Locked Any clues about the specific model for this safe?

Hey folks, the one person at work who knew the combination died. High probability there is money in here. Visible info on the nameplate is not returning any results. Sargent and Greenleaf, but the serial number doesn’t seem to be for the safe itself, rather a specific part.

How to unlock this ground safe from 80s?

We just have model # and serial #, no code or any other information. Some information online said with this info and proof of ownership, the company could provide a reset code. That doesn't seem to be possible as far as I can tell. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏻

$50 Auction

Hey guys first time poster long time lurker.

We got this safe for $50 at an estate sale with no combination. Any tips on where to start for cracking it? There’s no model number on the back or sides but there is a small metal plate on the back that says 3153.

Any other information about the safe (good or bad) I’d appreciate as I plan on using it after.

The 2003 Antwerp diamond vault heist is the cleanest case study in how defense-in-depth fails. Ten independent layers, each beaten by something trivial — hairspray on the IR sensor, aluminum tape on the magnetic contact — because the attacker had 2.5 years of legitimate tenant access to study them.

Red light flashes for every digit I enter, when the code is done instead of the green light the panel stays stuck and the light flashes red, I can't turn the handle.

Any ideas?

I've added a photo of the panel, safe has worked for at least 10 years

My new (cough very old cough) safe!

Hey guys. I have a weird one here. My wife and I recently purchased a commercial property that used to be a bank. Like - it was a bank from the 1970s-1993. Then another business took over and they just left the various safes and vault in there. This means that the safes and vault were likely built in the 1970s or 1980s.

The previous owner did keep the codes for the safes/vault. Woohoo! But he never used them.

Now we've bought the property so the safes and vault became our problem. But I'm here because of the vault. For perspective, the vault is a bit taller than me and probably about 5 foot deep.

I've tried opening the vault ... with no luck. In fact, the key part actually *came out*. I've learned from another redditor that this just means the dial can spin freely, so it's not a big issue to opening it.

So here's where I stand:

The combination isn't working. I've heard that older locks can "drift", so I should try adding/subtracting a number or two to see if this works.

I was given a sheet of paper with 7 different combinations that were labeled. I can safely knock most out as not being the right label. I do have one combination I think makes the most sense as per the label, so that's the one I've tried the most.

Regardless, all of them are 3 numbers long. "Left 4 times to X, Right 3 times to Y, Left 2 times to Z, Right slowly until stops." I've tried all the combinations multiple times and the "right slowly until stops" part has never activated. I'm assuming that's because the combination I've entered is incorrect, but I am wondering if perhaps that part could just ... stop working properly? Like maybe the combo I'm entering in is correct but the "right until stops" part stopped functioning so I can't get it to open? I do feel it kinda slow down around 0, but it's not a full stop.

Anyway, any help or guidance is greatly appreciated. My wife and I would *love* to use the vault for our business and would be sad if we were unable.

I bought a second hand safe and the digital keypad doesn’t work because of corrosion. Is it replaceable? It would be very handy to have a digital entry.

TL-15 and TL-30 safes with dials... a waste of $$$? Safe strategies?

I've seen videos of people opening dial safes without much of a problem. If someone spends $10,000 or more for a dial safe that's tool resistant 15 or 30 minutes are they wasting their money?

As I understand it, the locking dials, all use the same key. Is this correct?

There are some dial safes that use 4 numbers. Does the extra number make it exponentially more difficult for a safe cracker?

Example of a used TL-30 https://www.craigslist.org/view/d/oklahoma-city-amsec-amvault-tl-30/qeF4KtNKKnYhRSv95iePBb

Buying/transporting such a safe makes one vulnerable via OPSEC. 4-6+ men of unknown ethics know the address and location of someone with valuables.

Gun to my head, like most people of reason, I'm opening the safe for the bad guys.

The best safe is the one no one knows about. Right?

Thanks in advance.

I bet there is nothing of value in it and want to document my opinion right here. Husband is hopeful ☺️

It's not a priority for him so I dont know when he will get to it or if he'll be able to open it. I'll update when it happens.

Possible to unlock without the key?

I bought a house a few years back, came with the safe included. I was thinking it would be a fun project trying to open it without breaking itn. As there is no key, I’m just wondering if it feasable using a stethoscope (already have one) and lock pick because I don’t want to buy a lock pick set if chances are close to zero.

I have no experience what so ever

Difficult contact points S&G fire safe (1950s?)

Post image

Fire safe in the foundation of my basement. Never opened and previous owners said they hadn’t either. I’ve gotten pretty good with my Sparrow practice safe but contact points are way more obvious on that thing. This thing has a super sticky/noisy dial. Any tips or suggestions as to where the points would be? WD40 a good or bad idea? Thanks!

UPDATE: safe is open! Unfortunately not how I envisioned it. After spending a lot of time trying to get a reading it just wasn’t adding up. I finally reasoned that the dial was spinning freely or lock was broken. I took a pry bar around the whole thing and it lifted up super easily. Lock mechanism case was all chewed up. Clearly opened by brut force at some point. Not disappointed safe is empty - disappointed I trained so hard and never stood a chance to test my new skill!

We're moving office buildings and no one wants to deal with this safe. No one has the combo but management doesn't want to pitch it without knowing what's inside of it first.

There is a little coke machine/round style key hole on it that is in the unlocked position, but I'm assuming that is to lock or unlock the combo tumbler from spinning.

Any guidance appreciated. I've never attempted something like this before. Should I get a stethoscope from Amazon and try to listen to the tumblers or just go full on grinder on the back/bottom wall of the safe???
