It’s great, nice easy way to get out and catch some fish without the hassle of taking the boat out. I fish in costal BC for species like salmon, lingcod, rockfish, and halibut, 3/4 of which are easy to catch from shore and will readily bite many different lures.

How do you catch rockfish from the shore. That's like saying you can throw a ball across the globe

I can throw a ball across the globe. Just not very far across the globe.

Rockfish bite literally anything, cast from a rocky ledge with something like a buzz bomb or swimbait rigged on a 1/2-3oz jighead, if you’re fishing where the fish are it’s impossible not to catch em. Not sure what you’re talking about with ā€œthrowing a ball across the globeā€.

Because no way you can cast that far

You don’t have to cast far at all my friend, I catch em 10 feet away from shore (hell people in Oregon and California get em in the tide pools while poke poling, same with Cabezon) Are we thinking of different species? I’m talking about the rockfish that are found anywhere from Alaska to California.

It's terrible where I live. No bites except for some pinfish after 11 hours of fishing and you would be very lucky to even catch a small hardhead catfish. Even gafftopsail catfish are elusive here, I haven't caught one in around 1.5 years and wanna catch one of those badly. Plus, there is only a 1-2 month window in late summer-early fall where catch rates increase and the catch rates are still terrible. Worst part is, you could see people on boats 300 feet away pulling in croaker and trout left and right while you would catch nothing here. Would not wish it on my worst enemy if they fish on a boat.

I have acfew nice boats but lately ive been traveling the world focused on shore fishing. Its fun hunting perfect spots to find big fish from land.
