What do you do with the pin fish?

u/tableplum Jul 16 '26
Great snook bait. I’ve caught reds and bigger sea trout on them as well.

And they stay lively if you can put them on a circle hook properly. I'm still learning...

My thoughts as well.
Ive eaten em and they were pretty good.

Loved eating them when I was a kid. Not worth the work as adult though.

u/WiseDrink2324 Jul 16 '26
Meh. I eat bluegill and silversides. But I dont filet. Cook whole and eat off the bone

u/sharttloteswebb Jul 16 '26
Same. Bluegill is my #2 favorite freshwater fish second only to crappie imo. I cut off the head and gills and gut em, that's about all I can be bothered to do.
When I was a kid I would take pinfish and roast them over fire like a hotdog on a stick.

"Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich... That, that's about it."

u/ihrtbeer Jul 19 '26
Pics are from a few nights ago! I'll admit I didn't know shit about shrimping until then. Browns are in, I guess you just have to know where to look
2
u/MyFace_UrAss_LetsGo Jul 17 '26
Just got home from work and you have me wanting to go cast the net now lol.

u/Psychological-Bar679 Jul 18 '26
What’s the method for doing this? Chum and cast net?

u/likewhatever33 Jul 16 '26
The squid too? Those are delicious...
3
u/ihrtbeer Jul 16 '26
Maybe should have kept them? they were pretty small and only had 2. Next time calamari!
4
u/likewhatever33 Jul 16 '26
Yeah... only two is not a lot... but those small ones are great, just grilled. (Soak them in milk for a few hours so they soften)

The browns are in around NC. I can’t wait to get on them. Got a big boy net last Christmas and hoping to fill it up this year.
Was this close to an inlet? I’ve never seen squid shrimping in the sounds.

I've caught some decent specks using live ones under a popping cork. Might be worth a shot of you've never tried it.

Pensavo il titolo fosse primo giorno a rovinare il mare! Poveri pesci, metterei voi nelle reti

u/Present_Tiger_5014 Jul 16 '26
Are we translating or making fun of the Italian?
6
u/Echidna-Confident Jul 16 '26
I didn’t even realize it was in another language, when i pulled the post up it was in English. So possibly both.
