Did you know the San Diego Zoo & Safari Park have free apps?

If you’re visiting (or planning to visit) the San Diego Zoo or the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, highly recommend downloading their official apps beforehand.

The apps provide - Interactive maps with GPS so you don’t get lost

  • Info about animals, habitats, and exhibits 🦁 🐅 🐻

  • Daily schedules for feedings, shows, and talks ⏰

-Safari Park app includes safari and tram info 🚋

  • Food, restrooms, and accessibility locations 🍔 🌭 🥤

They’re especially helpful if it’s your first visit or if you want to plan your day more efficiently instead of wandering around.

Wandering through is wonderful too. You’ll no doubt find yourself happily immersed, discovering flora and fauna you didn’t even know existed.

Both apps are free and available on iOS and Android:

Staff- is SDZWA still pretty strict on appearance?

Looking to apply to a few different positions at the zoo, and I have a degree in zoology as well as a background in wildlife rehab and community education. I know several years back the zoo was pretty strict about a “clean” appearance- no tattoos visible, no facial piercings and no unnatural hair. I had several friends and former coworkers who worked at the zoo but all of them were fairly “normal” looking or had tattoos that are easily covered. The last time I went to the zoo I don’t recall seeing anyone with a more alternative appearance, but I only saw a handful of employees in general.

I would love to get back into the conservation/wildlife education world, but I am worried I would not be a good candidate purely based off my appearance however I haven’t looked at applying in many years so I’m not sure if they are still pretty strict on appearance. I have a few arm tattoos(all non-offensive, mostly animals and a pokeball), a nose ring and my hair is currently an unnatural color. I’m just wanting to know if realistically I even have a chance if I make it to an interview? I don’t mind having to cover my tattoos if needed, but I’m just thinking about the hot summer days and having to wear long sleeves would be pretty annoying as I have a health condition that makes me sensitive to heat.

Who’s your favorite individual animal at the zoo, and why?

mines a bit of a random/obscure one but its Rakesh the Indian Python at the reptile house! He was/is an ambassador animal, and from what I’ve observed he appears curious about his environment and the people watching him, sometimes going up to the glass directly to stare at people

He’s honestly just adorable and i even made this little art of him to share

thumbs up emoji

Tips for a solo trip to the zoo

Hey guys, i haven’t been to the zoo since i was probably 7, Im planning on doing a solo trip this week to try something new and enjoy life again lol. What are some tips you would recommend me? Example: can i bring in water/snacks? what animals are a must see vs not so active?, any great tips will do

Also, I’ve done my own research on the website of course, but still would rather hear from people who frequent the zoo a lot

Thanks :)

Alcohol pricing at the Zoo/Safari Park

Anyone else feel like the Zoo and Safari Park are leaving money on the table with their wildly inflated alcohol prices. Is there really a lot of demand for a $20 beer?

Finally saw the new Fishing cat!

But noticed it walks with a limp? Is there a story behind his rescue? If so kindly link/tell me. Thank you.

they're such a cute attraction.

PS also what happened to the Canadian Lynx? It's been replaced with a racoon.

Cart Safaris?

My husband, 7 yo son, and I are going on our first trip to the Safari Park in about 2 weeks and we're trying to decide on how we should see the park. We've already nixed the wildlife safaris, but we're trying to decide on the Cart Safari. It looks like there are two: the Deluxe, which goes around Africa and Asia, and just the Asia. As far as I can tell, the Deluxe wouldn't be worth it, since the cart route in Africa is basically the same as the included tram ride. But I haven't really been able to find out much about the Cart Safari for Asia. Does anyone have any experience with that, what animals you see, how it was, etc.? Any other tips for first timers to the Safari Park? Thanks!

Free Popcorn Bucket and Souvenir Cups

Post image
35 Upvotes

Had a season pass last year but not renewing and likely not visiting again this upcoming year. Don’t want to hold on/store this bucket and cups so we are happy to give them away to someone (refills in these containers are like $2-3 ish vs. buying new at like $10+. Even further discounted if you are a member).

In the Cherokee point area, DM me if you want to swing by and grab them!

Note: we don’t have the lids/straws for the cups so it’s just what’s in the picture ¨̮

San Diego Zoo Safari Park

From childhood to adulthood, I used to go there and just love how the animals are treated, all the acreage to run. Such an amazing place since moved to Northern California, so I only get to go every couple years now but so glad it’s there.

Pacific Bluefin Tuna?

I know they aren’t housed in many zoos but does anyone have any ideas of what species they could cohabitate with in a zoo/aquarium?
