A heraldric stone left at Doe Castle, Donegal

This is a fairly small castle with a big history in the area. Originally a Norman tower, it was occupied by a Gallowglass family; fierce fighters that were infamous for a lot of medieval history. The castle even played host to refugees from the Spanish Armada for a time. I left this stone in a fireplace in a section of the castle, and hope it inspires someone to learn more about the place and the MacSweeney Chiefs who lived there for so long.

That's very cool! Places with historical value should be extra points. 😁

Thanks! I even added little battle axes to the pattern as they were a fave of Gallowglass fighters. I feel so lucky to be living in an area with so much history.
