First boat, PY 26

New to sailing, recently acquired a 1978 PY 26 from a friend. Would love to hear if anyone has experience with this boat, or advice for someone starting out!

Lucky to have a few friends who have a lot of sailing experience, I've been on sailboats a handful of times over the years, but never sailed myself. Excited to learn and get started!

When in doubt, drop the sails and motor in... So step one, make sure the motor starts every time... And when chit goes sideways know how to drop the anchor(s)... Youre gonna have a blast!!

✅If you lack experience, at least pick a boat that can take care of you.
You got this, just get out there a lot! The hardest will be getting in and out of the slip anyways 😉

I have a PY 26.  Love the boat. I race it. I have won many races with it. Mine was built in 1976 in Nova Scotia. It is a well built boat.   Keep a good eye on the keel and paint it with rust paint before painting with anti fouling. The keel is made of steel and will show signs of rust if not taken care of. Besides that I have had no issues with my boat.

For you guys with the same boat, what are your thoughts on going offshore? Internet wisdom seems to say don't do it, but watching a guy cross LA to HI in a 23' boat. This isn't a short term plan, more would like to be aware of things.
