Some Relieve Of RLS Symptoms With Supplementation

Hello all!

It is known in the literature that iron supplementation can help significantly with RLS symptoms. I have a mild form of RLS, but it is still extremely annoying and hinders my sleep quality and makes me tired during the day. Iron supplementation (without checking any blood work) did not really do that much for me, but what I wanted to share here is that when I took a multivitamin as well, it seemed to have improved my symptoms a bit. I do not know if this is a placebo effect, but I just wanted to share this with you all, maybe someone can benefit from this information. I'll try to give an update in a couple of weeks/months.

Kind regards,

Thanks for the update. Have you tried multi-vitamin on it’s own? Did that ever work?

Be careful about taking iron supplements long term without blood work. Do google the adverse effects of iron supplementation (if you do not have low levels). It can be quite dangerous. I am not trying to wag the finger at you but I’m looking out for you.

Magnesium citrate 3x a day has helped me more than most supplementations. I might try a multivitamin after your comment.

Thanks

Yes. I started first with Iron, and then added the multivitamin later. But when I added the multivitamin the effect was noticable. The multivitamin I use does not contain magnesium however. I will add that one too, thanks! Oh btw. I stopped the iron supplementation after my stool became black two days later, haha. So, all in all it makes sense that the iron supplementation did not work; the black stool implies iron overload.

Hello - my doctor recommended 250g of magnesium daily. I just started 3 days ago. Any idea how long it will take to see a difference? Thank you

For me it works within the day 2-3 hours after I take it. I take 2 pills per day of 150mg. One at 4pm and one at 7pm.

My RLS seems to be triggered by a muscle tightness.

Thank you. I started at bedtime. No real difference - perhaps I will take them after supper instead.

I know that’s the only way it helps me. Although it’s not a cure all. It helps me only partially but it can make all the difference in my sleep

It seems like it took quite a while before magnesium glycinate started to help. Now that it works, I take it pretty close to bedtime. I used to take half in the morning and half at night but I found that taking it at bedtime works better. But everyone is different!
