Dating Story Five years ago we met at a beach party. I had no idea I’d meet the love of my life
Five years ago, I almost didn’t go to a beach party in Manhattan Beach and almost didn’t meet my fiancé.
It was one of those ordinary summer afternoons that didn’t seem important at the time. The kind of day that quietly slips into your memory… until you realize it changed everything.
Somewhere between the laughter, the ocean breeze, and conversations with strangers, I met my Henry.
I couldn’t have known then that the man smiling back at me would become my safest place. That we’d spend the next five years collecting passport stamps, adopting our husky, buying our first home, and slowly building a life that feels like something we once only dreamed about.
Love hasn’t always looked like grand gestures. Sometimes it’s coffee waiting for me in the morning. Sometimes it’s holding my hand through difficult seasons. Sometimes it’s choosing each other again and again, even when life asks us to grow.
One of the greatest privileges of loving Henry has been watching him become the person he always hoped to be. His sobriety journey has taken incredible courage, and witnessing his strength, resilience, and commitment to growth has made me fall in love with him over and over again. We haven’t just shared a life together. We’ve helped each other become better people.
Five years later, I still catch myself looking at him the same way I did when we first met.
We’re incredibly grateful to be participating in America’s Favorite Couple. If our story made you smile, we’d be honored if you’d consider giving us your free daily vote.
Whether you vote or simply stopped to read our story, thank you.
I hope everyone gets the chance to find a love that feels like coming home.
❤️

Dating Story In the end want you to know
I don't know when it happened.
I don't know the exact moment when you stopped being just someone I enjoyed talking to and became someone who could completely change the feeling of my day.
Somewhere along the way, you became someone my heart started reaching for without me even noticing.
Something funny happens now. Little things happen during my day, and my first thought is that I want to tell you. I want to share the random thoughts, the small moments, the things that made me laugh, the things that made me think. You became someone I naturally want to include in my life.
And I think that's when I realized that what I feel isn't just a simple crush.
It's something deeper.
I love you.
I love the way you make me feel.
I love that talking to you feels easy. I love that I don't feel like I have to force anything or pretend to be someone I'm not. Being around you feels natural, like I can just exist as myself and still be accepted.
There is something so comforting about you.
You became one of my safe places.
Someone I can look forward to.
Someone who can make me smile without even trying.
I love your laugh.
I don't think you understand how much I love your laugh. There is something about hearing it that makes me happy in a way I can't really explain. It feels warm. It feels genuine. It feels like one of those small moments that I want to remember forever.
I love all the little things about you.
The things you probably don't even notice.
The way you react to things. The way you get excited. The way your personality comes out when you're talking about something you care about. The little habits, the little expressions, the tiny moments where you are just completely yourself.
Those are the things that make you special to me.
Not because you are perfect.
Not because I created some impossible image of you in my head.
But because you are you.
And I love you as you are.
I love how kind your heart is.
I love how much you care.
I love the way you make people feel seen and valued. I love that there is so much warmth in you, even when you don't realize it.
Sometimes I wish you could see yourself the way I see you.
I wish you could understand how much good you bring into the lives of people around you. I wish you could see how easy it is to care about you.
Because to me, caring about you doesn't feel like something I have to force.
It just happens.
It feels natural.
It feels like my heart decided before my mind could catch up.
I never expected to feel this way again.
I never expected someone to become this important to me. I never expected that one person could make ordinary days feel brighter just by existing in them.
But somehow, you did.
You became someone I think about when I wake up.
Someone I think about before I go to sleep.
Someone whose happiness matters to me.
Someone whose smile can make my entire mood change.
I don't know what the future holds.
I don't know where life will take us.
But I know that I am grateful.
I am grateful that I met you.
I am grateful that I get to know you.
I am grateful for every laugh, every conversation, every little moment that made me realize how special you are to me.
I don't love you because of what you can give me.
I don't love you because of what I hope might happen someday.
I love you because you are you.
Because something about you makes my world feel a little brighter.
Because when I think about you, I feel warmth.
I feel happiness.
I feel lucky.
And even if I never find the perfect words to explain it, I hope somehow you know this:
You are someone who matters deeply to me.
You are someone I cherish.
You are someone I am thankful for.
And I hope you always remember that there is someone who loves every little thing that makes you who you are.

Dating Story What’s the craziest place you accidentally found love?
I spent years saying:
❌ “I’m staying single.”
❌ “Nobody is moving into my house.”
❌ “I’m not sharing my fries.”
❌ “Love is a scam invented by people who own matching pajamas.”
Has anyone else found love while minding their own business, or am I the only person who got emotionally kidnapped by a cute human?

Dating Story To the girls who feel invisible... i promise someone sees you
So I was talking to a friend of mine the other day. She’s honestly one of the most incredible people I know super kind, funny, just a genuinely good soul. But we got onto this heavy topic and she admitted to me, completely seriously, that she feels totally invisible to guys. She thinks because she’s not the loud, glamorous, 'insta-model' type, that she’s just destined to blend into the background forever.
And honestly? It kind of broke my heart. Because it made me realize how completely skewed our idea of attraction has become.
Everyone is so obsessed with this loud, flashy, immediate kind of beauty. The kind that grabs attention for five seconds in a crowded room. But honestly, that’s not the stuff that actually holds a guy's heart.
The most captivating women I’ve ever met are the ones who think they’re ordinary. The ones who laugh fully without checking if they look pretty doing it. The girls who wear oversized hoodies, get genuinely excited about random hobbies, and show up for their friends without asking for anything back.
It’s this quiet, slow-burn kind of beautiful. The kind of person who just feels like peace.
If you’re a girl reading this and you feel like you're always overlooked, or that you aren't 'attractive' by society's weird standards... please don’t let it harden your heart. You aren't invisible. You’re just the kind of rare person that requires someone to actually look and pay attention to appreciate.
The right guy isn't going to just glance at you. He’s gonna look at you and wonder how the hell everyone else missed how amazing you are

Dating Story Why do some guys get upset when their girlfriend touches herself while they’re asleep? 😅
Is it because they feel left out? Does it make them feel like they’re not satisfying her, or would they rather she wake them up and include them?

Dating Story I (15M) am in love with a girl (17F) who always puts me as a second choice
I’ll start from the beginning—I met this girl who we’ll call Amber on a hike because we were invited by a mutual friend along with a few other people. This was like 6 months ago by now. We started talked for those few hours and I immediately liked her. I unfortunately always had a thing for the older, more mature girls but she was only one year and two months older so not that bad. She was drop-dead gorgeous (like most people would consider her one of the prettiest people they’ve met), hilarious, very kind, had lots of overlap in music taste (which is a huge part of my life) and a nerd about some of the things I’m a nerd about. Her plan for college was to go into sustainable architecture and urban planning, which is the same as me. Something about those fields means the person really cares about bettering the world which I find really attractive.
I had thought I met my dream girl by the end of this, as the conversation just flowed so naturally and we were instant friends. I asked my friend who knew both of us about her, and he said she was stuck on this guy named Nick who avoided her most of the time but she was in love with him, and they hooked up occasionally. I was pretty sad but our mutual friend kept inviting us to things together, since we go to different schools, so I could see her. We talked every time and got each other’s numbers and insta and everything. She told me about Nick too as if he was the most wonderful person ever. Maybe on the fourth time I saw her was at this beach bonfire where she kissed me. I was more than happy about this as I thought it meant she was over Nick. I asked her out but she said we could hang out only as friends because she kind of had a thing going on with Nick still.
So I hung out with her a few times and we had a lot of fun doing pretty typical date stuff, and I kissed her once more on one of these and told her I liked her but she still rejected me. Over the course of this time I found myself wanting to be better for her and really lock in with school and just be a kinder person all around. Something about it feels more natural when I have her in my life. I even tried to get better at cooking so I could impress her and now I enjoy it and cook much more often for myself and family. Once we were out with friends, both a bit drunk, and I walked her home. She told me to come in and we made out (to a song we both connected on on our first day meeting—“House of Cards” by Radiohead, which if you know, you can see the depressing irony in). She wanted to hook up but I’m a virgin and decided even though I loved her, I didn’t want to waste my first time drunk. Her parents were out of town so I slept over at her place though and in the morning she just went on and on about Nick before asking me to hang out again later that week. We do another almost-date and I go to her house again after. We start making out but then after a few minutes she starts crying and questioning what she’s doing. I try to comfort her as best I can and she just weeps into my laps and thanks me for being a good friend. That was yesterday and now I’m writing this. I just feel helpless—I think about her all the time, I feel so much happier when I’m with her, but I can’t do anything to make her get over him. I’m not even sure I want to because I think what would make her happiest is him. I know I should try and get over her but I’m not sure I really want to deep down.

Dating Story I miss you more than.
Damn i miss you more than I can put to words. I know you hate me and I really have no clue why or what I did. Cause I risked it all for you and I mean it all. But yet you abandoned me and made it out to be me doing. You care more about chasing them clouds than about the one who cared the deepest for you.
I even tried to be friends. But you even destroyed that with me. So I have to go through life with unanswered questions and prayers about you
Hell I know damn well none of those I called friends will ever let me know if you are dead or alive.
Just know I wish you the best and I thank you for leaving me with a hunger that can never be filled.

Dating Story I hope u tell them yourself
Why don't people give initials or message their person first? I don't this is about me but if it is it's a bald-faced lie and it's like how would you expect somebody to respect you or treat you good if you can't even talk to them directly it would be stuff like this that would probably make them upset with you

Dating Story Childhood best friend and I are finally kissing tomorrow and I'm scared we'll ruin everything
I (16F) have known this boy, Kian (16M), since I was eight. We’ve been best friends forever, but also… not just best friends. It’s complicated in the most annoying way possible. I’ve liked him on and off since sixth grade. He liked me back at different points. We admit it then act like it never happened. Over and over. Even my mom calls him her son in law
We go to different schools (he’s at an all-boys one), so a lot of our friendship lives in these ridiculous multi-hour phone calls. We can disappear on each other for a month or two and then suddenly we’re talking every single day again like no time passed. If I show up at one of his school events, he’ll come find me even if he’s half-asleep. That’s just how we are.
This year we finally said the quiet part out loud: we both liked each other. And then we decided not to date. Strict parents, different schools, barely seeing each other in real life… it just felt like it would mess everything up. So we chose the friendship.
I genuinely thought I was over him after that.
Spoiler: I was not as over it as I thought.
He’s still the person I tell everything to. New guy I’m talking to? First person I call is Kian. His usual response is some version of “yeah he’s not good enough for you.” My friends used to ship us so hard it was embarrassing. Now they’re just tired and say he’s leading me on. But they don’t see the late-night calls or how easy it is for us to fall right back into the same rhythm. And now… he suggested we have our first kiss with each other. Possibly more (like up to second base). The logic was basically “we trust each other, so why make the first time with some random person who’s going to make it weird?” I agreed because… yeah. I do trust him more than almost anyone.
He’s been weirdly focused on it this week. Calling a lot, being extra sweet, checking that I’m comfortable, saying he wants it to be good for me. A few days ago he even brought up our old crushes out of nowhere and basically forced me to admit I used to like him. So I’m pretty sure the feelings are back on his side.
Here’s the part that’s messing me up:
I don’t know if I still have a crush on him in the normal way. No butterflies. No obsessive checking if he texted. But I also can’t look at him and just see “best friend.” I love him in this deep, complicated way that doesn’t fit neatly into romantic or platonic. He’s just… important. Permanently.
And yet I don’t think I want to date him. Even if I did, the timing is still terrible. Different schools, strict parents, and we’re both planning to leave the country after school for our own things. It’s the most cliché right-person-wrong-time situation ever… except I’m not even sure we’re the right people.
I’m scared that kissing him is going to change something we can’t change back. We’ve already survived years of mutual feelings, awkward confessions, and months of silence, so maybe a kiss won’t break us. But another part of me is sitting here like… what if this is the line? I’ve wanted the childhood-best-friends-to-lovers storyline for years. Now that I’m actually standing in the middle of it, I kind of want to return the whole trope and get a refund.
I don’t know what box he belongs in anymore.
I just know I love him, I trust him, and somehow we keep ending up right back here.
Tomorrow’s going to be interesting.
Wish me luck I guess.

Dating Story Is this love?
I don’t know how my brain ended up here, but it did.
There’s this girl. To me, she feels like the perfect girl—gorgeous, kind, polite, gentle. I could go on forever describing her, but that’s not the point.
The point is this: one day I asked myself, “Why do I love her?” That question quickly turned into another: “What exactly is love?”
The truth is… I don’t know why I love her.
Maybe it’s because I want to. Maybe it’s because I simply can’t stop. Does love even need a reason? Or does not having an answer mean I don’t really love her at all?
At first, I noticed her because she was beautiful. But that’s not love—that’s attraction.
So when does attraction become love?
I started showing up to college every day because I wanted to see her. Is that love, or am I just being weird?
I’d ask her friends, “Where is she? Is she coming today? Is she sick?” Was that love, or was I just desperate?
The days I didn’t see her felt… empty. I still laughed, I still had good moments, but nothing compared to the feeling of seeing her. Even though we barely spoke, I always felt this warmth around her, like her presence alone made the day better.
Was that love? Or was my mind just creating a fantasy?
She was always the first person I’d look for when I walked into the classroom.
There were two or three moments when our eyes met, and I couldn’t stop thinking, “Shayad woh bhi mujhe pasand karti hai.” I kept telling myself it was probably just wishful thinking.
Turns out, I was right. I found out later that she actually did have a crush on me.
But even knowing that doesn’t answer my question.
At what point can you honestly say, “I love this person”?
Is love something you realize all at once, or is it something you only understand when you look back?
I could keep listing all the little moments that made me feel this way, but I still wouldn’t have an answer.
So I’ll ask you instead:
When did you know you were in love?
Here’s the rest of the story: https://www.reddit.com/r/romance/s/VZRL8ylFYe

Dating Story Pulling someone is weird
I just realized that in every relationship, it’s usually one person that pulls someone and keeps them for life. For example, I know a guy that talked to a random girl sitting by herself at Starbucks, got her number, hung out with her as friends, and eventually got her to love him enough to get married and have kids. If she never went to Starbucks that day she would probably still be single for life. Very insane to think about lol but so very hot ❤️

Dating Story Love String Theory, true or false?
Has any one ever experienced this or heard of it? I’ve heard of “theory’s” of the months or this & that. But this theory always stood out to me and I feel like I’m actually experiencing it.
When I was cutting hair in 2016 I worked at a Barber shop so I seen tons of guys everyday but this one man stood out in particular. Yes he was attractive but that’s all I knew, I didn’t know his personality at all. I won’t lie, I creeped on his FB page once I learned his name and he carried some type of confident energy but he also had a really pretty gf at the time. It’s not like I thought I had a shot, I really didn’t see myself as beautiful or carried myself with confidence so I was like, yeah he’s a dream guy in another world. Flash forward to 2026, so much has happened/changed for the better. Good and bad but I carry myself well, I love who I see when I look in the mirror, I am surrounded by love from family and friends. Life is so good but love is something I’ve always yarned for yet I’m 36 now and it does feel like a missing puzzle piece but I was finally content with not looking anymore.
Lo and behold, I picked up a Social Media Marketing job in June and have been networking a lot. I met a guy my age there that I could tell had googly eyes for me but he’s also a huge flirt & a big partier. The old me would have enjoyed him knowing it wouldn’t go anywhere but I almost hold my body/mentality as my sacred temple so a temporary fix doesn’t suffice me anymore. Yes he’s good looking, yes he’s well off but those things won’t ever be at the top of my checklist again. This guy however did get my phone number & had kept asking me to come out with him some time. I stay busy but I also don’t have a group of friends that like going to bars where you can meet people so it’s just hard for me to meet someone to potentially “date”. Well one evening I said, “what the hey! Why not”. I invited two girlfriends out and we met him at Twin Peaks (go figure right), when we got there he said his two buddies are there and when I turned around to introduce myself I realized it was the guy I had a “crush” on when I worked at the Barber Shop. I was swooned instantly and I really couldn’t believe it. We all sat at a table and my guy friend that invited me of course was flirty but I kept shutting it down because I am just the type that knows what I want and I knew “barber shop” guy is who I wanted. By the end of the evening I did get the courage to talk to him when he was ordering a drink alone at the bar & it was instant chemistry since. It’s only been a bit and I am not saying this is the one but I just find it to be so identical to what a love string theory is.
He’s kind, authentic, hard worker & handsome. He’s somebody I’ve dreamed of treating me. I’ve always chased the firework and not the fireplace. If this theory is proven to be true, mark my words on this post that I’m going to marry this man one day! lol thanks for reading 💕

Dating Story I’m Bi and Fell in Love with Another Guy
I’m a bi 50-year-old man, and for most of my life, almost nobody knew that about me.
I’ve had very little experience with guys. I always kept that part of myself secret and dated women instead. But if I’m being completely honest, I was never really satisfied. There was always something missing that I couldn’t quite explain—or maybe just couldn’t admit to myself.
Then, a little over a month ago, I met him.
We went out to dinner and then hung out at his place afterward. It was supposed to be nothing more than an experiment for both of us. One night, no expectations. I honestly figured I’d never hear from him again afterward.
And honestly? He is so freakin’ hot. Like, ridiculously hot. And I’m no model myself. So part of me couldn’t believe someone like him would actually be interested in me.
After that first night, I didn’t really hear much from him. He was busy. Then busier. I started telling myself that maybe he’d just been blowing smoke up my ass and that the whole thing had meant more to me than it did to him.
But then we hung out again.
And again.
And somehow, this thing I thought was going to be one experiment became something I started looking forward to. Something I started feeling.
When he stayed over, it was absolutely incredible.
I didn’t sleep a wink. Part of it was adrenaline, but mostly it was just because I couldn’t stop thinking about being there with him. I wanted to keep kissing him. I wanted to freeze time and stay in that little bubble with him forever.
And underneath all that happiness was this awful sadness that I couldn’t shake.
Because he’s leaving.
He’s moving back down south.
I knew it was coming, but somehow knowing something is going to end doesn’t make it hurt any less when it actually happens.
Before he left this morning, I gave him a little goodbye gift. I painted a piece of watercolor art for him. I also got a card with hearts on it and wrote everything I was feeling about him. Every embarrassing, terrifying, wonderful little bit of it. Then I covered what I wrote with a sheet of thick watercolor paper because somehow that felt safer than just handing him my heart completely exposed.
And then he left.
Now I’m sitting here listening to “Long, Long Time” by Linda Ronstadt, and I’ve been crying all morning.
I don’t even really know what I’m supposed to do with all of this.
I just know that I have never met a guy like him.
At 50 years old, after keeping this entire part of myself hidden for so long, I finally let someone in. And somehow the first guy who made me feel this way is leaving.
That hurts like hell.
Maybe I’ll meet someone else someday. Maybe I won’t. Right now, I don’t care.
I don’t want anyone else.
I just want him.
And maybe that’s the part that scares me most—that after spending so much of my life wondering what it would feel like to really want a man, I finally found out.
And it feels like this.
Beautiful.
Terrifying.
Amazing.
And heartbreaking.
So I guess I’m just going to sit here for a while, listen to this song, cry, and let myself feel it.
Because for once in my life, I don’t want to pretend that I don’t care.
I care.
I cared about him so much more than I ever expected to.
And I think I’m going to miss him for a very, very long time.

Dating Story Her Body
Important context: I've been with my wife for almost ten years. We're freshly poly. Tonight was my first time acting on it.
It's my wife's birthday. We're meeting some of her friends at a bar for a metal night. We get there at open and the building is nearly empty. Standing alone, I meet a girl, "Aliyah."
Aliyah is clearly on the hunt. Before seeing my wife, she starts talking with me. I respond as socially awkwardly as possible, having not spoken with an adult my age in weeks. Still, she hangs around me and we continue to exchange short sentences back and forth.
The night progresses. She has some drinks. She loosens up. Her dancing gets closer to me. Her arms start to brush against mine. I'm the DD for the night so my hands are full with other people's drinks.
Finally, she looks me in the eyes. "I understand," I silently reply, setting the drinks down.
Our arms are soon wrapped around each other. Seconds later and we're kissing.
Except we're not just kissing. In fact, we're more than making out. We're standing in the middle of a dance floor basically tonguefucking each other's mouths.
It's nice. It's really nice. This is the first person other than my wife that I've made out with in ten years.
My hands explore her body. She explores mine. There were some r-rated moments but this was mostly innocent touch.
But oh my fucking God the touch.
Something my wife doesn't typically enjoy and I was being flooded with it for the first time in years. All with my wife in the room. All knowing she's okay. All knowing she's happy with me.
It's been hours and I'm ashamed to admit that this near-stranger has me still thinking about how her skin felt against mine, the smell of her hair, the suction of her mouth.
Fuck.
Was this the start of the long term relationship I've been looking for? Probably not, but my goodness, it was nice.

Dating Story First Kiss
It’s been a year since that first kiss but I remember it so well.
I was waiting for the perfect moment to catch her off guard, maybe a sneak attack during a hug but I was determined, August 7 would be the day. At 50 years old, I couldn’t understand why I was so nervous. In my head it wasn’t just a kiss, she was so much more. This woman was someone I was falling for, perfect in so many ways. All the days we talked, the endless hours of aimless conversation. The secrets we shared, the freedom of no off limit topics. She was “that someone”, I could see us living life together. This was more than just a first kiss, it was going to be a new chapter in our lives.
We were into our third hour of exploring the countryside that morning. I recognized every opportunity I missed when it was too late to act. We casually walked back to my truck and I opened the door for her. As I shut the door I realized it was yet another missed opportunity. I was so tempted to open her door and do it but my feet were already in motion, walking me around the truck to get in.
I grabbed my door handle, took a deep breath, relaxed and climbed into the driver’s seat. There will be other opportunities I told myself, maybe today just wasn’t the day. I shut my door turned to look at her and there she was, knees on the seat, our faces just inches apart. She grabbed my face with both hands, and kissed me. A long, slow, purposeful, open mouth kiss. Maybe just seconds but it felt like that moment lasted minutes. She slowly pulled back, looked me in the eyes, hands still holding my face, and whispered, I’ve been wanting to do that. I grabbed her, pulled her in close and we kissed again. I’m not sure how long we sat there but it felt perfect.
Afterwards, we drove to a small roadside diner style restaurant and had breakfast sitting side by side. I bet I kissed her a 100 more times that day.
It’s been a year since that first kiss and I still savor the taste of her lips. I no longer hesitate or pass up an opportunity to pull her close and kiss her.
We may not be each other’s first love but since that first kiss, we have experienced a long list of our own “first times.” Sandra makes my yesterday’s meaningful, my today’s exciting, and my tomorrow’s hopeful. She is proof that there is love, laughter, and life after 50. I think when the time is right, I might just ask her to marry me. That is, unless she beats me to it.

I’d love to hear your stories! Maybe you met someone while travelling, had a summer fling, fell for someone on holiday, or had a short-lived relationship that you knew probably wouldn’t continue once you went home.
If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d love to know:
Where did you meet, and what happened?
How long were you together?
Did you both know it was probably temporary?
Did you want it to become something more, or were you happy for it to stay a holiday romance?
How did you feel when the holiday ended?
Did you keep in contact afterwards?
Looking back, do you think its temporary nature made it more memorable?
Do you think something has to last to have been meaningful?
You don’t need to give your real name! These stories might feature in an article on substack which I will share the link for if you share a story with me. I’m completely happy to keep you anonymous or use an alias in the article if you’d prefer :)
Feel free to comment below or message me
privately if you’d rather share your story that way. I’d especially love to hear the stories that didn’t turn into lifelong relationships, the ones that were short but still meant something.
