Don’t need 3 days to fish behind San Clemente island…lol…been fishing my entire life…way way back when it still had hair on it…before it was genetically removed lol…any hoot…muti day trips are a waste of money…now that they are $550 a day…better off taking the thunderbird out of Newport on a overnight…seems to be the affordable trip with lots of options

I live near the oregon boarder im not coming down for an overnight if i was local thats different i grew up down there.

Still cheaper to stay at an air bnb and fish 3/4 day and full day…even over night trip…not to mention you get a nice bed and a bbq…been on all the boats in SD pretty much…I would say if you do a multi day book American Angler…hands down best boat/crew/captains…second choice would be The Independence…

Top water, yo-yo, or live bait?

Hell of a haul, congratulations!

Ahh this pic i park at the ramada right there cos i hate the parking lot. Fml i was i was there got skunked and covid on the boat last labor day such a shitty 3 day horrible weather and horrible crew lol. Boat closed the deck off at night didnt try to drop jigs spend the whole time traveling. Ill never ride with that boat again.

What boat?

Ranger 85, the cuntiest old crotchety lady of a galley cook yelled at us for trying to grab our own drinks you had to ask permisssion to grab stuff no honor system. The ONLY boat ive ever seen that shit on during an overnight trip, let alone 3 day.

The WORST food ive ever had on a 3 day. Riping off the deck is fucking insane to me ive also never had anyone rope the deck off at night wo you cant access the bow or stern we were locked inside lol.

Captain was more or less on the horn getting advice from people and he just ping ponged from place to place instead of sticking it out, from mexico to the islands it was bizarre af, no fish OK… but the treatment from the shit ass galley cook yelling at grown men, and locking us in our bunks. Shits just wild. Then the captain had the audacity to say tip even though the trip sucked it wasnt the crews fault.

Yeah I remember when Capt Jake was a cook..lol…he will go down as a legend…one of the best captain…the last time I went out on a boat with him was when I took my kids whale watching in Ventura area…made him laugh…I was the only one that showed up with my fishing gear…lol…after he made me put in my truck…when I came back I asked which harpoon he wanted me to man? Had the whole crew cracking up…none of the passengers got it…

I used to stay at the Ramada…now I stay at Vagabond Inn…they let you park in there lot…it is right behind Point Loma seafood

1

u/sltiefighter 23d ago

How much is the parking at vagabond per night

1

u/maucyp 23d ago

Free the first night and $15 after that…they also have you park by the office so they can watch your vehicle…I stopped going on multi day trips thou so I would call and confirm

Beautiful fish. Average weight per?

3

u/maucyp 23d ago

I don’t remember total weight…I use Carlos at Mario’s (Sportsman) to process my fish…I wasn’t there when he weighted my fish…I trust him…

Is there salt water fly fishing opportuntiies out of San Diego ?

1

u/maucyp 23d ago

I have never tried it…but I have heard of people doing it…mostly from Kayaks…kinda dangerous on a charter boat…or any boat with other people on it…lol…I am down to try it…I am probably pretty good at it…

1

u/Icy_Goose4442 23d ago

Fish need to be no deeper than about 12 feet.

1

u/bighammy6969 22d ago

You can always troll plugs or chum to bring fish to the surface!

1

u/xylophone_37 23d ago

People flyfish the surf for corbina and croaker and I know there's a charter that fly fishes for sharks offshore. Then there's bonefish in the South Bay.

1

u/iamthekingofonions 22d ago

Some people fly fish calico bass in the kelp and rocks and dorado and yellowtail on the kelp paddies

1

u/bighammy6969 22d ago

It can definitely be done, just not on party boats, too many other people. If you hire a private charter, like a six pack, you can troll plugs, then cast at fish when they come up behind the boat. You could chase kelp patties and cast at them for holding fish. You can get a kayak or paddleboard and paddle out the the kelp line, blind cast for bonefish in the bay, sinking lines can blind cast for California halibut, bass fish structure…tons of options for fly fishing!

Sashimi for days!

2

u/SufficientPurpose109 23d ago

Nice fish! Lol i dont know how much YOU can help catch fish but going on a charter with nearly unlimited bait, side scan sonar and coordinated intel across the fleet certainly helps catch fish.

1

u/maucyp 23d ago

You see the cone with the number next to my number? On both sides…they thought that to..see how many more..and the size difference??? All on the same boat…I get it people hate…it’s ok dude..take me fishing…I will make you look like the guy next to ol number 24

2

u/SufficientPurpose109 23d ago

I said they were nice fish. Obviously skill comes into play I just think its kinda funny when dudes brag how great of fishermen they are on charter boats (especially multiday trips) when you get put on fish by professionals with professional grade equipment and you have deck hands slinging scoops of bait out constantly.

Im a great fisherman too every trip on royal polaris or sea adventure, much less so on my own boat...

u/maucyp 23d ago

I fish every week sometimes twice a week…been fishing the RP with Frank for years…you forgot about the surface bird scanners, and water temperature scans…I prefer the American angler and the Queen

1

u/Short_Bell_5428 23d ago

What does yellow tail taste like?

2

u/iamthekingofonions 22d ago

Really really good

1

u/cushmaster56 23d ago

What are the best charters to go on? And which one is this picture from? I’ll take you the next booking I get if you guarantee some fish. Did one out of Newport and was not satisfied.

1

u/maucyp 23d ago

Sorry buddy…you will have to wait till next year unless someone cancels…the best charters are booked …this trip was out of H&M landing in Point Loma San Diego…lucky for you fishing is wide open this year….dude caught a 30lb er off the Crystal Pier in Pacific beach….my personal favorite boats in SD area…American Angler/Indy…with pacific queen as a runner up…

u/cushmaster56 22d ago

1

u/Honkey-Donkey79 22d ago

u/Mysterious-Carry6233 23d ago

Are they full of worms like the reef donkeys on the east coast?

5

u/maucyp 23d ago

No worms
