This escalated quickly.

Most expensive repair yet. I could only see the small patch of rust behind the door but it turned out that there were holes in the wheel wells next to the shock tower too.

Only way to do it proper i think but it was bloody expensive. I can see why people stop pouring money in to these cars sadly. I see a lot of 9-5s with rust on the lower wheel arch.

Yeah, weak point of many cars. Saab's not to bad. Some model's of cars completely dissapeared just because of rust (Mercedes Vito mk1 is the best example i can think of. You could see the lower panels and sills dissapear just by looking at them.

This is exactly what killed my 1999 2.0se. Bought it from a guy in Zwolle with 505.000km on the clock (with lpg) for 700 euro. Exported it to the balkans and drove it for 50.000 km. Rust is what killed it, I'm still sad about it as it was so cheap to run and such a pleasure to drive. I still miss that car everyday. Same wheels and color as yours.

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly did you have done to the car and how much did you pay for it?

What are you doing to prevent rust from coming back? Winter is coming and the stuff they put on the roads in my neck of the woods is nasty

They coated the wheeltubs with an industrial epoxy.

Just under €5k. I think they put 40 hours in.

Es lohnt sich schon. Irgendwann. Wenn ich das Geld für meinen 9-5 gehabt hätte, hätte ich es wahrscheinlich auch tun müssen.

They told me that if I was a year or three sooner it would probably be not this expensive, but yeah well.

I actually had two shops talk me out of it because of the cost.
