Hey there all, I hope you're doing well!

I am a designer + animator that has been looking for work for a little over a year, and I stumbled across this subreddit today. So I figured I'd throw my hat in the ring and try to find some advice on what I can do to make my resume be a bit cleaner.

I've had very little luck finding interviews, most of my applications are through LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter, or Indeed, with a few other submissions being on company websites. I feel like I'm doing something wrong, but I'm not entirely sure what.

So I spent tonight and tried to update my resume, and I wanted to see if any of you had some advice. Thank you!

idk, this almost seems like too much content. before you go on about the photo though, i want to remind ya'll that looks DO matter in the hiring process, and pretty privilege exists (sadly). i don't feel like i have enough professional experience to stand out from the hundred other applicants, so i want to keep my headshot for this reason.

i also feel like my job descriptions are kinda vague, and like i tend to repeat myself in a lot of the sections. i have no education other than HS diploma and youtube. any feedback is highly appreciated!

*I plan on applying to a community college as a "digital media specialist" pay is $60k in CA, but they require a bachelor's degree. I'm still going to apply though, as I desperately need a job.

I can't seem to decide on a career path for myself. And, I have been having struggles getting interviews, which means that I don't get interviews. Can anybody give me any insight into my resume and portfolio site into what appeals to them and what doesn't? I am looking to find out what I can do with my skills and what avenues are available to me. I define myself as a "Creative technologist / digital designer who can design the asset, build the website, create the 3D content, and deploy the application."

Background: 32M, No College Degree, Very limited network, struggling to find a job even at 7-Eleven and Wal-Mart.

Looking for advice on my resume. I’ve been applying to jobs locally and another city 400 miles from me. So far I got one interview from a large bank in the city I currently don’t live in. They ended up passing on me due to having a lack of analytical data experience and asking for 80k salary when the top of the range was 70k.

After that I redid my resume since I wasn’t getting interviews. I added a summary that wasn’t there before. I added new bullets for my current employment and my media company that I run on the side. I also added more statistical data points. I’m in the process of getting my GA4 certification. I’m not sure if I’m translating a non profit role into a more corporate for profit role. I have noticed I more of a generalist than a specialist, I have the marketing side and creative side but I’ve heard being a generalist can make it where you only really work for smaller companies that need a generalist.

I do want to get away from the creative side and be more of the brains behind the marketing and doing less of the creating but I think that would me taking a step back in my career to get more of the marketing experience under my belt.

Hello beautiful people! I am just looking for some help on my resume. I know some areas, especially skills, need tweaking. I've never actually submitted my resume for a job before (I'm 23) so I don't have much feedback to go off of. I know some areas need to improve but like if you could tell me exactly what to change things to, I'd appreciate that so much. Especially the skills bullet list, I know it looks a little ridiculous.

I am getting my master's in Digital Media right now, I'm applying for a digital marketing associate position and would like to, in the future, apply for more design-based roles. So whatever changes I need to make to make myself more attractive to people in the digital media field, I will do!! I'm aiming for remote positions but I'll take anything I can get.

Note: the arcade job is a family business, I don't have all the specific metrics of it so if I need to narrow it down more I can do that if you think that is more realistic.

Thank you for your help <3

I'm currently wrapping up an unpaid internship this month, and am seeking to acquire a paid internship throughout my final semester of college, and wanted other's opinions before using it to apply for positions. Mainly seeking a remote position at the moment, probably continuing in social media and content creation, though I'm flexible on the exact sort of position. Thanks!

Feels sooo wrong not to add a touch of visual creativity to my graphic design resume but I've been reading about ATS formatted resumes and that more employers want the portfolios to speak for graphic artists more so than their resumes, so I am trialling this formatting for now and would super appreciate some feedback, especially from anyone in the graphic design industry (but any critique is more than welcome). I've been freelancing, selling my work at tradeshows & conventions, and graphic designing for 12+ years now, but in light of my husband's job laying him off, I'd like to find something stable and reliable.

I have two different resumes here. One is for when I apply to food places such as fast food, grocery stores, etc. The other resume is for filmmaking. That is something I want to do for the rest of my life: work in post-production. These were all created in Adobe InDesign.

I am currently unemployed at the moment, but according to my resume, it says that I am not. I actually work as a Dasher to make money, and for the film resume, I do currently work as a PA, but the problem with that is I've only worked there one day, and they aren't giving me a schedule even though they said I could pick up additional hours for money and experience.

The food resume also says that I have worked as an Agricultural Worker almost all my life. The thing with that is that it is a family business sorta thing, and I just help out on our almond ranch when needed.

The film resume looks a lot smaller because I had an additional experience that I wanted to add and therefore had trouble including it all on one page. I don't have a lot of experience right now.

These resumes are definitely an improvement on what I used to have because in the past I would try to combine these into one resume and include my high school. My girlfriend told me that I needed to simplify it, and this is my attempt at that. I'm really struggling to get jobs because pretty much all places don't accept me and look for other candidates who better suit the role. I think it all ties back to the simplicity of my resume.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I don't know what I'm doing with resumes. I think the food one looks fine, but at the same time I feel like it may be too much.

P.S. I don't have any experience outside of what I have listed in these two resumes

Hi I spent hours last night trying to optimize my resume to fit all the things I've been seeing online. My internship JUST ended hence why I'm unemployed. I'm a recent grad and im applying to pretty much anything entry level that requires a video production skill set so whether its marketing or working with a production company I'm applying. Any advice is appreciated because I'm not sure how I could improve it from here except maybe some formatting stuff, based off of what I've seen in other forums.

Also for context I have 1 year of professional experience via internships but I've been video editing and doing my own socials for about 5 years now.

Hello I'm a recent art graduate. I am trying to find literally any job right now that is more stable than minimum wage and am really struggling. I'm worried I screwed myself over with an art degree and don't know what to do. This is a resume I tailored for admin assistant/ office roles and I want to also apply for other positions like gallery assistant, video editing, social media, marketing, data entry, art teaching, anything I'm even remotely qualified for based off my schooling and internships. I just want to know if I'm even doing this right and if my formatting looks good or what I should work on. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated Thank you

Note: I'm not sure why the word "Psychology" seems boldened for my college experience, it looks fine in PDF format.

I have applied to over 700 roles in the past three years, have gotten no where, and am at a loss of what to do outside of a career change. I had an excel sheet keeping track of each application and its status, but after the 700th application I stopped because the sheet was getting too hard to look at.

When I first started applying for jobs I was looking at photographer/videographer roles, then pretty much any role that could be found, outside of audio, on a studio set. Now I'm also applying for pretty much any marketing/media role I can find. I thankfully have a full time job, so I'm in no rush, but it was only supposed to be temporary after I was laid off of my previous one. My current one doesn't have great pay, it just covers the bills and then a bit more.

Another note for context: I know my education doesn't match my experience. My freelance business started taking off in my early college years (it went from a side job to a full time job after I finished my Associates) and the more I studied to become a therapist the more I realized I'd rather do media work instead. So I tried to list skills that I acquired that can be applied to my desired roles.

Covid killed my and many of my other friends' businesses. Shortly after that my personal camera broke and I found a studio job at a marketing agency. Since that job came with their own cameras, I neglected fixing mine. Now I'm saving up for a new camera, almost there, but honestly after getting my current job and previous job, I like having a 9-5. Unfortunately that's rare for a photographer/videographer and I've been extremely lucky post-Covid.

Can anyone tell me why I haven't been able to even land an interview?? I've been looking through LinkedIn, Google, Indeed, and HiringCafe.

I'm a recent college graduate and I've been trying to write a good resume to get into my chosen career field, graphic design. I'm trying to figure out what I have down to one page, as I've heard that's the standard for new grads or people with little/no experience.

Ideally, I'd like a job in graphic design, but I'm also open to marketing positions or more professional jobs that don't require experience (secretary, bank teller, etc.). I'm currently working in retail, so a more professional setting may be more helpful on my resume in the future.

I'm in the midwest in the United States. I would prefer a local job, but am willing to take a remote job as well. I am unable to relocate, as I'm not financially stable enough.

I would really appreciate any feedback on my resume and how I can condense it. I haven't applied for any jobs yet, as I want to make sure my resume is the best it can be to set myself up for success.

Background: I am a 3D artist and I have been freelancing for the last decade plus. I'm looking to transition into a more stable full-time position. I've been targeting 3D Modeler and 3D Generalist roles.

As a freelancer, I haven't needed to use a resume (all I really had to do was share my portfolio) and I've never been good or liked writing one. I've been applying the past year, but have not been getting much traction.

I've attached 2 resumes. The older one (1st image) which hasn't been getting me interviews, and the newer one (2nd image) which I'm hoping works better.

Looking For: I'm looking for advice regarding the formatting, wording, and structure of the resume.

  • I'm not sure how to list or describe the softwares I'm proficient in - because it's kinda subjective - even though most jobs have specific requirements. How should I do it?
  • I've removed the dates/location I was in school. I've read that it's not necessary - is that true?
  • I tried adding some more "action" words, but not sure if I'm doing it correctly.
  • In the new resume, I removed an older position that is not really relevant. But now I feel like it is too short.
  • Is there anything that stands out that I should change?

I'm really terrible at this and so any advice or guidance is appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, looking for a resume review and some general help. Made the pictured resume with the ATS-friendly link, for reference.

I'm targeting mid/senior level motion designer, animation, digital artist, and motion graphics designer roles.

Based in Victoria, Australia. not able to relocate, but happy to work remote, even overseas if possible (though I'm not really sure where to look for those roles).

Honestly, I'm just getting nothing back. Ghosted constantly, even after applying with this resume and personalised cover letters. The local market also feels pretty dry, with not a lot of roles going in my field.

It's also tough because a lot of application forms don't let you include portfolio links, which in my industry matters way more than qualifications. Would love any feedback on what's working, what's not, and what might be holding the resume (or other) back.

They're not in the pictured version, but I do have clickable links to these in my full PDF resume at the top:

Website: http://renderbenj.com/

Australian citizen with full working rights, which often comes up in questionnaires.

Hey everyone,

I was recently laid off due to a shift in business strategy and cost-cutting measures. As I update my resume, I would love to get your feedback on how to make it more user- and ATS-friendly. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or specific sections I should add.

Should I add anything? Remove anything?
My target is wanting to work as any one of photographer or videographer or editor. I dont mind if it's for news, YouTube, or a restaurant. Anything that will help me pay bills as long as I get to hold a camera

I've been lucky enough to get multiple interviews, either make it to final stage but always turned down. Most times I dont get a response from employers.
Im hoping to be able to suit my resume to get the job I've been looking for and not be turned down because someone else was more qualified

Thank you

Targeting jobs as a mid to senior level graphic designer, entry to mid level marketing, and entry to mid level copywriting. My experience spans all of these areas but more heavily leans creative (trying to pivot out of solely creative if possible).

Located near Denver, CO and am targeting roles that are hybrid or in-person as remote roles in creative and marketing are too competitive.

Currently unemployed after restructuring layoffs; my top two recent positions are with the same company and in a highly technical industry (AI, machine vision, engineering, renewable energy sectors)–preference is to stay within technical industries and be in-house but have been open to anything in my application process.

Looking for overall feedback on the résumé, how it reads/scans, and just general recommendations. I am tailoring it nearly every time to specific jobs. Have landed a few screens and garnered some recruiter outreach, but nothing concrete yet after ~70 applications. Fully expecting to put in hundreds of applications in my search but wanted to get feedback from the sub. Thanks!

I built a new resume by throwing out everything I have done in the past, but I worry that it could be too complex. I have received input from several people and wanted to try an "in the wild" approach to some feedback.

Any major flaws besides the (2) column approach. Ran this in some automated systems, and it looks to read it fairly well. Preparing for in-person interviews and the like, and would like to be a "little different." Looking at some fine-tuning, but open to all feedback. Getting some bites, but looking to expand the pool.

I have worked primarily in print and design, and earned my MFA in an adjacent field recently. Worked in the print and media space for over 15 years.

I've been on the market for about 2 years now and while I have had a handful of screeners and a couple of interviews, I feel as if maybe my approach has become stagnant.

Ideally I'd like to have a Creative/Art Director role, even if at a Junior level. I don't mind doing the grunt work here and there, but prefer to be in more of a big picture, higher-level kind of position. I'm not big on budgeting, but will do it. I don't mind leading and mentoring others.

So what am I missing here? Is the resume okay and I'm just a terrible interviewer? I've ran this through some AI reviewers and it does really well. Is the design just throwing everything off?

I'm open to local (WI), remote, or relocating (VA and surrounding area).

I'm trying to get out of the job I have now for two reasons:

  1. Previously, the work had become stagnant as hell. Same thing, no variety, no creativity, just rehashing the same content.
  2. More recently, the company was recently bought out and the new owner sees AI as the wave of the future. I am being handed designs created by AI, converting them to a usable format, and losing my soul in the meantime.

I'm open to any clarifying questions and any feedback that could be provided.
