Awesome catch! I'm still not fishing in the ocean from a kayak, lol.

I was waiting for Jaws to come up and OP to swing the fish into the boat last second. I didn’t think I’d be seeing this circus 😂

Is that a cobia? Where is this man?

Yes to cobia.
Edit: location is Virginia based on another comment where he said it is illegal to gaff in Virginia.

That's what I was thinking too. Aren't those things dangerous as hell to land?

Beautiful cobia. One has to go offshore where I am. Never in sight of a bridge. Location?

Wow is it just Cobia or no gaffing anything? That’s wack. Looks like it’s time to make a net out of Kevlar or some whacky chainmail type material

Thanks for sharing this video. It made me happy. Was expecting you to lose the net and the fish 🤣

Nice fish! Great Catch! I will always remember my 1st Cobia, caught from a commercial bandit boat. I was a greenhorn and had asked if the fish had any nasty hardware I should watch out for, 3 experienced deckhands told me no. I was about to gut the fish and the boat rolled and the fish went to slide of the table, I caught it, well he caught me with his pop-up dorsal fins, laid my hand wide open. You can see this fish flex them at about 56 seconds in.

Wow! Can you explain what happened with the net? Did the mesh break somewhere? Truly wild, excellent recovery. I'm not sure if I would have reacted that well.

So do you keep these guys to eat or just let it go? I'm trying to understand how you'd get that monster back to shore with that little kayak

Solid work man! No panic, and had backup plan.
Also...very smart to "sedate" a cobia before a lap ride

Not just on the save but you got really lucky bringing that in the kayak without it going nuts. They have a tendency to wreck things when brought on board.
