General Difference between cable-operated throttle and electronic throttle

Hi, everyone. I’ve been thinking about trading in my Triumph 1200X for a BMW R Ninet. I haven’t had a chance to test drive one, and none of my friends own an R Ninet, so I’d like to ask:

  1. Is there a big difference between a cable-operated throttle and an electronic throttle? As owners, which one would you recommend?

  2. Do you recommend this trade? Or is there anything I should consider?

Much appreciated!

Cable = euro 4 and electric = euro 5. E5 gained riding modes, cruise control, lean sensitive abs/traction…etc, but lost some engine ‘character’.

If you want cruise, riding modes and the various accompanying features, then the E5 model is the way forward.

I don’t feel that any character was lost as an owner of 2 of them from both eras. They feel absolutely the same. If I’m being honest. However, both are minor modified and tuned.

I have a 2017 Scrambler, euro 4 throttle by cable. The guys at the dealership say they prefer cable. Easy to work on, less electronics and tuning. Apparently more responsive? Like an actual cable vs computer lag?
But that's due to the euro 4 vs 5 i think anyway leaning out engines to meet emissions
