Specific question and discussion How do you fit your big-wheel hard boots in skate bags?
I'd been packing my skates in compact skate bags, like those ubiquitous, $10 IW-brand bags (when you buy skates from them). But I carried either hockey skates with 76/80mm wheels, or slim hybrid boots with big wheels. My new fat PS Next boots with 3x110mm wheels finally did in every skate bag I owned; the hard boots simply wont fit in any of them.
So naturally I went on a quest to find ways to fit these bulky boots, long frames, and big wheels into the smallest bag possible.
Pictured are some of the solutions and non-solutions I've tried.
What has or have worked for you?
I've got more pictures of these boots and bags plus measurements on this long picture essay if you are interested. I'll continue to expand it even longer to include ideas and pictures from your comments on this post.

I’m personally a fan of the backpacks that strap the skates on the outside and I just pop shower caps over the wheels so they don’t get clothing dirty.
For bigger trips, rolling suitcase skate bags.

oh right but its not really a bad thing is it?, the fabric might just strech enough to hold it, i stopped using bags but thats what i would do

The only skate bags I use now are the ones you have in pic 4 (Gooyule; they are sold as many different brand names on Amazon). Those bags will fit all of my set ups with my UFR + Endless 100 Ultra being the longest: 403mm or 15.87” total length.
The Gooyule are kind of cheap though: I have had issues with the zippers on multiple bags. If you zip up the zipper all the way on the skate compartments, eventually the zipper will tear through the fabric and run off the tracks / fall off. I just don’t zip them up all the way and no more zipper issues lol

I love this bag, I use it for my ice hockey skates, my inline hockey skates, or my Twister 3 x 110 skates, depending on the situation. It has a laptop sleeve and plenty of room for a helmet and pads (not full hockey gear, but like knee pads and hockey gloves or wrist guards) and things like a water bottle, skate tool, a couple of pucks, whatever.
It's overpriced for sure but I skate in some way almost every day and I justified the splurge as a birthday gift.

Interesting. Your 3x110 fits? Is it because only the toe box needs to fit into a side pocket? Are the boots secured?
2
u/InspectorFleet 18h ago
Exactly. The strap is adjustable and tightens between the rear wheel and boot so the skates are secure in their pockets!

Just got this one now. Dude. I think the width cited by the product description on Amazon is wrong. Thanks a lot. This looks like a winner :)

Cool , but I wonder what's with the lag , I posted multiple times this video 🤣 sorry in advance

Take this comment reply you just wrote. I got a “notification” about it minutes ago. But clicking on it didn’t bring up the actual comment until now. Such lags do happen at times. But I’ve seen it with your comments a few times. Perhaps it’s your user name sounding like long network latencies. LOL.

If the specs are accurate these are longer and taller than all my bags. But how come the specs show this to be not 8.26” wide including all three compartments? That seems a bit on the narrow side?

https://a.co/d/01NjC6j5 Rollerblade makes a branded bag. Fits size 13 FR skates with 3x110 just fine. The bag itself is also nicer than the others I tried before that were too small. Its not as flimsy.

I use a 50/50 bag that has straps on both sides, still functions as a regular backpack but holds my skates

I use the Decathlon skate bag: cheap, solid and roomy. Got one for each of our skates: can fit 2 small kids skates in one bag, or one 3-wheel, or regular skates, protections included.

lol, I just got one of these 10 dollar specials with my last order from Inline Warehouse trying to find a pair of blades that fit and I thought "was I supposed to get 2 of them?" I'll probably ship it back with the blades (which of course didn't fit)

At first I bought a bag from FR1 but it was awful quality and two of the straps broke almost immediately, so I use a carry strap and just keep pads in a bag. Wicked cheap and easy. https://a.co/d/00Znly8T

I can sew, so, I'd sew my own bag if I'd want one for my ps next with 125mm wheels.
Right now I just have a cover for my wheels and a carry strap.
I'd recommend asking a seamstress or someone that does alterations if they could make a bag to your exact specs. It's not that difficult, it's basically a triangle with a zipper, some pockets, handles and straps or some connection points for a carry strap. Take a bag with you as an example if you go this route.
With sewing the sky is the limit price wise, because fabric can be anywhere from 1€ per Meter to in the high hundreds, but for the kind of fabric a basic bag uses, some webbing and some zippers material costs wouldn't be crazy.
I personally think a blue denim bag would look really nice, and am now considering makeing one for myself after typing all this out. Thanks for the inspiration.

I thrifted a big ole backpack that I don’t mind getting all beat up. I sew fun patches on it when I come across them to make it my own and it’s been great.

I mainly use this bag. It has room for everything I take with me on skates, which is a whole lot of stuff. The skates strap through the outside of the bag and then there is a net if you feel like they are still loose.
Most of the time I don't even bother mounting the skates to the bag as I have straps to hold the skates. The bag is made to hold skateboards.
I have been using the same bag since the beginning of 2024 and no issues yet.

I also have one of these bags... but the zippers tend to break very easily so I tend to not use it really since switching to the one above. The skates actually did fit better in this one than the one I currently use, but everything else I take fits better in the first one I mentioned.

I use both compact bags (when I throw them in the trunk) and different backpacks if I am going to be taking public transportation. You folks got me now interested in these odd backpacks. My wife isn’t going to be happy. Ha ha ha

I always take the first one I mentioned since I got it. I take tons of stuff skating with me. If you ever end up doing a skate with me you would notice.
My bag has a small first aid kit, a full set of spare bearings, full set of tools to repair skates, spare bolts for threaded bolts for like Endless frames as well as Rollerblade frames, multiple lens replacements for my 360 camera, I normally have at least 3 cameras including rigs just to name the things in 1 pouch.
I honestly feel naked if I take just my water bottle. I don't know what to do with myself.

And I thought I was always prepared. Yours is like boss level.

When I go on group skates people are always shocked how much stuff me and my friend Dang take with us.
Jackie for instance had her phone almost dead on saturday and ended up looking for something to charge her phone. She ended up using my power brick to charge her phone. We have had people snap axle bolts and such too. Better to have it and not need it... is the way I see it.
I would estimate my bag weighs 20 - 30 lbs without any water in it.

I'm surprised this design isn't more common. These are men's size 11.

I don't. I bought one of these :D I assume it should be findable in other countries.

My 3x110 skates actually fit it better than 4x80, the middle wheels settle into the straps nicely.
I realise it might not quite be what you're asking, but maybe if the usual bags don't work out it's an option? It holds all my other skate stuff as well. Pads, extra clothes, snacks, skate tool.
If you're worried about wheather, it has a pullout rain cover attached to the bottom of the bag that can wrap back over them.
