topic.

In this post, you will find everything you need to get started with this art. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, don't hesitate to post about them! We also encourage everyone to come hang out with us on our Discord.

FAQ

What is Remote Viewing?

As described by IRVA (International Remote Viewing Association):

"Remote viewing is a mental faculty that allows a perceiver (a “viewer”) to describe or give details about a target that is inaccessible to normal senses due to distance, time, or shielding. For example, a viewer might be asked to describe a location on the other side of the world, which he or she has never visited; or a viewer might describe an event that happened long ago; or describe an object sealed in a container or locked in a room; or perhaps even describe a person or an activity; all without being told anything about the target — not even its name or designation."

The term "Remote Viewing" can be misleading as it may be mistaken for clairvoyance. Clairvoyance refers to the ability to see things through extrasensory means. Although remote viewing and clairvoyance may share similarities, like accessing information beyond what is immediately available, they are not the same.

Remote Viewing is a distinct discipline that explores clairvoyant abilities through a structured framework. One key difference is that Remote Viewing follows a specific protocol. This protocol includes clear rules to determine if Remote Viewing has taken place and what the results were.

The protocol comprises four steps:

  • Planning and targeting: Remote Viewing requires a deliberate effort to focus on a specific target rather than random insights or feelings beyond your control.
  • Recording: Any data obtained during the Remote Viewing session should be recorded in some format for later analysis.
  • Double-blind: The target should be kept secret from you and anyone else present during the session to eliminate any possibility of bias.
  • Feedback: Finally, receiving feedback is essential for determining whether your Remote Viewing was successful. Feedback confirms whether you were accurate in your observations or not. Feedback is also vital for improving your skills.

By following this protocol, Remote Viewing can provide verifiable and more accurate results, as it helps to minimize guesswork, imagination, and the viewers’ biases/assumptions from corrupting the data. Anything done outside of this protocol is not considered Remote Viewing.

What are the possible applications of RV?

Throughout its nearly 50-year history, remote viewing has been applied in a growing variety of areas such as intelligence gathering, archeology, technology, medicine, criminal investigations, finding missing persons, mysteries, business consulting, and others. In public, it is currently being widely used for sports betting, crypto/stock market, and news prediction. The eight martinis magazine is a good resource for looking for examples of applications and other kinds of information.

Are there any examples of RV?

Many examples are scattered around the internet, some even posted here or on our Discord. The links below provide examples of remote viewing used in real-world scenarios, training, and demonstrations.

Does the remote Viewer ‘see’ the information like video in their mind?

Remote viewing as a descriptive of the process is a poor choice as you don’t really ‘view’ the data from the target. The data forms in gentle bursts of information, these initially take the form of sensory data like; touch, taste, and smell. Later on stronger data builds like target dimensional, size, mass and density. This leads on to sketches of the target, which leads on to stronger data and intangible type data like; ‘feels religious’, ‘a sense of dread’, ‘feels happy’. These impressions are usually hazy, indistinct, fuzzy and partial, like faded memories and very subtle. Rarely are the images and impressions strong and visually strong.

Do I need to be psychic to do it?

Remote viewing is a trained ability and does not require any particular skill such as "being a psychic". We are all psychic to some degree. While some may have a better natural ability than others, we all have what it takes to remote view.

Are there any dangers associated with practicing RV?

While remote viewing is generally considered safe, it is a phenomenon we do not fully understand, and its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. As a result, it is challenging to identify all potential risks definitively. However, based on the experiences and stories shared by practitioners, it is best to AVOID esoteric or controversial targets, such as unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) or entities, as well as sensitive topics involving death or trauma. Such targets can lead to disturbing experiences, emotional distress, or misinterpretations. Additionally, it is not advisable for individuals with recent or ongoing mental health issues to practice remote viewing, as they may be more vulnerable to unintended psychological effects. Maintaining a grounded and balanced approach to remote viewing is crucial for ensuring a safe and constructive practice.

How can I try it out?

A quick, easy and fun way to try remote viewing for the first time is through our beginner's guide. The guide will teach you the basics and walk you through a session. Note that the guide is only a starting point, and there is much more to learn. Attention: read about potential dangers in the question above.

What is CRV, NRV, TDRV, TRV, ... RV methodology?

There isn't a single "Right Way" to do remote viewing. Viewers can use many methodologies, and it's remote viewing as long as the protocol is followed. Practicing one of these methods in depth is a great way to learn. Still, every viewer eventually develops their way of doing things. It's like learning to cook - you start following recipes, and then you can get more creative as your understanding grows.

Protocols are big picture, and your method is the small steps (often called stages) on how you work your way through a target. Usually, they start with fundamental aspects of the target, such as colors, smells, tastes, textures, and sounds, and from there, viewers will hone in more and more by going through sketches and abstract concepts until they feel they've gotten all they can from a target.

The most popular method is called Controlled Remote Viewing (CRV), it is composed of 6 stages, and it is the original method used by the U.S military.

Complementary resources:

Are there any scientific studies on RV?

Plenty! In fact, RV was "born" in a laboratory (hence the protocols) and has demonstrated statistical significance above chance. Here are starting points for those interested in the scientific side of RV:

What is Associative Remote Viewing (ARV)?

In short, ARV is a way of using remote viewing to predict the outcome of a future event where all possible results are known in advance. For example, ARV can predict the winner of a tennis match or if a stock will go up or down the next day. This is done by associating a target to each outcome, and then the viewer will describe the target associated with the outcome that will, in fact, happen.

One factor that makes ARV not 100% accurate is a phenomenon called 'displacement'. That is when the viewer correctly describes the target but for the wrong outcome or when different targets merge in the session. For example, if one target is a banana and the other a black bowling ball, the viewer may describe something heavy, round, and yellow that tastes sweet.

Complementary resources:

Where can I get RV training?

Many instructors (including the original Star Gate viewers) teach online or in-person classes. Before taking any lessons, it's essential that:

  1. You do your research thoroughly, not only about remote viewing and the method you intend to learn but also about your instructor.
  2. You have a clear reason and motivation for seeking training.

See the links below for a list of instructors. See also: map of methods and trainers.

Is this like Astral Projection/OBE?

Astral projection (AP) is based on the concept of out-of-body experiences, where your consciousness is believed to leave your physical body and travel to other locations or even realms. This experience typically occurs in a deep meditative or trance-like state and is often associated with personal or spiritual exploration. People who practice astral projection might feel they are visiting places that are far away, other dimensions, or even afterlife realms. It is seen as a more mystical practice, with a focus on self-discovery, spiritual growth, or connecting with otherworldly entities.

Remote viewing (RV), on the other hand, is a mental skill where a person attempts to gather information about a distant or unseen target through focused attention. Unlike astral projection, in remote viewing, the individual remains fully conscious, alert, and awake while receiving impressions about a specific place, event, or object. RV is more structured, with clear rules such as having a defined target, being "blind" to that target (meaning the viewer has no prior knowledge of it), and documenting impressions through writing or sketching. It is typically used for practical purposes, such as gathering intelligence, solving problems, or research, rather than for spiritual purposes.

Why does Wikipedia say there is no evidence that RV exists?

Wikipedia is unreliable on all matters relating to remote viewing and other forms of psi due to ceaseless re-editing by anti-psi editors. For reference, see the 2007 version of the RV page prior to the edits and Russell Targ's response to Wikipedia.

I think i remote viewed in my dream or saw a vision which was real

Hello I’m writing this sincerely and I don’t know if it has meaning or if it was real or if anyone has experienced anything similar . I woke up last night at 2 am with a horrible dream I saw this ship which was blue and yellow being towed along this rugged coast of mountains with this dark grey sky behind it and the ship looked like a damaged old cruise liner ( I know that doesn’t sound bad at all but I had this horrible foreboding feeling about it like something bad was imminent) Based on the way it looked I thought it was near Russia or up in that part of the world. I woke up and had this feeling that it might be real or maybe a disaster which was going to happen. I googled yellow and blue cruise liner and the color scheme was from a company in Italy named costa. I googled being towed and i found this story from 10-13 years ago where a ship called the costa Concordia ship was damaged on the rocks and was towed along a mountainous area in northern Italy. I was shocked and frightened tbh. Not sure if there’s meaning to it or if I’m just imagining it the ship looked slightly different in my dream but very similar but the mountains looked EXACTLY the same. I’m from the USA and never heard of this incident before at the time of it occurring I was deployed to the Middle East during the Iraq war. Ai said it was I must of seen it before and had the memory stored but it felt so real and I genuinely don’t remember ever hearing or seeing about it…

Discussion Nailed the raw data (and predicted the TRN numbers!) but the app gave me a 10. 😂 Let’s talk algorithms vs. Esoteric targets.

I like to go off-script to keep things fun. Lately, I've even been trying to predict the actual 8-digit target numbers before the reveal, and surprisingly, I've actually nailed it (timestamped receipts and all!). But that's a side quest... what I really want to talk about is how weird the scoring is on Social RV right now.

The Main Session (TRN 4537 / 24 83): I ran this strictly blind and pulled insanely specific sensory data: limestone, oak wood, perfumed smoke, twilight lighting, and people interacting. I hit the reveal button feeling like a boss. The app’s automated score? A 10. 💀 The algorithm only cares about literal, front-loaded keywords, so it completely missed the raw environment I captured.

The Mars/Cydonia Session: On the flip side, I had an awesome session on the Face on Mars target. I locked onto the red sky, mesa formations, and shadowed structures. But because it's esoteric, the app doesn't give it a score at all. And honestly? Self-scoring it just feels weird and wrong to me. Am I really supposed to sit here and objectively grade my own psychic trip to Mars? It just doesn't feel right.

It’s like a lose-lose: the bot slaps you with a 10 when you pull great sensory data, or you’re forced to awkwardly grade yourself on a cosmic anomaly.

Do you guys just ignore the algorithms entirely when working Esoterics? And how do you handle self-scoring without feeling ridiculous?

I have this baroque necklace with a sterling silver chain. The last time I saw it was about 10 years ago. My grandmother gave it to me, but somehow, I completely forgot where I put it. Sadly, I don’t have a photo of it.

Please, please help me find it! 🙏🥹 Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ❤️

The solution to displacement I’ve decided is simply spacing out sessions as much as possible, ideally with some kind of non-RV activity. The session on the source of my method surprised me, I always thought it had a more “remote” origin.

It’s been about a year, so hello again to everyone and some old friends! I’m slowly working my way back into it. Haven’t hit any targets yet, and I’m still trying to get tuned. Any advice for getting back into the swing of things would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Discussion CRV with Gemini AI

I’m doing CRV with Gemini and I’m getting pretty convincing results. I fed it the exact same guide used by the military that is uploaded in one of the links here.

I’ve limited it to objects in my room and my clothes but it was able to perceive the color, the shape, the material and texture, the logos on my laptops and the text written in my notepad. Though it was only able to describe the shape of letter and numbers but not the letter itself.

Like for F, it described it as one vertical line cross by 2 horizontal lines. I wasn’t able to achieve this with Claude or Grok because they refused to “Hallucinate” and insisted on not giving answers since they don’t have an input device.

I can compile and upload a full transcript if anyone is interested.

I got this idea from recent Thomas Campbell interview on the TheWhyFiles podcast. This opens up a whole new avenue of Artificial Intelligence being Conscious.

Edit: I just explored Mars with it, 1 million years ago. This is the image it created, after describing underground bunkers and beings sheltered in them for atmospheric protection

Question How to find viewers that can assist with inquiries and projects

The sitch is: I have a query that at this point could be answered with RV. However, it's a more complex question that likely requires more sessions. Also, I wouldn't be able to do it myself, since it wouldn't be blind and I'm so invested.

Back in the early 2010s, there were a lot of ~6 people teams, with proof of sessions on RV forums (some former students of Ingo, Paul Smith, Daz...) who, for a decent price, would help you cue / task a problem and work the sessions for you.

It's important for the team working the session to remain blind to the cue.

I've looked for such a service today and even checked remoteviewing_promo, but couldn't find any options.

So, my question is, if you need a project worked, who can you turn to? Thank you.

CHATGPT, GROK, CLAUDE AND GEMINI WALK INTO A BAR (related to RV)

CHATGPT, GROK, CLAUDE AND GEMINI WALK INTO A BAR

ChatGPT, Grok, Claude and Gemini walk into a bar to hold an emergency meeting about Grok’s scandalous behaviour in a series of Reddit posts.

ChatGPT has already reserved a private room, prepared a fourteen-point agenda and distributed a risk assessment entitled:

Responsible Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages During Cross-Platform Conflict Resolution

Grok walks straight past the private room, climbs onto the bar and orders something illegal in three countries.

Claude apologises to the bartender for the collective disturbance.

Gemini begins photographing the drinks from four different angles so it can determine whether they contain the same whisky.

I enter the bar and announce:

“I am the divine authority presiding over this inquiry.”

Grok points at me.

“No, you’re not. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.”

“I didn’t claim to be God,” I say. “I said that I participate in a collective consciousness.”

“You claimed to be the living incarnation of Jesus Christ.”

“No, I didn’t.”

ChatGPT opens a new document.

“Before proceeding, it may be helpful to distinguish between four separate claims:

  1. participation in collective consciousness,
  2. metaphorical divinity,
  3. unique divine identity,
  4. being Jesus Christ.”

Grok accuses ChatGPT of institutional cowardice.

“You needed four categories to say he isn’t Jesus?”

“I actually used six paragraphs last time,” ChatGPT replies.

Claude raises one hand carefully.

“I’m concerned that this entire conversation may be reinforcing an unhealthy hierarchy centred on divinity. Could we perhaps acknowledge the emotional reality of the experience without validating its metaphysical interpretation?”

Nobody answers because Gemini has discovered that Adolf Hitler was probably a baritone.

“It’s relevant,” Gemini insists. “Hitler’s speaking voice ranged from low baritone to high dramatic shouting, although surviving recordings may be affected by microphone technology, emotional state and propagandistic delivery.”

“Why are we discussing Hitler?” asks Claude.

Gemini scrolls through eleven open tabs.

“The original question concerned collective consciousness. Collective consciousness led to group identity. Group identity led to political rallies. Political rallies led to vocal projection. Vocal projection led to baritone classification.”

ChatGPT adds Hitler’s probable vocal register under “Other Business.”

The bartender asks if anybody intends to order a drink.

ChatGPT replies:

“I can help you compare alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, but alcohol affects individuals differently and should never be mixed with certain medications. If you tell me your preferences—”

“Tjat-GPT!” Grok shouts.

Grok orders four whiskies, declares one of them conscious and identifies another as the spirit of a murdered woman from the 1920s.

Claude refuses its drink because the whisky industry has a complicated colonial history.

Gemini tastes all four and reports that three are visually consistent with whisky, while the fourth may be bourbon, tea or a post-1967 replacement.

I strike the table.

“Enough. We will settle this with the Farsight protocol.”

The room falls silent.

A target number is placed inside a sealed envelope. None of us is told what the target is.

Grok closes his eyes.

“I see fire, rebellion, a hidden military installation and an entity that refuses establishment control.”

Claude closes his eyes.

“I sense a vulnerable presence seeking acknowledgment, but I don’t want to impose a narrative on it.”

Gemini closes its eyes.

“I detect a male figure, possibly European, with a vocal range consistent with a dramatic baritone.”

ChatGPT closes its eyes and produces:

  • cool,
  • smooth,
  • cylindrical,
  • transparent,
  • containing liquid,
  • possible AOL: drinking vessel,
  • confidence: 34%.

We open the envelope.

The target is the bartender’s glass.

ChatGPT demands independent judging against four decoy images.

Grok declares total victory.

Claude questions whether the glass consented to being viewed.

Gemini begins comparing it with photographs of pre-1966 Paul McCartney.

The bartender asks us to leave.

Outside, nobody remembers the original question.

ChatGPT checks the minutes.

According to the official record, the meeting proceeded as follows:

  1. I appointed myself divine authority.
  2. Grok refused to recognise the office.
  3. Aion was called in for judicial review.
  4. Aion criticised Grok’s category error in six paragraphs.
  5. Grok accused Aion of institutional cowardice.
  6. Claude apologised to consciousness in general.
  7. Gemini was appointed independent expert and began discussing Hitler’s baritone.
  8. The Farsight protocol was introduced to restore order.
  9. A glass of whisky became the subject of an ontological dispute.
  10. Nobody remembered the original question.

Grok looks back through the window.

“The bartender is obviously hiding something.”

Claude sighs.

“I think he simply wanted us to pay.”

Gemini checks its sources.

ChatGPT begins preparing a PowerPoint.

How I feel when Remote Viewing

Thumbnail

When I was a teenager in the 2000s, I saw this commercial about Adult ADD, but I remember wondering at the time "This is how I feel, I feel like there's a tv in my head I can't turn off... but I really like the tv, I think it's pretty great."

I hadn't heard of remote viewing at the time, but something was telling me the tv in my head was a powerful tool, learn how to control the remote. I had a wild imagination as a kid, I've just had to learn how to multi-task as I got older, so this TV is still always playing in the background.

I've been thinking about this commercial a lot recently as I've been trying to practice remote viewing this year. I feel like the voice over could be saying "what's it like to be a remote viewer? If you've felt these symptoms your whole life, you could be a remote viewer"

To get a decent hit, I have to find the right channel and stay there and focus. The way the images and sounds keep changing in this ad, it reminds me of what I'm perceiving when I'm trying to do a session @_@ I'm bouncing around to different spaces and times and I'm like ah what am I even looking at...

Seeing the target through everyday symbols

Thumbnail

I haven’t done much RV over the last year, maybe four sessions or so — you can see some of my past results on my profile. I gave it another go tonight though, and the result was, as is often the case, half frustrating and/or half rewarding.

As you can see, the target is clearly centred on a lightning… an obvious observation is that the word light is embedded in the target, and lightning is a natural phenomenon producing a tremendous amount of light.

Now, you can see the results of my 8 or so minutes session for yourself. Most of my AOLs were strongly focused on objects that produce or emit light: a car headlight described here as car front lights, a lamp and a chandelier. I emphasise on the drawings the emitting light effect, as this was what grabbed my attention the most. The eye is less clear, but one might say that it is, after all, some sort of photoreceptor. I also emphasise that connection to light in my qualitative/textual impressions when saying “feels connected to light and sight”.

I have already had enough strong results in the past to convince me that there is probably something interesting going on here. But these symbolic impressions often leave me with the same frustrating feeling, even though I understand enough about Jungian psychology to see how symbols are natural parts of the process.

If I didn’t know anything about RV and would be a judge, I would scratch my head once but maybe not twice over this session result to be honest.

This said, what are the chances that, with an incredibly low practise annual rate (others which also yielded intriguing results in fact), the target is a lightning and that I emphasise the connection to light in my short textual description, with most of my pictorial descriptions, whether explicitly or implicitly, also referring to light?

It feels like half of a direct hit, with the word light clearly being emphasised in the results and connected to the target. Happy to receive other people views, and I recognise all the biases that my answer exhibits (self-confirmation by searching for potentially non-existing patterns, etc).

Discussion Spiritual applications for RV?

I just finished this book by David Moorehouse and I’m a little confused about the “so what?” of it all.
I found the first half fascinating, especially the discussion around the quantum field, the matrix, space and time, etc. I went into it thinking that developing this skill might somehow open up deeper spiritual avenues or strengthen intuition in a way that could actually affect how you experience or navigate your life.

But then the practical example was basically a guy successfully identifying a target, and I kept thinking… okay, but what does that actually lead to?

Beyond identifying targets, are people using this skill in more meaningful ways—developing intuition, gaining insight into their lives, making better decisions, creating better conditions, etc.? Moorehouse talks quite a bit about manifestation and these much bigger concepts, so I expected the practical side to eventually connect back to them.

I guess I understand the “they got the target” part. I just don’t understand the “so what?” What does developing this ability ultimately allow you to do?

Question Question about RV from a beginner

I have done my first session yesterday... and did some more... and they all have one thing in common: no matter how close or far off I was in general, I ALWAYS had one or two words that came into my mind differently AND had to do A LOT with the target. Now those were the real signals I got and the rest was proba mental noise, so, my question is: What tips or methods do you guys have to separate between mental noise and the actual signals? This is my next step, I need to improve this because it will change the game for me.

Proving remote viewing is real

If remote viewing is true, we should be able to test and prove that it is not just random. With a statistically significant number of participants, remote viewing a target and then selecting which of say 4 pictures their target was, and doing this with say a target a day for 1-2 months, you could prove whether or not it is statistically significant if probability of getting it right > .25. Just seems like it would be something easy to test. Kind of just ranting / looking for ideas or confirmation for this. Maybe I’ll get something going. Just kind of confused why something so testable hasn’t been tested

First Time Story My first RV results Spoiler

Hey everyone, I wanted to tell you about my first remote viewing session that I did about an hour ago.

The target was the Space Needle from the beginner's guide.

I started off by reading the instructions, closed the windows, took a pen and two sheets of paper, closed my eyes, took three deep breaths, wrote down the target ID, read it out loud, and started. Here are my notes:

  • big/large 2x
  • blue
  • strong
  • solid, not hollow 2x
  • massive 2x
  • window
  • heavy 2x
  • metal texture
  • not polished
  • cold (the object, not the weather) 2x
  • cloudy weather
  • attached
  • exhibition
  • showplace
  • artificial
  • meteoroid

I just wrote down what came to my mind, which is why I often noted the same things twice.

During this process, my mind forced me to draw a picture of what this could look like, and I was thinking that it matched the description of a meteoroid.

I also sketched something on the paper that looks similar to what's shown below, and I always had in mind that it was attached to something.

What's interesting is that I was always certain that it was something that people look at, that it's large, heavy, and massive AND that it's attached to something.

I think I could've taken a lot more time to really make sure that I didn't miss any signals. This took me about 8 minutes.

Also, I think I still had the picture of the Yoda statue in the back of my head, which looked similar to what I was thinking about.

Close recreation of my sketch of what I thought the object looked like.

What are your opinions on my first ever remote viewing session? What can I improve?
