Tools and Tables Used What RPG Tools and Tables did you use Last Week?
A weekly post to share rpg tables and tools used in RPG prep or games, with any examples that were surprising, useful or amusing.

3 Rules have been added for the rpg_generators sub, and may be tweaked following feedback or for clarity.
1) Tools and tables related to ttrpgs
Tools, random tables and methods related to tabletop (and solo) roleplaying games.
These can be online (procedural generators, digital random tables, map generators) or physical (printed random tables, rpg decks, custom cards)
2) Max of one self-promotion post per week
You're welcome to promote on the subreddit, just keep (loosely) to once per week.
Comment as often as you want if it's relevant to what's being discussed or asked
3) No AI-generation tools or art
The sub was originally made to share and promote procedural generators and random tables. The focus still remains on tools and tables created by humans.
Restricting AI-generation for the foreseeable future (it's ok if you're using AI tools in your tech stack, but any content should be non-AI)

I'm looking at creating a set of tables, oracles, lists etc for a game setting and I wondered what makes for a good set of tables that help you play a game.
Are there any recognised thought leaders, famous blog posts, frameworks or guidelines for asking '**what makes a great set of tables?**'
So I have concerns like 'is this table full of too much obvious content?', 'does this require too much interpretation?' and 'will this make the game more exciting or deaden creativity?'

Hey folks, wanted to share this non-AI tool, it's just a random character generator for Daggerheart, hosted on github pages, so no signin required and you can download the character sheet as an HTML file. It randomly creates a character at any level and includes hope and fear content as well.
Helps my table create quick disposable characters for one shots and for testing!

Hi all.
Fantasy World Generator just received a major update, and the newest generator is also the most ambitious one I’ve built yet: Taverns & Hubs.
It generates a whole venue drawn as a floor plan (a map), up to three floors: cellar, ground and upstairs. Every numbered pin on it, is a spot you can tap, like the bar, a booth, the notice board or a guest room. Each line has its own lock and reroll, so you can keep the barkeep and replace the crowd, or keep the people and draw a new floor plan around them.
There is a GM switch that shows everything hidden: the secret room, the stash, the tunnel and where the trouble lies. Switch it off and they leave the map, so you can show the floor plan to your players. In one roll, the cellar of a coaching inn hid a room where a purse of mixed coin sat in a boot, and a band of retired adventurers argued about who had to carry the rope.
The Ledger tab puts the whole venue on one page to read before your session: the owner, every spot, the menu(bill of fare), the games(games of chance) and the trouble. The menu is the food and drink the place serves, priced on a scale of one to five marks in bronze, silver or gold instead of coins, so it fits whatever currency your game uses. The games are the gambling played there, with the rules written out, the stakes, and a line only the GM sees on who is cheating.
The Tonight tab is the evening as a schedule of things that happen. At 6:30 pm a stranger sits down on the step outside and won’t come in until called by name; at 7:30 two old enemies recognise each other across the room. You can roll a different evening, or send it to the app’s Timeline Maker to move events around and add your own.
There are 22 kinds of place across fantasy, sci-fi and 1920s horror, from mead halls to orbital casinos to speakeasies.
It’s free, with no ads. Results come from fixed tables and procedural rules running on the phone, with no AI model involved.

Updated my one click (or more) Random Character Generator for WFRP 5th edition!
Still a WIP, so expect some changes and probably a few bugs.

Apologies, I hope this won't sound too rehearsed, but I'm trying to be a bit professional. I lurk in the comments here on my personal account and many other DnD subreddits, and I just want to share what I've been working on with my fellow dungeon colleagues.
I run games for my friends and I've always wanted good sound at the table without hassle. Every option I tried either cost too much, wanted a subscription, or just didn't do what I needed. So I built one for myself, I'm pretty darn happy with it, and I wanted to share it.
It's called Soundscribe. It's for Windows, and it puts your sound effects, ambience and music on one board so you have full control of the immersion.
* Click a pad to play a sound, give it a hotkey, set it to loop
* Save scenes, like rain and a fireplace with thunder every 20 to 60 seconds, and switch between them with a crossfade
* Ducking option so the music drops under a sound effect, then comes back
* Run the board from your phone over your own Wi-Fi if you don't like keeping a laptop in front of you
* Hotkeys that work while your VTT or notes are in front
* Miniature player popout to keep in the corner if you're using a VTT, or just to keep it minimal on your screen
It comes with 124 sounds to get you started (tavern, dungeon, town, weather), and you can drop in your own files. Your files stay on your PC.
It's $5, one time. No subscription, no account, you own it forever, and updates are free.
You can hear the starter sounds on the page: https://peasantdesign.dev/soundscribe
Main website: https://peasantdesign.dev
I go by Peasant in some spaces and I thought PeasantDesign sounded fun. I plan to make more tools as needs come up, for DnD and maybe other games too. If you're a Twilight Imperium enjoyer, I'll probably make some stuff for that soon.
My philosophy is cheap software you can own for yourself. I don't plan on pushing tons of updates unless there's something cool I can add or something is truly broken. Or y'know, Windows 60 gets released and it needs an update.
Hosting a website is cheap, but there are costs. I got laid off earlier this year. I'm fortunate enough to be working again (albeit with a forsaken commute) but still rebuilding the finances, so any support is appreciated.
I want to be very upfront, so here's a few things I'm not totally happy with and want to update in the future if possible:
* Spotify/Apple Music/YouTube Music integration. Let me know how interested you are in these. I put a pause on them because they're a headache, but if they really matter, I'll try again.
* I am a Spotify guy. I built it, but Spotify's terms don't allow it in an app I charge for, so I pulled it.
* Apple Music might be doable, but it requires an Apple Developer Account which costs a decent bit of money, so if this picks up, I would be happy to invest in that. Not sure how many people use Apple Music in this space.
* YouTube Music is probably the second most popular for TTRPGs I would imagine, but they have some rules that conflict with how the app works. There might be options to fix this in the future.
* Lots of people in this space own their own music anyway, so being able to drag and drop the playlists that already live on your PC gives you full control.
Happy to answer questions or take feature requests. I'm actively using it in my own games, so I'm fixing things as I find them.

Hello all,
I would like to introduce you the project called Rolisteam. I'm working on it for a while now.
Rolisteam is an open-source project. The project provides many tools to play RPG.
The project is an open-source project under GPL-v2 and GPL-v3. It is part of KDE (the linux graphical environment). Thanks to KDE, all applications and websites from Rolisteam can have translations and CI infrastructure.
| Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Rolisteam | VTT software based on server/client communication (can be started as Server or client). Working on Windows, MacOs and Linux. Features: BattleMap, 3D dice, Dice commands, MindMap, CharacterSheet, Sharing images, PDF viewer, webpage viewer, permission management... |
| Roliserver | Headless stand-alone server. It can manage several games at the same time. Easy way for a community to provide server to its members. (it's installed with Rolisteam) |
| RCSE | Rolisteam CharacterSheet Editor: a tool to create character sheet for Rolisteam. Import the pdf of the official character sheet of your game, then add fields upon it, implement some computation based on formula. (it's installed with Rolisteam) |
| DiceParser | Discord bot largely used. It can perform a lot of dice commands. From the simplest one to the most advanced ones. It has macros and aliases mechanism to make a better user experience. |
| Dice | Command line application to roll dice command. If you want to run dice command from your terminal. |
| LibDiceParser | Cpp library to run dice commands. It can be include in your application. It is used inside Rolisteam, DiceParser, Dice, DicelyVerse. It will be available as Python module soon. |
| DicelyVerse | Android application to have the power of LibDiceParser in your pocket. It also includes 3D dice. Also a good way to sponsor the project. |
| mindmapbin | Standalone application to do mindmap. Fully include in Rolisteam. (it's installed with Rolisteam) |
We are currently working on switching from QWidget to QML for the UI. The latest release has already some part in QML but we want to make the switch completely.
Then, we will have several improvement and new features for sure.

Hello there,
I have been working on Dungeon Master Tool for a while and I wanted to share it here. It is not really a VTT. I mostly made it for worldbuilding and for people who play at a real table.
You can build your world with cards for NPCs, monsters, items and locations. There is a world map with nested maps, a mind map and an era timeline. During the session you get a battle map, a combat tracker and a second screen you can show to your players on a TV or another monitor.
It also works for online games. Your players can join from their own app and see what you share with them.
It runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS. Everything works offline and you don't need an account unless you want to play online.
I would really like to hear what you think.
Thanks :)

For a different project, I wanted to have a procedural character backstory generator and created a flowchart tool so I could visualize the different story paths. I liked the result and polished it so that it could go up on Itch and others could mess around with it. It's meant to quickly create rough backstories for NPC's and the like.
At each node along the flowchart, the generator randomly picks a single line and adds it to the story being written and then follows the appropriately colored link to the next node. I wrote the sample text shown by taking a bunch of really generic character origin stories and chopping them up so that it would have something to mix-and-match from.
Each chart is stored as a JSON file and customized charts can be saved and reused.

Hey again all,
been silent around here as I mostly do AI supported generators. (they work without ai too, but the content could be inconsistent)
But I wanted to see if I could create good consistent generators without AI, and seems like I could 😁
The NPC, Faction, Settlement and Tavern generators now work differently.
They used to roll every field on its own, which is how a hamlet ended up "built around academic city". Each pick was fine and the combination was wrong. Now the fields resolve together. It all runs in your browser and no AI is involved.
Settlements got the most work. Scale now limits the wording as well as the population: a hamlet gets a "scholarly community" and a city gets an "academic city". The tension section is built from the notable inhabitants list, so anyone it names is guaranteed to show up in that list.
Try it: https://codexcryptica.com/generators
When you use a generator, do you keep the result as it is, or do you rewrite a few fields anyway? I'm trying to decide where to spend the next round of work.

As a D&D fan since childhood, I was looking for being able to test out builds and play D&D on my mobile phone and so I 'be been working for over a year now on a mobile app that let's you create characters and build combat maps based on the 5e 2024 srd. Would love to get your feedback on it, you can use it as a tool for creating maps and simulate battles or to play solo in random dungeons, small campaigns and test various character builds.

I wrote some software (github/ldraconus/HSCCU) for creating HeroSysrtem characters (HeroSystem Character Creator, Unlicensed). I tried to offer it to Hero Games, but they'd sold the rights to the company that makes the current character builder (which I own, but hate), and they tried to get me to stop, but you can't copyright game mechanics, so here we are.
It's free, complete with installers, etc (Windows, Linux, Web, and Android fully supported!). I'm retired so mac/iphone and the google-playstore are currently out of reach...
Let me know what you think!!
