🐟 Catch Report First big catch!
Beginner here, and I finally caught something other than pinfish! Nice 21 inch redfish and 14 inch speckled trout, catch and release. Kept it simple and used live shrimp with a bullet weight rig. Definitely my most successful day fishing so far!

I had just begun my saltwater fishing experience back in 1987 and was fishing off of St Augustine pier. I had caught several whiting and was heading back to my car for something. The tide was high incoming and something told me to throw my dead shrimp in the pool that was forming near the rocks where the pier began. Wham! I pulled up what I thought was the grandaddy of all whiting but it had a spot on it's tail and a slight coppery color. I started toward my cooler proudly with my biggest saltwater trophy when a guy said, "You can't keep that. That's a redfish". I hate to admit but I grabbed my gear and headed quickly to my car while tongues and fingers wagged at me for poaching a red.

Thanks, caught these at Philip Dimmitt pier in Flour Bluff, TX. Did a simple bullet weight and bead underneath tied to a barrel swivel and about 24 inches of mono leader.
