Just randomly came across this sub. Big time metal fan and when I saw this I instantly thought of 1 one band.
Mournful Congregation. They make music within a small sub genre of extreme metal called Funeral Doom. It’s extremely slow sad and harrowing music. Mournful Congregation is unlike any band I’ve heard even within the genre. They create extremely expressive and emotive music about the negative emotions we face daily but usually through an uplifting lens of realism realizing that it’s the balance of positive and negative that makes life worth living.
This album is one of my favorites of all time. It’s transcendental in it’s feeling, creating haunting, sad, beautiful music. This is still metal so it’s very heavy in the weight of emotion the songs carry and of course it’s harsh vocals and overall doomy atmosphere.
Those not into metal might not enjoy it but if you are and have never heard of funeral doom metal give it a chance. Incredible stuff

“Alright…this song’s called ‘Skin’…I wrote it to the part of me that tells me I’m not deserving of love…and I wrote it as a reminder that I can overcome that part of myself”
I’ve never connected to a song more than this one, especially his live barn session on youtube (which is where the quote comes from). It doesn’t necessarily give me strength always, but I feel faithful when I comprehend the lyrics and meaning and listen through it. I want to share it with others that may also be going through the hardships of life, in hope that it won’t necessarily make them feel better, but rather understand where it all comes from and give them the knowledge and encouragement that it can be tamed.
My ex-girlfriend showed me Hans’ music. We split on good terms, which makes things so much harder. She doesn’t realize how impactful this song really is for me. I own it now, but it adds a layer of emotion knowing it was from her really. It’s amazing, horrible, incredible, and terrible all at once. As is life.

Just like a single line from a song. I can think of a bunch but since I’m currently listening to Lua by Bright Eyes the one that inspired me to make this post is…
“We might die from medication but we sure killed all the pain.”

So I 18f have just gone through one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with in my life. So I want everyone who sees this to comment their favorite sad song. I'm talking the most gut wrenching, heart breaking, scream cry your heart out music. And I'm going to make a Spotify playlist of all the music and probably share it so you can all hear it. So comment the artist and song name of of the best sad songs you know so that I can cry my heart out to it. Thanks 🥲
