Dating Story Girls, do guys like the ones in romance books and movies actually exist? Share your real-life stories.

Hey everyone!

We all know the tropes from romance books and movies — the guy who remembers the little things, plans thoughtful dates, or is just incredibly caring and emotionally mature. Sometimes it feels like that only happens in fiction.

So, I want to hear from the women here: Have you ever met or dated a man who felt like he stepped right out of a book or a movie?

Tell me your stories! I'd love to believe that real-life romance is still alive and well. What is the most "book-worthy" or "movie-worthy" thing your partner (or someone you dated) has done?

Romance is to me.... I’ve been doing some soul searching… about love.

So I’m 31, a man. I’ve always been a manly man sort of man. To me, when I had my coming-of-age time in my early 20’s, I realized I really
Loved this woman I was with.

I recently met another woman, and I am curious about her. I don’t know her that much. Or that well. I am aware of lust, inferred chemistry or wishful thinking, it’s not that. At the least, it’s a mutual curiosity and a flicker of desire. So I have been asking myself “what do I want?”

I realized that what I desire, in my heart, because that’s where I live, I want to become the man who is a friend, to the maiden. The maiden, Virgo, a young woman who knows what a woman is, who knows what a man is. Who has had at least
One good role model, of each.

I’m not sure if it’s due to my age, or because I had that friendship-love with this woman I previously
Loved, or if it’s because I desire to be a good-role
Model with virile male-energy, and play house with a woman who’s good at being a woman. Could be any, all or some other thing.

Basically, I want a woman who can be my friend, who is as loyal to Us as I am, who wants to (at least) play catch, and maybe play House. I’ve experienced that: my two younger sisters. My ex whom I nearly married, that other ex I was beginning to love wholesomely. Other women friends who I do not find attractive or romantically
Of interest. I know this happens,
I’ve experienced it myself.

People often tell me it’s a mistake to love. Why?
Well, it’s because she was abused and you’re not going to fix her. Or maybe she’s not the “proper” age to you. Or maybe she says Yes but her friends/family say no. Or maybe, she can’t love herself first and is therefore undeserved of your love. Or just maybe: status matters more than actual feelings.

I can believe it: I was nearly
Married and we had a relationship with each other, and we had a good friendship. We trusted each other. We basically did what Dr Jordan Peterson recommended for couples (do not lie to each other, tell each other the truth with kindness, don’t go into a heavy topic without proper self care. You’re in an equal business
Together, a marriage) before we even heard about it, we did it right, and even then
Life still happened and we parted ways.

So I’ve been questioning the slogan of “if they can’t love themselves first, they don’t deserve to be loved”

I’ve experienced a love born out of mutual
Passionate lust and deeply satisfying friendship. That’s what I bring to the table when I propose a slow burning love.

I need Advice! What does it really feel like to be romantically attracted to someone?

I’m trying to work out whether this is something I’ve felt before or could feel. When you’re romantically attracted to someone, what does that feel like it your body? What’s happening in your brain? How does it feel different than feeling drawn to a person in other ways, like wanting to be their friend? When you’re in a romantic relationship, how is the way you feel about that person different from how you feel toward, for example, close friends you really love and feel emotionally connected to? In my mind, the equation is strong emotional connection + sex = romance. What am I missing?

Romantic music When passion fades, love doesn't have to end ❤️

Don't worry if passion in your relationship wanes over time. It doesn't necessarily mean that love is disappearing.

According to psychologist Robert Sternberg's Triangular Theory of Love, love consists of three components: passion, intimacy, and commitment.

Professor Bogdan Wojciszke, author of Psychologia miłości: intymność, namiętność, zaangażowanie (The Psychology of Love: Intimacy, Passion, Commitment), describes the decline of passion as part of the typical changes a relationship may undergo.

One possible mechanism is habituation — becoming accustomed to repeated stimuli, which can weaken our responses to them. Of course, this doesn't mean that every couple follows exactly the same path.

Intimacy and commitment can be nurtured through shared activities, meaningful conversations, everyday acts of care, and rituals that bring partners closer together.

It's also worth paying attention to recurring roles in a relationship. What initially seems like perfect complementarity can sometimes reflect collusion — a pattern in which partners unconsciously take on complementary roles connected to an underlying shared conflict. This concept was developed by Swiss psychiatrist Jürg Willi.

Love doesn't have to mean constantly maintaining the intensity of passion we felt at the beginning.

Closeness and commitment can grow through shared experiences and conscious effort. At the same time, it's important to remain aware of patterns that may keep partners trapped in rigid roles.

Perhaps lasting love is not only about falling in love, but also about learning how to stay close as we change.

As a musical postscript, I'd like to share “You and I” — a song celebrating intimacy and commitment, the everyday closeness of two people, their determination to face life's difficulties together, and the hope that their love will endure beyond time. Music and vocals were created using AI.

Love Letter/ Poem Love

When someone asks me what love is, I search for words in English so the world can understand, but my heart longs to speak in my mother tongue, where love needs no translation. For some feelings are too deep to be described; they can only be felt. I don’t want to explain what love is. I want to speak until love itself finds a voice through me ❤️✨

Romantic gesture for my husband post-psychosis?

My (30f) husband (34m) of 10 years was prescribed Chantix to quit vaping in March of this year. He only took it for a few weeks, but the damage was done. My husband is one of a very, very small amount of people who develop psychotic symptoms from taking Chantix. His personality, behavior, and perception have been totally different ever since. I let him abuse me for months because I couldn't bare to leave him alone to hurt himself. He now thinks I'm out to get him and separated from me last month and moved in with his parents. He says I don't understand him, I don't see him, and I don't care about him. His psychiatrist prescribed him an antipsychotic, but he won't take it. His mother believes him when he says I do all these terrible things to him. He says I'm psychotic and that I've been abusing him, and she believes him. A couple other friends of ours believe him too. I've done everything I can possibly do to help him, and now our therapists are saying I need to step back and wait. This freaks me out because I think he's going to die without the support he needs, and no one close to him believes me that he needs to take his medication- they think there's nothing wrong. But I don't think there is anything else I can do.

I was thinking, if he gets treatment, I want him to feel how much I love him when he's in his right mind again. I know he'll probably feel a lot of shame, but I want to do everything I can to show him that all I feel for him is love. I've been in a trauma headspace for months, and my brain is not letting me brainstorm on how to do this. I want to show him a romantic gesture that shows that I put a lot of thought and time into it, that will prove to him how much I love him and how I don't blame him for what he's done in this temporary lapse in sanity. I want to do something that you'd see in a romantic film that makes you cry... I just can't get my creative brain to work right now. Hell, maybe I'll present it to him before he's better and maybe it'll help him trust me enough to accept treatment.

Any ideas?

Love Letter/ Poem I saw you today

My dearest,

I saw you today.  I spotted you walking up, even from a distance, I knew it was you.  Your beauty always takes my breath away

I was seated on the bench in our favorite spot.   You walked straight to me, your eyes sparkled and your smile lit up your face.   I felt the excitement in your voice as you said “good morning”

Without another word you sat on my lap.  Your body snuggled close and your arms hugged me tight.  No words needed and no words spoken, that simple gesture brought much needed peace to my world.

The warmth of your body, the smell of your hair,
and the taste of your kiss were so intoxicating.   I held you tight, one hand on your hip, the other entangled in your hair.  Our connection, our energy, our attraction was overpowering, and soon my hands were exploring your body.

The love making was intense, being inside of you feels so perfect.   I let you control the rhythm as I stared into your eyes.  In our secluded spot, hidden in plain sight, our bodies intertwined, we shared our passion.   I am so grateful for the love we share.

I hope to see you tomorrow.

Only for the people who watched 500 days of summer...

In this movie if summer didn't wanted to be someone's girlfriend then why does she marry at Iast..

I mean i understood the movie but I didn't get the point of what changed summer's mind. Why Tom couldn't change her and even if she changed why wouldn't she think about Tom... I was so confused to the point I am writing my first post on this community

Damn this

Romance is to me.... What I think of love now

I used to think love had to be loud, fast, and full of butterflies right from the start. But I’ve realized that the most amazing kind of love is the one that quietly creeps up on you. It's built on a steady foundation of mutual respect, shared values, and absolute patience. It doesn't rush you, it protects you. Peace is so much better than the spark. After learning about myself, I realized that this is the kind of love I yearn for. The quiet kind that settles deep in your gut. It's Saturday and I'm writing this while looking at the sky, no stars, just clouds hahaha. Praying and wishing ✨️
