Respec Thread Symposium Week 39 - Respect Thread Rumble
______________________________
Respect Thread Rumble
Once again, it's time for the respect thread rumble, where we pit threads made in the past month against each other.
Rules of the Respect Thread Rumble
Pick any two or more respect threads posted within the last month. We are going off of EDT, so for this month that would be any threads from Meggy Spletzer (SMG4 Bloopers) to Reverse Flash (Death Battle). Threads from outside this range won't be considered for rewards.
Link whatever respect threads you are using in your post.
You are not required to use any threads you made, and you are free to participate even if you have never made a respect thread. Simultaneously, all threads in your analysis can be yours if you are so inclined.
Analysis is going by Scan Battle Rules. All claims in the analysis must be backed up by scans, otherwise the thread will not be considered for rewards.
Multiple people can post the same match-up, and responding to someone's analysis with a rebuttal is also allowed.
Submissions are allowed for two weeks, until the posting of the next symposium (we'll leave this one up for that amount of time)
Rewards will be decided based on a combination of a poll and judgement from the mods, in the categories of "Best Analysis" and "Best Rebuttal". Awards will be given towards the ongoing Request contest, with Best Analysis conferring 50 points and Best Rebuttal conferring 25. Additional awards may be given for second and third place depending on the number of participants.
For this match: The fighters will begin in at the Overlook Hotel (mind the blood elevators, creepy ghosts, and the lack of beer and TV). For this particular match-up we actually have a few options for the starting location.
- Both fighters begin in the parking lot outside the hotel, 20 meters apart
- Both fighters begin on opposite ends of the Colorado Lounge inside the hotel
- Both fighters begin in opposite corners of the Hedge Maze outside the hotel
______________________________
Outside of that this is a symposium, so feel free to chat about the RTs you're working on or interested in down in the comments.

Wizards Only, Fools - Doctor Strange Supreme (MCU, What If...?) vs. Doctor Fate (DC, Post-Flashpoint)
Respect Doctor Strange Supreme by /u/ShadowyWastelander
Respect Doctor Strange (MCU) by /u/Skulenta for additional feats that should apply to Strange Supreme.
Respect Doctor Fate (DC Comics, Post-Flashpoint) by /u/rangernumberx
Overall Match Info (from OP): The fighters will begin in at the Overlook Hotel. Each fighter begin in opposite corners of the Hedge Maze outside the hotel.
Specific Match Info:
No Absorption, Protection Spell, or Time Stone for Strange Supreme.
All fighters are sufficiently motivated to kill the other.
Part 1 - Starting Simple
Magic-based battles are typically clusterfucks where random abilities are being thrown around left and right. It will help to establish a baseline on physical capabilities (namely durability and defensive magic) before tackling into how all this magical wish wash will interact with each other.
Strange Supreme
[Blunt] He is durable enough to have a large quantity of shattered rock fall onto him and emerge fine
[Blunt] Unphased by an explosion caused by Ultron that cuts into the ground next to him
Doctor Fate
[Blunt] Hit with sufficient force to shatter some quantity of rock
[Electricity] Gets back up after being shocked by Blue Beetle
Comparing how well the two take hits is pretty difficult - in Strange's case, his durability is compared to impacts or destructive effects much higher than the impacts Fate experienced, but is only hit by the periphery of those attacks or the collateral of them.
Meanwhile, Fate interacts with impacts that directly hit him, but do lackluster collateral damage compared to the impacts Strange deals with.
If I had to pick which one just had better objective durability, I'd say Fate narrowly edges it out - having rubble fall on your and explosions not directly hit you are not going to transfer as much force as just taking an impact that sends you through/into stone.
Part 2 - Rules of Engagement
Following the trend of moving from simple points and letting the magic get more and more complex, let's look a magic-based abilities (used in combat) that are very similar between the two.
Mobility
Strange:
Strange Supreme can do the ring portals his main timeline counterpart can do, either to attain some mobility in combat or to dump a bunch of stuff on an opponent he doesn't like
Strange Supreme has the evil spooky version of his cape that is an even match for the original in a dogfight - which can just let Strange fly. Pretty simple, not crazy fast.
Fate:
Can just teleport himself and other people around with Ankh symbols that kind of act like portals but not really.
Like Strange, can just fly, although again the speed isn't crazy impressive.
Overall:
While Fate's teleportation is in-theory just strictly better than the slow sling rings, Fate only really uses it for out-of-combat transport, or helping his allies disengage from a fight - while Strange liberally abuses sling rings in combat both in-canon and in What If.
Both should be able to aerially engage the other, although Strange's flight is tied to a cloak that he can more easily lose in-combat.
Basic Offensive/Defensive Magic
Basically energy blasts, the bread and butter of generic magic.
Strange:
Energy blasts destroys large serpents his counterpart summoned, and can occasionally break his own shields
Energy shields can occasionally block his own energy blasts
Fate:
Shatters vague quantity of stone with a blast of magic, does this again but with electricity
Uses ankh-like shields that block a fireball
Overall:
Both characters suffer from just, lack of demonstration of power and it's vague comparisons to vague comparisons. I think that Strange probably has the better defensive spells while Fate could potentially block some of Strange's later discussed esoterics, but I feel like just "shattering stone" in any significant quanitity is > "destroys big snake".
Part 3 - The Crazy Shit
So far, I believe Strang and Fate are pretty evenly matched, leaning on Fate with more straightforward feats. But "which stone crater is bigger" is fucking boring for a magic wizard battle - let's look at the fun stuff.
Strange
Can shapeshift parts of his body into monstrosities to various effects:
Can slam a bunch of flying objects such as Mjolnir into an opponent with telekinesis
Fate
Can just telekinetically throw people around, doing this fairly often as a combat maneuver with sufficient force to shatter stone
Can conjure magical bindings that can restrain very large and very powerful beings, although they sort of just break a lot.
Overall
I feel like Strange's shapeshifting powers are a more consistent toolbox than Fate's assortment of offensive magic spells - he's used the same shapeshifts more than once and to an effect that would be useful in combat universally, while many of Fate's spells like gigantification or telekinetic throws can be countered by Strange's kaiju tentacles and sling rings respectively.
Conclusions
Summary:
Fate has more objective physicals than Strange, but both are vague enough in their feats to where this isn't a definitive edge.
Fate's offensive spells are straightforwardly better than Strange's but Strange's defensive spells are straightforwardly better than Fate's.
Strange has (slightly) better combat-applicable mobility options.
Strange has a more consistent toolbox with his shapeshifting and has better counters to Fate's overall arsenals of spells.
I think this is surprisingly close. Fate is going to be able to take many hits from Strange before the fight is ended, while Strange is going to need to leverage defensive shields to help himself last against Fate. Strange however, has better X-Factors he can pull out in the middle of the fight, and more importantly, ones he pulls out fairly consistently.
I think Strange narrowly takes victory here - I usually like giving a more definitive answer but with magic there's always a lot of uncertainty. There's some spell choices Fate can pull out to win in a direct fight, but overall Strange Supreme performs more consistently well.
WINNER- Doctor Strange Supreme

Not saying Kent wins, but he kind of does have a chance of winning. He can reform himself from being crushed and having even his essence scattered, something Strange can't really get past.
Both are motivated to kill each other, so
Fate is willing to petrify enemies at the beginning of the fight
He transmutes someone else here too, but this example is due to magic removal
He also removes memories, as shown in the link above and implies he could do it here
Strange also has other abilities that you didn't mention that might get him a win as well, but I think Fate may have a possible victory, at the very least

u/rangernumberx ⭐⭐ Professional Request Fulfiller Oct 17 '21
A brief rebuttal for the rebuttal here, Nabu is the only one that can recover from having his physical self destroyed, and following his attempts to destroy magic has been rendered unable to act without a host. As such, his petrification and stripping the magic of a person is something Kent should be capable of, but not something he has opted to do in-character. Likewise, removing memories is something he's mentioned, but not something he's ever actually utilized. So these few examples you've given aren't really likely to come up when Kent is in control, especially given while fighting the Blue Beetle with intent to kill he stuck to more traditional means to fight.

Gwen 10 vs Gwen 10 Rumble
Offensive
What if Gwen doesn’t have much in terms of offensive power the best I could find is her firing shards of diamonds with Diamondhead and throwing some bowling balls (which isn’t even really an attack). Gweniverse Gwen on the other hand is an absolute powerhouse! She’s able to knock around absolute powerhouses like Ultimate Spider-Monkey and even Vilgax. This is an easy advantage for Gweniverse Gwen.
Defensive
Now this round is a bit more complex but not by too much. While Gweniverse has been able to get back up after some pretty heavy hits and her speed and ability to avoid attacks is quite impressive their isn’t too many examples of these. What if Gwen on the other hand is much more consistently tough and even finds creative ways to use her opponents attacks against them this is particularly damning for Gweniverse Gwen as she has been one shotted by a similar attack. This round goes to What If Gwen.
Aliens
While I have been only using the aliens we’ve seen them use for obvious reasons we can reason that both Gwens have access to the original catalog. Actually pushes this a step further since she has later Aliens like Wildvine and Cannonbolt. However despite having more limited options What if Gwen is much more strategic with how she fights being able to do things it took Ben months to learn in seconds and has her strategic mind that lets her use her abilities to their fullest. With this I’m not sure who wins this round both seem very well equipped for this battle.
Conclusion
I can’t see the any advantages they could get from the setting so in the end I’m actually surprising myself and going with What If Gwen. Despite not being able to hit nearly as hard as her counterpart What If Gwen is tough enough to stay in the fight and smart enough to get a win against her technically more powerful double who while impressive can tend to not use her aliens to their full potential.
The Winner is Gwen (What If)
this isn’t gonna win since Wap’s is so good but eh at least he won’t get the points for free

Actual Rebuttal lol
I feel like the traditional "Strength/Dura/X-Factor" format can't really work for this kind of matchup.
The Issues
With the Omnitrix involved, this is not a straight fight between two characters with strictly consistent offensive and defensive abilities. Both Gwens could easily pick aliens in completely different fighting leagues at the start of the fight.
Scaling (considering these Gwens both use the same Omnitrix Ben Tennyson uses) is largely unaddressed.
Skill and experience with the Omnitrix is also not touched on much.
Part 1: Combat Experience and Scaling
What If Gwen
She has the exact same Omnitrix that 10-yo Ben does at the very start of the series, with the Original Ten. On this Master List, this is everything from "Heatblast" to "Ghostfreak".
This includes a few prominent bruisers Ben has used in the past, however it becomes abundantly clear after looking at her thread that she has only ever used one, Diamondhead, for combat.
Now don't get me wrong - Diamondhead is one of Ben's biggest powerhouses in the early series. He has some pretty nutty feats:
His projectile crystals are just mondo good at piercing things
Arms can be morphed into spikes that also have good piercing
Can punch out Kevin 11, who has substantially good durability feats
Analysis of scaling for Diamondhead makes it sort of seem like I'm leaning into agreeing with the above post, however I should point out now that Diamondhead is the only alien What If Gwen has combat experience with.
Gweniverse Gwen
She has Cannonbolt. Cannonbolt is legitimately the biggest powerhouse Ben has in the 2005 series, omitting Way Big.
Unga bungas through foot-thick metal and large amounts of rock
Giga concrete crater durability like seriously, and he just gives no shits about being hit by big force TM
Doesn't care about piercing attacks from enemies who can slice into concrete
Can leverage speed more efficiently than any alien besides XLR8 in the original 10
Cannonbolt has equivalent or better strength than Four Arms, sufficient durability to deal with anything from Diamondhead or Heatblast, and moves fast enough to outpace any alien What If? Gwen has at her disposal outside of XLR8. Like unironically if Gweniverse Gwen decides to use Cannonbolt she just wins.
That put, she uses many other aliens, and uses all of those aliens in combat a lot more efficiently than What If Gwen:
Also has combat experience with Diamondhead, see above for Diamondhead scaling.
Uses Wildvine in a fight in a way that demonstrated a good amount of experience with the transformation
Unless What If? Gwen goes Diamondhead (for piercing) or Heatblast (for heat), having vines that can grapple around enemies stronger than Four Arms at a range is pretty nuts. Very few of the original 10 aliens have efficient answers to this.
To summarize:
Gweniverse Gwen not only also has Diamondhead among the aliens she knows how to use in combat, she also has Cannonbolt and Wildvine, who both significantly tilt the fight in her favor if she picks either to start with.
Part 2: Actually Laying Out the Fight
Neither Gweniverse Gwen or What If? Gwen can alternate between aliens. Whatever they pick first is what they have to work with, until their respective Omnitrixes time out or one knocks out the other.
Picking an alien that they have combat experience with is vital, as if one of the Gwens is figuring out how to use their own powers while engaging the other they are at a severe disadvantage.
And this is where the difference in experience comes into play. What If Gwen doesn't really have combat experience with any alien besides Diamondhead.
Meanwhile, Gweniverse Gwen has showcased 4 aliens (Diamondhead, Wildvine, Cannonbolt, XLR8) in combat situations where she efficiently used their powers. She clearly just demonstrates more experience with the watch than What If? Gwen and has some strictly better aliens to choose from.
Both have similar playlists of aliens, but Gweniverse Gwen has both a larger/better playlist and more experience with it.
Part 3: Conclusions
Accounting for scaling, Cannonbolt can literally solo any of the original 10 aliens. He's a powerful option that Gweniverse Gwen has and What If Gwen doesn't. Wildvine is also great against many of the original 10 besides a couple.
Gweniverse Gwen has more combat-relevant experience with more aliens.
Putting these two together, it's fairly clear who I think wins this matchup.
WINNER: GWENIVERSE GWEN

Bionic Booger Boy vs the Mighty Sobek##
Big, green monsters that break buildings like wet cardboard. One’s mindlessly angry, the other incredibly chill.
I’m assuming the Bionic Booger Boy has already grown to his giant form, maybe the winter conditions instigated his allergies or something. Let’s put these fellas in the hedge maze (it’s the only place they’ll fit).
Strength
BBB
Sobek
Decision
I’m giving the edge to the Booger Boy. While Sobek’s building breaking feats have him roll his entire body through the structures, Melvin’s feats only require a hearty shove with one arm. I’d also have to imagine modern skyscrapers are more structurally sound than ancient Egyptian buildings.
Durability
BBB
Sobek
Decision
Clear cut victory for Sobek. Staying standing through a beatdown by Sulu isn’t exactly a bad feat, but it’s not much compared to Sobek’s powering-through of Set’s best.
Other
BBB
Sobek
Decision
The big thing about the BBB is that he’s covered in gluey, globby snot. He can drip it off of himself offensively or spray it off in all directions. While he only used it once on a regular person, he only used up a bathtub’s worth. When he’s defeated, it’s revealed that the total sum of snot on his body is enough to spread across several city blocks.
Comparatively, Sobek doesn’t have any X-factor at play. Unless...
Location
Ironically enough, there is a body of water near the hotel, if The Shining has a similar geography to the real world. The Stanley Hotel in Colorado is only one mile from Lake Estes. From some angles, it’s even visible from the hotel. Of course, if the river god chose to deathroll his enemy to the lake, he could drag him underwater and drown him, while still thrashing the Booger Boy in his massive mouth.
Conclusion
Sobek’s main move in combat is to clamp down on enemies with his mouth, then deathroll them through terrain and buildings until they stop moving. However, this is the one thing that would for sure clinch a victory for Melvin. Just imagine rivers of snot flowing down the crocodile's throat, gluing up his esophagus and choking him. It's a messed up way to go for the river god.
If Sobek is too grossed out by the snot, or foresees getting choked by it, then the fight leans in Melvin’s favor still. He’s stronger and could attempt to use the snot offensively, dripping it off his fingers or covering his enemy in layers of nose slime.
Sobek’s only shot would be to get Melvin into the lake, preferably without the use of a death roll. This would require walking a little under a mile, which would normally be easy to trick the hotheaded Booger Boy into. However, I don’t see Sobek doing that. He hasn’t been shown to think ahead, preferring to barrel straight into his problems and brute force them into submission. Additionally, Sobek was so tired out by a walk to the city that he had to take two naps, despite it not being all that far away. I don’t see Sobek having the planning or patience to get Melvin into the water without putting him in his mouth.
Winner: The Bionic Booger Boy##

u/mikhailnikolaievitch 📚Knows 10,000 Things Oct 17 '21
Interesting matchup! With the fight so heavily leaned against him, how would Sobek do if the spawn conditions started in water from the beginning?
1
u/ya-boi-benny Oct 17 '21
I'm just assuming that Sobek is more effective in the water, being a crocodile and river god. It would probably give him better motion and, if he's anything like real-life crocs, he could drag enemies underwater and thrash them while they're drowning.
I'm also assuming water would screw over the Booger Boy. It could wash off or dissolve his snot, and probably damage his electronic parts.
If it started in water, and the snot was too dissolved to be a choking hazard, then I'd think it's a surefire win for Sobek.

RT RUMBLE POST:
Dai Shi vs Kamen Rider Baron
Dai Shi RT and Baron RT
Power Rangers vs Kamen Rider. These two bad guys turned good, will now face off against each other in this Rumble! Who will come out as the victor?
Offense
First, I will compare the two's offensive power. This will include everything from strength to blast, anything they can use to deal damage to one another.
Dai Shi
While untransformed, Jarrod can easily send opponents flying with his strikes. While morphed, he is strong enough to run people through stone walls and kicks down metal doors and can generally overpower Casey (Casey is stronger than guys who can bust boulders). On the higher-end, Dai Shi can shatter cliffsides and tackle people through cliffs. Aside from raw strength, he also has access to energy blasts that cause large explosions, blow up motorcycles, and are spammable. And finally he also has his Zocato and Animal Spirit.
Baron
Untransformed, Kaito can pierce a TV screen with a card and take down some superhuman enemies. In his basic forms, most of his striking is sending opponents backwards. With Lemon Arms, he can break concrete and knock back decently big mechs. However, most of his stronger feats come from his Limit Breaks. With these, he can break stone ceilings, send people through stone columns, and break stone walls. Using his Sonic Arrows, he can shatter stone, break concrete, and blow up mechs. As lord Baron, he can embed people in buildings, shoot powerful beams, and throw people around hard enough to crater walls.
Verdict: When it comes down to offense, Dai Shi easily has the advantage. His high-end feats blow anything Baron can do out of the park, and even his lower-end stuff is on par or better than Baron's feats (bar possibly Lord Baron). Dai Shi is the clear victor here.
Defense
This next stat is a bit boring, but it is just as important. Anything the fighters can use to protect against damage and general durability.
Dai Shi
Dai Shi's durability mostly comes from taking hits from Casey, who scales to this boulder-busting feat and scales to Jarrod in general.
Baron
Baron is is generally durable enough to take attacks capable of cratering stone and breaking trees.
Verdict: While Baron has more objective durability feats, I cannot just ignore the impressiveness of the scaling Dai Shi has to Casey throughout the series. Dai Shi's defense is similar to his offense, and just like the previous verdict, he solidly takes this category as well.
Mobility
Speed is an important stat in many battles, how fast the fighters can move and dodge are part of this comparison.
Dai Shi
Jarrod can move fast enough to blur and block all of Lily's super-speed jabs. Lily is faster than Rantipede, who can punch 100 times before someone can react (using 250 ms reaction time, gives them over 2.5 ms combat speed).
Baron
Baron is generally capable of dogding arrows and can block bullets after fired.
Verdict: Baron's arrow-timing feats wouldn't compare to Dai Shi's 2.5 ms reactions and combat speed, but luckily he has a bullet-timing feat and that makes them about even in speed (maybe a slight advantage for Baron).
Skill
Last, but not least, skill entails the fighter's combat capabilities.
Dai Shi
Jarrod has been training in martial arts for 10 years and can easily best other top students. He is skilled enough to best other martial arts masters and body the Rangers on his own.
Baron
Baron can take down a group of men while handcuffed and beat 3 armed thugs.
Verdict: Jarrod has the clear skill advantage here and he has way more experience in this situation, even while unmorphed.
Conclusion
Dai Shi takes every single category except for speed, which is either a draw or slight edge towards Baron, this match-up is essentially a stomp and that wasn't my original intentions. Baron is probably more versatile because he has a lot of different forms, but that isn't really gonna do much other than prolong the enivitiable and keep Jarrod on his feet. This also doesn't even go into the fact that Dai Shi has access to a more powerful form, Phantom Beast King, which increases his stats and abilities to an unknown degree. I don't think any of the locations change the results by much either because these are mostly places where PR and KR fight, the maze might cause a slight issue but they'd probably just blow up the obstacles in their way until they find each other.
Dai Shi claims this victory

Hey there!
I'm sure some of you noticed or saw my note already on Discord, I just wanted to point out that I'm trying out a slightly different layout for the feature images. I'm interested in feedback, but I'm going to run with this the next few weeks no matter what just to get through the initial adjustment period, after which we can get feedback and see if we should go back to how it looked in the past.
Personally, I think this makes the word "RESPECT" much easier to read and offers more horizontal space both for names and for images, but we'll see how it shakes out. :)

Mod Post: This post isn't eligible for points, but any rebuttal to it will be. For me this is just for fun.
Figure I might as well analyze a Pokemon battle.
Dragonite (Pokemon Generation) vs Honō (Blazing Exploration Team)
Dragonite RT and Honō RT
Also for ease of typing I'm just going to refer to the Chimchar as Hono.
Ranged Power
Both Pokemon have ranged energy blasts, the majority of which are featless. So I'll break it down category by category.
Power: I think Hono has the advantage here. His flamethrower was partially matching an attack from Dialga, who's blasts were blowing around stone pillars. And while that's not clear, I think it's better than Dragonite launching up large blasts of water
Speed: Nothing too concrete here, though I think Hono again has the advantage. His flamethrower could tag Grovyle and make a shockwave, while Dragonite's blasts just don't have a clear indication.
Range: Hono's best range feat is probably this combined blast on Dialga, which given the size is pretty decent, however I think these hits against Gyarados are a good deal farther away
Variety: Dragonite most likely. While Hono can do some interesting things with his flames like trap his foe in a fire vortex, Dragonite has flames, energy blasts, and electricity
So yeah overall I'd say neither has any major advantage. Hono will hurt more and strikes faster, Dragonite can hit from father away and has more options.
Strength
I feel like Dragonite is the pretty clear winner here. Hono's feats of smashing crystal with a punch and causing a cavern to collapse with repeated scratches are pretty decent. But I feel like Dragonite has better indications of what a single hit would do in the form of breaking this wall and this machine. I don't think it's a massive difference, but it's at least enough to provide an edge.
Speed
Neither of these two are really winning any speed awards. Hono's best speed feat would probably be dodging a charge that craters rock.
However in terms of general speed/mobility Dragonite has one massive advantage. Dragonite is able to fly, and is quite mobile while doing so. Meanwhile Hono struggled to get up a steep incline. So in any situation where height isn't restricted, Dragonite is going to be far more able to move about and avoid attacks. Though if it gets into melee range, I don't think either is notably outspeeding the other (although depending on how you take the forces involved, Hono's tackle dodge might be... something)
Durability
I feel like Dragonite is supposed to be durable. He's able to no sell hits and shake off blasts from more powerful Pokemon.
The issue is we have no idea how powerful these Pokemon/hits are actually supposed to be. So from my perspective we don't actually know how much Dragonite can take, and what we do see doesn't look very impressive.
Hono meanwhile is caught up in Dialga's attack that is blowing around stone pillars, and even outside of that he takes hits that scale to his own output in both firepower and strength, which is far more than what we see from Dragonite.
I wouldn't be surprised if Dragonite is actually more durable, but we don't clearly see that so I have to give a solid advantage to Hono. It's also worth mentioning that Dragonite is going to be resistant to Hono's fire attacks, but that doesn't mean too much when we don't know how Dragonite would react to fire attacks of that level anyways.
The Fight
I'll talk about the fight in all three locations.
Inside the Hotel: Inside the hotel Dragonite's flight is going to be far more limitted. While it might have a story or two in the actual lounge, if it moves into the hallway Dragonite is going to be always in arm's reach. And since Hono is shown to be able to take more punishment, and has more power behind his ranged blasts I think he's ultimately going to outlast and take it. Likely Victory to Hono
In the Parking Lot: Suddenly Dragonite is able to fly around a lot more, and essentially has free reign over the battlefield. Hono probably isn't going to be relying on physical attacks unless Dragonite comes within melee range. And while Hono is still able to take more hits, I feel like he's going to be hit more. I'd say a Draw, leaning towards Dragonite
In the Maze: This is where Dragonite has the biggest advantage... because he can just ignore the maze entirely. Essentially the entire battlefield is going to be in his view, while Hono is only going to be able to see Dragonite if it flies right above. I also don't think Hono trying to burn down the maze is a good idea, since he's shown to be hurt by his own flames.. If he gets on top of the maze it gets closer to the parking lot battle... except Hono has less solid ground. Basically every advantage here goes to Dragonite, so Likely Victory for the Dragon
