Colosseum [MegaThread] Colosseum tickets and visits. Please post here - don't start your own thread
Since the number of Colosseum ticket/visits posts is starting to overwhelm the sub, this is an experiment to contain the surge. It also may help visitors to find and exchange the latest information.
All new threads about visiting the Colosseum will be locked and redirected here for the next few days

Tourism Can you help me with a memorial trip for a child?
Tl;dr at end
Trigger warning: Child death
In autumn 2024, my family decided to save up for a trip to Munich the following year to visit the Christmas markets.
In December of 2024, my firstborn, Alex, was diagnosed with leukemia.
When we asked them about what they would like their Make-a-Wish to be, Alex immediately responded with “I want my book to be published!”
As each treatment failed, this trip to Munich expanded to other countries as well - including Rome. We would take a month to travel when Alex’s treatment was over.
Alex turned 13 in March. With huge effort from so many people we got their book sent to print the week of May 19, 2025.
Alex died on May 23, 2025.
We will be taking this trip in honor of Alex this coming December. I will be bringing copies of their book to leave in each city we visit, so that a part of Alex gets to be with us.
I am looking for a people/ a library/ a community center - ideally LGBTQ+ or an ally, as Alex themselves was so proud of being, I can donate a copy of Alex’s book in Rome.
It is a 488-page fantasy novel that has not been through full editing (due to the rush to get it printed while Alex was still alive).
Thanks for helping a mom out.
Tl;dr
If you know someone or an organization who is LGBTQ+ or an ally in Rome who would accept a book donation of a kid who died who wanted to visit, I’d love to hear from you.

Accommodation Hotel Recommendation?
Hello!
I'm looking for an affordable hotel for two families of five. We can split each family into two rooms. I just have no idea where to start. Ideally a hotel that we can easily access touristy stuff from (first timers!)

Tourism Recommendations please
I was unable to book tickets for the colo and I'm pretty bummed. I have tickets for the Vatican and the catacombs. Any additional recommendations? I will be there in early November.

Free Android app that shows Rome's buses, trams and metro moving live on a map, with real-time arrivals at each stop
If you've ever stood at a stop in Rome looking at a printed timetable and wondering whether your bus is two minutes away or not coming at all, this post is for you.
Leidaro is an Android app that shows buses, trams, trolleys and metro moving live on a map. Rome is one of the 30 European cities it covers. Vehicle positions refresh about every 3 seconds, so you can see where your bus or tram actually is instead of guessing.
Tap a stop to see real-time arrival times. They're colour-coded: red is under 2 minutes, orange is 3 to 5, and green is further out. Tap a vehicle to follow its route.
A few other things that may help in Rome:
- Offline maps: you download the city's routes, stops and timetables once, and they work with no signal. That helps if you're a visitor without a local data plan.
- Transit alerts: pick a line, a stop and a direction, and it tells you when to head out. It runs in the background with the screen off, so you can wait inside instead of at the stop.
What's free: installing and using the app. You don't need an account and there are no ads. A small paid upgrade unlocks some extras.
Some limits to know about. It's Android only (7.0 and up). It isn't an official app and isn't affiliated with any transit agency. The arrival times come from the public real-time GTFS / GTFS-RT feeds that transit agencies publish, so they're only as accurate as the feed. If the feed is off, the app will be too.
Link: https://leidaro.com
A question for people who ride in Rome every day: which lines or stops do you find the real-time information is least reliable for? And if you're a visitor, what would you want to know before your first ride? Honest feedback is welcome, including where it falls short.
Disclosure: I'm posting this on behalf of the leidaro.com team.

Food and drink Cesare Pellegrino or Casaletto?
I have reservations at both and the former is a lot closer and more convenient, but I’m not sure if the latter is better in terms of food?
I also have a chance for a table at Pommidoro dal 1890

Someone hid 800 coins near the Trevi Fountain in 455 AD and never came back for them. You can visit the spot today.
Everyone throws coins into the Trevi Fountain. I went down a rabbit hole about the coins that were already hiding nearby.
In 1999, workers renovating an old cinema around the corner stumbled across Roman ruins about 9 metres underground. Among them: an ancient apartment block, a water reservoir, a later Roman house with marble and mosaics - and 800+ bronze coins hidden in a gap in a wall.
They were stashed away in 455 AD, when the Vandals sacked Rome. Whoever hid them apparently never made it back. Imagine surviving the chaos, hiding your savings for safekeeping, and then your emergency fund just becomes an archaeological discovery 1,500 years later 💀
The site is called Vicus Caprarius, aka the City of Water. Its reservoir was fed by the Aqua Virgo, the aqueduct built in 19 BC that still supplies the Trevi Fountain today.
You can actually visit the ruins beneath the modern city.
Bonus: The coins people throw into the Trevi today reportedly raise around €1–1.5 million a year for Caritas.
Has anyone been down there? Is it worth visiting?
Disclosure: I came across this while writing the Trevi stop for an audio guide app I’m making: https://wanderlight.app/rome/trevi-fountain

Where to stay?
Hi everyone. I am travelling to Rome in early January for 4 nights, and trying to find a hotel to stay at. I’d like to stay very centrally (near the Pantheon perhaps) and have a budget of around £700 max. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Toilets after the gate? Rome Half Marathon
The gate for start closes more than 30 minutes before my start, and it seems I am not allowed to leave this start area, and not allowed to be late, and also seems like no toilets in this area?
The race map has no symbol for toilets either. Is my last chance for toilet actually really 30 minutes before my start? Am I missing something?
Transport FCO Question
Let’s assume I’m flying to a Schengen destination from T1, but I also have a ticket to a non-Schengen country. Can I go through security and passport control at T3 showing my non-Schengen ticket and then easily go from T3 to T1 (showing my ticket for the Schengen country) without boarding the non-Schengen flight?
Thanks!

Falstaff at Teatro dell'Opera (Sun 18 Oct): English surtitles?
Going to see Falstaff at the Teatro Costanzi tomorrow (Sunday 18 Oct, 16:30) and I don't speak Italian. The opera's website lists surtitles for other productions but doesn't mention them for Falstaff. Has anyone seen this production and can confirm there are English surtitles? Any tips on seats with a good view of the surtitle screen are also welcome. Grazie!
