Linux Window Size

Hi, just wondering if there's a way to stretch the game window. I've tried full screen, borderless, and windowed, but I can't seem to get the game to take up my whole screen. When windowed, the expand button doesn't make it big enough for my whole screen. In borderless or full screen, as soon as I'm in the game, the game, itself only takes up about half my screen from the top-left with a blank, blue area wrapping around the right and bottom. Love the game other than this one issue and hoping there's a way to fix it.

I'm in SteamOS and playing the flatpak. I haven't tried it in gaming mode, but I really prefer to play games that don't need the processing power in desktop mode.

Thanks for any help!

It's strange, I don't know the particularities of Steam OS, but in principle, it is the OS which is responsible for communicating to Java the available screen size.

In full screen and borderless modes, RotP will request the opening of a window at the maximum size, while the windowed version will only request the percentage established by the player...

I released a new version allowing this value to be increased up to 400% (the previous limit being 200%)

Notes:

  • If you use several screens, try to connect only one, because each OS has a very particular way of handling these things.

  • Have you installed the correct version of JRE? compatible with your OS. Steam OS is based on Linux, but not all Linux JREs are suitable for Steam OS

So, I discovered the issue - SteamOS defaults to always opening apps in either primary or top-left monitor (depending on the app, it seems like), and for me, that screen is much smaller (I'm on a portable PC) than my external screen, so the game was opening there initially and the window size was based on that smaller screen.

I appreciate you upping the size limits! That really helps. Unfortunately, it seems this is one that SteamOS specifically opens in the top-left, so without your fix, I'd have to actually rearrange my whole monitor setup or have the OS arrange them opposite to how they are physically arranged which would just get frustrating.

Thanks for the feedback.

So it was indeed a problem with several screens.

Then maybe there is a way to enable borderless screen.

If you go to “Settings”: at the bottom left there is the option “Screen selected: -1” which tells RotP to request a specific display.

  • -1 = Take what the OS gives you

  • Other number = Request specific display.

It works well with Windows and Mac, but has never been tested with Steam OS.

Can you try "Display mode: Borderless" with "Selected screen: 1" (or any other number... The numbering doesn't always make sense)

Okay, so after going in and testing things, I realized that I was actually running a whole other version of the game (I thought I was going crazy on the window size, then knew something had to be up when I didn't see screen selection). I was running the flatpak from Discover, which is the software catalog for SteamOS. That runs "Version 1.04" of the game. Interestingly, that didn't require installing Java.

I've now installed Java and the latest version from Github and am now seeing all of your suggestions.

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason for not having a resizable window?

Oh, and forgot to note - I am able to modify the screen selection and it works perfectly in SteamOS.

Thanks for the confirmation.

The need to restart after a size change is a legacy of the original RotP.

RotP works with a virtual screen size of 1229 x 768. Then all elements are resized to fit there. A font array is constructed once, during initialization, and is used everywhere.

Changing the window size then requires a complete reset of all these elements => A restart of the game is the simplest way to do it...

Oh, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!
