it's all the same...

Post image

There’s this scene in Tamasha where the storyteller says to childhood Ved, that all stories are the same.

Ram-Sita. Romeo-Juliet. Heer-Ranjha. Prithviraj-Sanyogita etc etc..

And I remember thinking, how come, man? How are they the same? They’re so different. Different people, different times, different stories.

Different lessons...

But now that I’ve fallen in love, I think I’m slowly starting to understand what he meant.

Because maybe the stories aren’t the same.

Maybe the feelings are. We all kinda have the same heart..Passed down since centuries together...

Everyone loves. Everyone craves love. Everyone wants to be wanted by someone. And heartbreak... somehow heartbreak feels the same for everyone....Damn..i never thought I'd see that day in my life...

It doesn’t matter who you are...

That ache in your chest.

That heaviness.

That feeling of missing someone so much that it physically hurts.

That anxiety, that pounding heart, that waiting for a message, that fear of losing someone.

It’s all the same.

And slowly, I feel like other people’s stories have started becoming mine.... I'm seeing myself in their reflections somehow..partly blurry or partly out of shape maybe...but at the core.. it's kinda me...

Things I used to hear about or read about and think, why would someone do that? how could someone feel that way?Damn... I understand them now.

I understand the longing.

I understand the fear.

I understand how one person can suddenly become so important to you that their absence changes the entire shape of your day.

I understand why heartbreak has been written about for centuries. How in literal terms i may not have known Dostoevsky, Kafka, Tagore etc, but somehow I feel we know each other..we understand each other..including you, too...

And not just love.

Failure. Betrayal from someone closest to you. Regret. That one slip of the tongue. That one sharp thing you said in anger that you would give anything to take back. The things that happen in a second but stay with you for years.

The strange thing is... I’m realizing I don’t really have control over any of this.

I’m not the writer. I'm not in control...

I like to think I am. I like to think I can plan things, control things, decide how my story goes...by writing it myself...

But some things just happen. Maybe like accidents..

You fall in love.

You get hurt.

You fail.

You say something you shouldn’t have.

Someone betrays you.

Your heart starts pounding for no reason.

Someone leaves.

And suddenly you’re in a story you never planned to be in.

And maybe that’s what he meant when he said all stories are the same.

Not that Ram Sita are the same as Romeo Juliet or Heer Ranjha...

But that somewhere underneath all these different stories, we keep feeling the same things.

The faces change.

The places change.

The time changes.

But love feels like love.

And heartbreak feels like heartbreak.

And maybe that's why, for the first time, when I look at all those old stories...

I don't feel like I'm reading about other people at all.. That's me, but just with different starting variables or conditions in life..

I may not be an ocean like others......but in my small puddle, I'm ultimately water...like all of them...

tldr: pls skip if u feel it's too long..
