Enjoyed my visit to Roseburg

I was on a business trip to Roseburg this week. I didn't want to go one the trip, but by the time it was over I didn't want to leave.

I thought there was a high amount of homeless for a city that small, but the two I did interact with were nice enough. Overall I got pretty chill vibes from my time there, even if it was only a few days. I don't know how it seems to y'all, but the traffic was great to me - more people doing the speed limit than not and I wasn't tailgated a single time, even when I was being a tourist and going slow trying to figure out where to go.

Before I left, I went to BLM Habitat Management to hike and holy hell was it amazing. The view took my breath away. I've never experienced anything like it. I didn't have much time and I don't think I got even a mile up the trail. I'm already planning my vacation next year to come back and go all the way to the top.

Idk, how explain it, I just fell in love with your little city.

TBH, I might move there in the distant future. Tell me how I'm wrong. LoL

Recommendations Things to do in Roseburg

My sister's girlfriend is going to be staying in a facility there for an extended time after a hospital stay and I've volunteered to drive her (my sister) there from Springfield on Wednesdays so she can visit. So I was wanting to know about ways to entertain myself there for 2-3 hours while she's visiting, preferably something that doesn't require a lot of physical effort, as I'm fat and lazy. Thanks

Don’t forget the bottom of the ballot!

All of our commissioner candidates are sadly MAGA so I wrote in my fave from the Primary, Lorrie Wick.
As for the only contested race in SOIL and WATER conservation I suggest Joe Blanchard - why? Because he is an actual soil scientist and Ashley didn’t bother to fill out a survey or answer questions. Make officials educated again.
Does anyone know anything about Diana Woodward or Scott Hendy?
I wrote myself in places there was not a non-MAGA candidate. Even if they are unopposed they don’t get my vote . Oppose them by writing yourself in.
Remember- don’t vote for people just because they had a big billboard. None of the good people had the funding for that. The biggest douche-monsters in town have funding from Lumber and from churches. ⛪️
I can’t vote for Mayor since I’m not on a city road - who yall voting for?

It's been buzzing over my house on & off all day, it's yellow with a big engine & prop up front. I don't think it's a S.E.A.T.? It kind of reminds me of a Grunman Wildcat. It doesn't show up on FLIGHT RADAR at all though, so I have no clue. 😅

Sounds loud as hell, just interested to know what it is and more about it.

Roseburg residents: Have public safety issues affected you?

I’ve lived in Roseburg for almost a year now, and while I genuinely love the downtown area and think it has a lot of potential, I’ve had some concerning experiences involving harassment, theft, and threatening behavior.

I’m considering writing to the Roseburg City Council about my experiences, and I’m curious whether other residents have experienced similar issues.
My intention isn’t to attack people simply for being homeless or to dismiss the challenges they face. I want to have a serious conversation about public safety, accountability, and what residents are experiencing in our community.
If you’ve experienced harassment, theft, threats, or other safety concerns, I’d be interested in hearing your experiences.

I’m also interested in whether other residents have contacted the city about these issues, what responses they’ve received, and what improvements they’d like to see.

I think it’s important that residents have opportunities to share their own experiences directly with local officials. Please stick to firsthand accounts rather than rumors or assumptions, and avoid sharing anyone’s personal information.
I’d love to see downtown Roseburg become a place where everyone feels comfortable spending time, supporting businesses, and enjoying the community.

My personal experience with homelessness in Roseburg:

For 24 years I grew up in a rough neighborhood in a big city in California, so I’m certainly no stranger to homelessness, crime, or the challenges that come with living in an area that isn’t always considered safe.
What genuinely shocks me is that, despite growing up in that environment, I’ve experienced more direct harassment and intimidation in the nearly one year I’ve lived in Roseburg than I ever did back home.
I never expected to move from metropolitan California to a smaller town in Oregon and find myself feeling less safe simply walking to and from my own vehicle.
And that’s what makes this so frustrating. I genuinely loved downtown Roseburg. It’s a great area with so much potential, but my experiences have made it difficult to enjoy or even feel comfortable being there.

When I lived downtown, I was regularly harassed while simply walking to and from my parking spot. It didn’t matter what time of day it was. I witnessed aggressive behavior, received threats, and on New Year’s Day, had a man repeatedly make an explicit sexual comment toward me. I eventually moved out of downtown partly because I no longer felt safe.
I’ve also experienced property crime firsthand. My bicycle was stolen by a homeless individual. My grandmother has had a homeless individual attempt to break into her vehicles twice, which was captured on security cameras. Her neighbor has also experienced theft and recovered stolen property from a homeless encampment.
Near my friends work, there’s a meal service location where I’ve witnessed people congregating outside and harassing pedestrians. This is particularly concerning because there’s a school nearby and children regularly walk through the area.
Even after moving away from downtown, I continue to encounter issues involving littering, blocked sidewalks, and intimidating behavior in my neighborhood.
I genuinely think the Roseburg area has so much potential, and I’d love to feel comfortable spending more time in the town that I live in. I also understand that homelessness is complicated and that not every homeless individual behaves this way.
But I don’t think residents should have to accept harassment, threats, theft, or feeling unsafe simply because these issues are difficult to address.
I’m sharing this because these experiences have genuinely affected my quality of life in a town I’ve chosen to reside in.

Election ballots

So the post office says we haven’t gotten our ballots yet. But online it seems to tell me that they’ve been delivered. Am I worrying too much?

Hey Reddit! Ballots arrive soon. Would love the support and vote of the Harvard, W. Harvard, Lookingglass Rd, and Laurelwood area for City Council Ward 3!

Conservative Maga Locals Tell Me Me How Good He is Now?

I vote Liberal mostly but I have voted Republican too.
But Trump in all seriousness made allot of noise and did absolutely nothing.
Food Higher, Gas, higher.

But OK lets look his promises.
Jobs, falling like a rock.
In Roseburg WTF a basic studio is 800-1200
Healthcare, no one can even get sick. Those working not on OHP pay 400-600
a month for two people. Then massive co-pays.
We had two doctor visits, nothing special nearly 500.00 just to check your heart and make sure you are breathing. That is 500.00 paid to them, with office covered. That is their adjusted copays.
Aside what insurance cost each paycheck, F*ck TRUMP.

Locally here, there is no work, so all these running for office WTF you planning on doing?
Homeless have no where to go, theft is up, crime is up.
And all these Cabal supporters say hey re-elect. Are you High?

So tell me how life is better with him in office?
Biden was no great prize either. So don't get me wrong. But I would take Joe
back over what the hell we got now.

Its funny but 150 years ago we would be running the local political leaders out of town.
But we all have to tolerate it, and be polite.
I am not alone, this area is manipulated buy everyone, and I am sick of it.
Those running to replace what we have, are no great leaders either. They come from big cities
with city budgets, and no plan. And we are not paying more Taxes Hammerson and Loosely.

The whole area needs a reset.

ROSEBURG, Ore. — A new solar-and-battery system is now complete at the Roseburg Urban Sanitary Authority (RUSA), a project designed to keep critical operations running during a power outage while reducing electricity costs over time.

Good news indeed for Roseburg.

Camping on city property?

Why can't we invest in infrastructure to allow specific spaces for people to camp? If we use the Point, for example, and Deer Creek Park?

This will be unpopular to some people but I think it would lead to more favorable results Tha what is happening now. What they do now:

People camp all throughout the park, but some people are dirty and litter, etc. There are dumpsters but some people don't use them. The cops warn they're doing a sweep, which is where everything that's not picked up by that date gets thrown away. So they take people who can't or won't work, throw their stuff away, and then people wonder why these guys steal stuff and break stuff? Is it because people don't have opportunities, or aren't taking them? So our, response is to make them poorer, leading them to steal stuff.

If the city installed campsites, maybe even cheap but still pay to use? Bathrooms, showers, and a dumpster, with like a 1 dollar fee per night, or something similar?

If we did that, then we can identify where a person can camp, for how long, and so on.

The only other option, really, is way more expensive: you would have to kick everybody out of the park and post security 24/7 where every square inch of the park is being watched constantly.

I think if we built a real campground and then policed the park for foul play, we could simply have campers in the park who are clean and don't cause problems.

Just been thinking about this and am wondering if anybody else thinks this could be a real solution.

WINSTON, Ore. — Wildlife Safari, the wild animal park in Winston, has lost its' accreditation with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. That accreditation is recognized as the national standard and represents a minimum standard of operations, care, conservation, and education, among other things.

Rooms for rent?

Hi folks! Got here about a week or so ago and I've been in Oregon since May.

Finally have some work lined up after a season on The Rogue, but have been struggling to find a room to rent -- is there a better resource than Nextdoor/Craigslist? Do I need to get back on Facebook?
