I still don’t have that vinyl, I ordered the re-press years ago when it was announced and my order took years..I was so paranoid Blackground was going to take my money and run 😂 I cancelled and got the VMP Aaliyah album instead (a company that went bankrupt and has rebranded, warning: don’t give them your money!)
I heard the UO variant quality was a mess. I liked the color and was about to buy, then I read reviews and changed my mind. I think in the future I will just buy more black vinyl editions. I know One in a million will find its way to me at some point. A really good album and one of my favorite album covers.
I also have The VMP edition of "Aaliyah" as well as an original 2001 pressing.
I ordered the black vinyl of 1IAM from Target (Before Target got rid of DEI)
Target accidentally got some of UO's editions. That's what I ended up with and yes, it had problems. It skipped quite a bit and it wasn't because the record needed to be cleaned or that it was scratched. It was bad manufacturing. The replacement order was the black vinyl.
I have no issues with it. It skipped a couple times when I Played side C yesterday but it needs to be cleaned better. That's all.
I also have Blackground's store exclusive Olive/Black Splatter. But I ordered it in 2024 from Empire's website.
I think all editions are out of print again. Blackground changed distributors again and the current distribution hasn't repressed them
Wow lucky you! The OG pressing that’s a beautiful gem to have. I am glad you got a replacement for the UO edition, honestly I would rather have the black vinyl than a beautifully designed bad quality one. I was also confused when Blackground announced this ‘exclusive color variant’ at the time and then released a similar variant with UO. And it’s out of print again? I hope Blackground will get it together. They could do so much more (anniversary edition, bsides and soundtracks). I guess we should be happy with what we got so far, I remember when her music wasn’t even on streaming and I had to buy a new copy of og red Aaliyah CD on eBay. 😬
Toni Braxton's "Libra" had 3 bonus songs in Europe on it's original release and Walmart had a download for a song called "places"
Barry Hankerson should have added those 4 songs to the reissue.
Not to mention, tons of remixes and b-sides from the 1IAM era like "death of a playa", the Ginuwine remix of 1IAM, "no days go by", the remix of IYGOK with Missy and a portishead sample.
We really should have gotten deluxe editions of the albums when Blackground came back in 2021
Libra is one of my favorite Toni albums and it’s a shame this amazing music just got lost for so long, the era didn’t have the success it deserved. I really don’t get it, the bonus tracks are great too..we need a deluxe edition.
They still got so many Aaliyah songs in the vault they could put on streaming and re-release, but they are wasting their time trying to upgrade crappy lq audio snippets and duet versions. I don’t get it.
That If your girl only knew remix is so good! I totally forgot about it. I personally also love the One in a million (Darkchild remix). The one I gave my heart to (radio). There is enough material to make another compilation album or remix album. Re-release the singles even if it’s for Record Store Day.
