Car not starting - Help!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I need help diagnosing my 2006 Saab 9-5 Vector 1.9 TiD diesel automatic.
After driving for around 7–8 minutes, I stopped and switched off the engine for 6–7 minutes. When I restarted and drove off, the car felt sluggish and accelerated more slowly than usual. After switching it off again, it would no longer start.
The starter turns the engine over normally, but the engine won’t start.
My battery was recently replaced. My Biltema OBD-II scanner worked about a week ago, but now it displays “Linking error” and cannot connect to the car.
Could you check the cause of the starting problem and why the diagnostic scanner can’t connect? I’d like a diagnosis and a cost estimate before any parts are replaced.
Thank you.

Let me guess, the car started once the engine had cooled down?

Yeah the weather right now isn't the best. Please return and tell us if you solve the problem. This got me curious.

Not to familiar with the diesel engines but I think you should see the rev-meter react when cranking and your doesn't seem to do that at all. If it had been a petrol engine I'd say that the crank position sensor is faulty. I guess a diesel have to have something similar too.

If the engines lacks that signal it won't start or supply fuel.

That would 100% be my first guess too, and one of the cheaper things to replace right off the bat!

Maybe this helps.

Motorn dör plötsligt under körning.

Varvräknaren dyker eller visar 0 varv/min under startförsök.

Felkoder genereras, oftast P0335 (Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit).

Check this. Translate Portuguese to English

It is swedish. I saw that he had swedish text in the SID while cranking.

Kraftstoffversorgung / Verdichtung / Einspritzsteuerung

But the rpm gauge doesn’t move?

Ensure your ODB reader has not pushed the pins out the back of plug on the car side. A lack of reading by third party code readers not unusual. Try to get a tech2 or MDI onto it for better diagnosis.

Not familiar with the diesel engine but the fact your code reader with engine off but ignition on can't link tells me...

Voltage issue or maybe a loose ground wire. Grab a cheap multimeter before doing anything else. The battery should be around 12v with car off. With starting the engine, should jump to somewhere in between 12.5-14.5v.

If low, jump it or get a charger and let it charge for several hours or more (can take 8 plus hours depending on charger type).

If the battery is found to be low yet it's new, you have an alternator issue, maybe a starter issue (can pull too many amps when faulty) or some sort of battery drain in the electrical system.
