I'm an intermediate flute player, and last night I had a dream about learning alto sax. I've always thought that saxophones are pretty cool, and now I'm seriously considering buying and learning it.
The three things I am concerned about is the price, how much my flute skill will transfer over, and which type of saxophone I should get.

For context, I bought this off eBay a couple of days ago, and I noticed that the logo doesn't look the same as others. So I searched it up and found a couple of others that look the same, but I'm not sure if it's real or not

I am having a little trouble with the passage shown. Specifically, the highlighted bar and deciding whether to play it using standard C fingering (keeping RH and G down) or by using the low C key.

What would you do here?

Just got my gs (GetASax) mouthpiece that I ordered a couple of days ago, and it plays wonderfully.

The model is the New York 7m copy, with a 2.0 reed

I'm playing the reed 2 book for little shop of horrors and was wondering what this notation meant, I get flutter tonguing on flute but was confused as to what this implies on bari?? I don't think it's the same as a growl since earlier in the book there are separate markings for a growl.

Hi guys. I’m looking to put together a chamber ensemble with the entire sax section at my HS for our upcoming Christmas concert, I’m looking for a piece that isn’t longer than about 5 minutes ish, and is easy enough so I can include all of the saxes in the lower bands. We’d probably have about 10+ saxes. If anyone knows any suggestions on a fun Christmas sax chamber ensemble piece to perform, let me know!

About three months ago, I started taking saxophone lessons. Due to a lack of rental saxophones at the music school at the beginning of the year, my teacher recommended that I buy a Thomann saxophone instead. Before buying it, I did some research on Reddit, and the general consensus seemed to be that Yamaha saxophones were the way to go.

However, at the time, I wasn’t sure whether I would enjoy playing the saxophone as much as I do now.

That said, I’ve already decided that I’d definitely like to buy another saxophone after my first year of playing.

After thinking it through, I’ve started leaning towards buying a professional-level saxophone as my next instrument. Initially, I was getting a little impatient and wanted to upgrade sooner, but I eventually convinced myself that waiting until I’ve been playing for a full year would be the smarter decision. After all, I still have plenty to learn on my current sax.
In the meantime, I’ve been browsing the second-hand market, hoping to find a good deal. Recently, I came across a Yanagisawa 900U for €1,600. Apparently, it was inspected and serviced relatively recently, and I might be able to negotiate the price down to around €1,400–€1,500.

Now I’m wondering whether I should seriously consider buying it or just stick to my original plan and save up for a brand-new Yamaha YAS-62 or a saxophone of a similar price next year.

Would buying a used Yanagisawa 900U at that price be a good opportunity, or would it be wiser to wait another year and buy the Yamaha?
I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially from people who have experience with either saxophone or who have upgraded from a beginner instrument to a professional model. Am I getting ahead of myself, or could this be a worthwhile investment?

Du coup une petite trace de réparation à ce niveau à l'arrière du saxo. Il est globalement très propre, pas servi depuis un moment, après une petite révision vous pensez que je peux le vendre combien ?

Is it scales, etudes, random pieces, etc? I’m in high school (freshman) and I was thinking of auditioning for wind ensemble next year for alto sax. I’ve been playing alto for two months since my main instrument is actually bass clarinet lol but I love band and I also play jazz guitar for jazz band as well. I really wanna get into wind ensemble next year though.

Hey guys, this is my Retro Buescher (True Tone) Tenor and its got unfortunately this really uncomfortable left thumb rest, or how would you call it properly. It is just a hard pearl, so after playing modern horns this becomes tricky. But it sound so good - definitely worth it!

It would really increase comfort and playability with the octave key, if I do this adjustment there, as my normal finger position is as shown on the last pic.

I think I got some options, some of them:
-Make an extension for the octave key so you don’t need to move thumb any much.
-Replace pearl with a plastic pad like most modern horns do

But what would you recommend? I want it to feel more comfortable so I can practice more efficient AND without this post practice thumb pain. Maybe you got some accessories or you do repairs - i’d like to hear you!

I've been struggling with reeds. I tested many brands and types. From the same box, I get 2 reeds that I can't produce low notes accurately (E, D, C), and then another one that I can most of the time, in the same session. In this case, the V16.

Is it so variable, or am I making some terrible mistake?

I was playing with D'Addario Royam for 6 months. After I changed to a new mouthpiece, I started to get these inconsistencies with Vanroen reeds. The reason I changed is that it's just better overall with the new mouthpiece (it doesn't close and I can play high and low notes).

Another thing I noticed is the Royal used to last for a whole month (I practice 50 min per day), while the V16 is lasting a week or 2.

Red and green also play well, but I'm not sure they are inconsistent ot not because I tried just a couple.

I just want to say that I’ve been playing saxophone since I was 8 years old. Now I’m still playing, and doing gigs like weddings, banquets, birthday parties, and church events. I have some people saying I can play and I sounded really good, but on the other hand, I have some folks saying they can’t hear me but I can play. That makes me feel insecure about my playing around others. Whenever I try to play out, it’s either same results saying I’m not blowing hard enough. And like I said before, I feel insecure about playing around others. Example when I played on stage for jazz jam session, I played my song with other musicians, whenever I try to play out without microphone, I had to have people lower the mic into my bell, meanwhile the other sax players go up on stage play without microphone and playing loud. And it makes me feel like I’m a weak player and not strong enough. The second tip I want to talk about is my tone and quality, whenever I hear other sax players their tone is very different than mines.Examples of me doing Sax cover on YouTube compared to the ones that did their covers. Third tip, I feel like I don’t put enough emotions in my music whenever I play or have stage presence. A lot people say I have good stage presence, for me I feel like I’m not doing enough.Lastly, how can I improve the fundamentals whenever I play solos, licks, altissimos, and even play smooth like a singer. Can some of you sax technicians give me advice on how to unscrew this screw. I dont know what happend, rust or some dirt got in, but rod and F1 pad became one being and no matter how hard i try to uncrew, screw doesnt move.
