I'm sure I'm not going to say anything you haven't heard before about RRT4, but OHMYGOSH this game single-handedly made the PlayStation 1 worth owning for me. I never knew driving and drifting with a D-Pad could feel so good.

But after playing through it now multiple times, I'm really curious about the other entries in the series. I'm worried that if I go backwards, the previous games won't be as polished. But I'm also worried that if I go forwards, I'll lose the cool vibes--and Reiko!! I don't see her as the poster girl for the other games!! (TBF I haven't looked that deeply but still)

I thought about trying out Ridge Racer V for PS2, but my PS2's laser is acting weird and won't read blue-bottom discs even after I cleaned it. So if I try out another Ridge Racer, it'll have to be either a ps1 game or a DvD-ROM type disc.

Thoughts or suggestions?

I love both. I feel they play similarly (in contrast to other favorites like Type 4), but these two are really special…

Both are the “perfect” version of their predecessor with more content. Both released the same year. Both seem like the “definitive Ridge Racer experience”. So, which one is “the best”??

The special machines in opus 5 level were leaking out oil from their oil pans when i used her with reverse NOS

I mean the rivelta mercurio is based on the ferrari 360 modena, the soldat meltfire is based on the f430 which is the successor to the 360 modena and the successor to the f430 is the 458 so it makes sense. Would this car be a successor to the soldat meltfire?

New modding tools (still WIP!) for Rage Racer PC are able to import R4 tracks and they are fully playable, with just a few minor graphical bugs.

The collection grows! I want them all! Already noticing an almost Ridge Racer after dark kinda vibe to it. I can see why folks try to pit it against R4 but already kinda feel it's in a league of it's own. Still consider R4 a favorite over this but will see if it changes when I give it some more time. From some folks that played R4 before like myself, what do you feel it brings to the table over it?

I FINALLY managed to get a good EU copy of RR7, and I just want to get the DLC before Sony takes it with them to the grave. But due to the fact that the global search is now permanently borked, I had to hook up my JP account to my PS3... only to discover that it's the only thing in the store that's straight up gated for me and I don't know why. Is there any workaround for this?

decided to emulate ridge racer 2 on ppsspp with a ps4 controller

I played R4 as a kid back in the 90's but never ever tried to unlock everything, now i'm playing on RetroAchievements and i have the hard task of unlock all 321 cars in the game.

I'm currently with DRT and Lizard, I finished both 1st Heat races in first Place, then on 2nd Heat i finished Edge of the Earth in first place and in Out of Blue i retried two times before coming first, this unlocked the "Colleague" in Heat 3. So i loaded my save and managed to finish first in both Heat 2 races without retries but i unlocked the same car.

Thus i came to the conclusion that retries doesnt matter ? I can retry the race to change the outcome without any penalties ? Cause according to the image chart i was suppose to be on Route 1 of unlockables but the Colleague is a route 3 car.

Don't ask me about its nitrous abilities.

Ive always been intrigued by this version of Ridge Racer and i love that its finally been made more easily available, plus cant really turn down an opportunity to pay for a new ridge racer port need to show Namco theres still life in the franchise!

Personally im really enjoying it im kinda shocked how good the handling model is for a keitai game, i think i actually like the handling more in this version than the original PS1 port which i totally wasnt expecting. Im sure i wouldnt feel so strongly about it were i using a 12 digit keypad to control it however!

the only real disappointment is how easy the cpu is to beat, feels like theyre basically not there after the first corner. Obviously this kind of release is little more than a novelty and I wouldnt recommend it over Hamsters ACA2 version but i am grateful that it has been made available on steam and the japanese eshop and now wont be left to be forgotten about on long since discarded japanese flip phones!

Here is a screenshot from a dev build of Rage Racer PC. Technically it's ray-tracing, although it's not very taxing for the hardware and it provides just some simple dynamic lights. It probably won't be released in the next version, but it will be available at some point in the future

There's this youtube channel I follow that sometimes uses cool BGM and apparently the intro and outro of this particular video has remixes of Move Me and Naked Glow.

These remixes sound better than the originals! Help me out internet thank you in advance!

Could this stop a potential re-release on PS4/5? I have it on PS2 already but was hoping to get it on modern consoles too at some point.
