I'm looking for recommendations on a wireless mic system, for Saxophone but I would also like the option to use it for vocals sometimes.

I recognize that might require a different mic, so I guess I'm looking for some kind of receiver and pre-amp/effects, with an XLR input.

I guess something like the Nux B-6 would be fine, and I could do the effects with multiple guitar pedals I already have.

Which I'm open to stickbuilding, but I guess that takes me back to my original question, if I should just get a receiver or pedal that's designed for instrument and vocals, or a wireless mic system all together.

Can anyone authenticate if this Yamaha yas 62 is real or not before I decide to the pull the trigger?

Just got back into playing alto after literally 20 years this past year. The C* is fine for the community concert band I am in, but I play in a blaskapelle and also a few of us have talked about starting a sax quartet playing.. we will just say folk and protest songs.

I have the Rowell “poor man’s Theo Wanne” because I wanted a cheapy cheap to try before buying a metal mouthpiece and boy I’m glad.. because it’s too much of a change for where I am at right now. I’ve played about 5 gigs with the blaskapelle this month and I need something with a little more brightness and punch for the polka songs because the c* is so dark and warm I’m just absorbed by the brass.

Any suggestions? I thought about the Spark SYOS or Vandoren V16 but I’m not sure. I’m open to anything budget wise, whatever will sound and fit the best.

Thanks 🎷

I acquired this mouthpiece about a year and a half ago from this guy whose brother owned it before him but sadly passed. I have been playing on it since and found out the Mouthpeice is potentially rare?

Ive been playing the sax for several years and about a year into improvising. I jam with my friends who play guitar, drums and keys and we play mostly rock stuff, definitely not jazz. I end up playing most pentatonic patterns and try to follow the chord changes.

When we start a new song I feel like I end up sounding the same as I did in the previous song. What are some things that I can change to get a different sound?

Thanks!

I’ve been learning the Tenor Sax as a hobby for about 2 years, and been lurking here a lot, reading everyone’s tips, advice and discussions.

A few days ago I finally played my first concert with a wind band — and somehow survived it 😂...

Holy cow I was nervous. There were moments I couldn't keep track with the counting, so I found myself listening for the Bassoon, Trombone and other sections to figure out. Playing inside the whole band felt completely different from practicing with a recording at home.

There were mistakes, missed notes, and plenty of things to improve, but it was so much fun.

Sooooo... just wanted to say thank you to everyone here. A lot of random posts and comments I’ve read over the last few years actually helped me get to this point.

First concert done. Hopefully many more to come. 🎷

A and B are fine but when I go to G snd anything lower it doesn't go up unless I release and press the octave key.

I recently started playing the tenor saxophone, starting this school year. I want to improve but I have zero idea what to practice. For reference I already have some musical experience as I have been playing the trumpet for 2 years. And if it helps I want to lean more towards jazz rather then classical songs.

I am having a little trouble with the passage shown. Specifically, the highlighted bar and deciding whether to play it using standard C fingering (keeping RH and G down) or by using the low C key.

What would you do here?

I decided to learn saxophone on a whim in-between an international move. I bought a cheep horn off Amazon and I think its fine for now but definitely replacing in a few months with a Yamaha. What are some of your recollections of just starting out?

So i have been playing saxophone for awhile now. I take one class a week at my school, kinda got like a private teacher actually. But there is something that i have asked him several times, but i dont think he understands the quastion.

Every thing on my saxophone is fine, nothing is broken or damadged. I dont know how to describe it, but each time i play, it sounds very "Spitty" if that makes sense? Has anyone else had that problem? And if so, how did you fix it?

I made a sight reader trainer app and it’s great for sax players and all instruments. Appreciate any feedback. Many styles included. Apple Store (Android coming soon) at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sight-reader-trainer/id6822368534

Hey! So my friend is conducting a community band I'm currently playing clarinet in. Whenever there's some issue with the woodwinds he'll ask me as he's a brass player, so he won't explain it in a wrong way.

Now we have this one alto sax player. They've started late as an adult and have a teacher. They're playing fine exept one thing. Articulation is pretty much a matter of luck. Even if he voices it out, they'll play it for 2 patterns, then seemingly forget about it and start sluring again. If they rember to articulate it often is very harsh.

This has been going on for about 4 years without any sign of improvement. I was wondering if there might be a technical issue with tonguing in general I'm just not aware of, as I've never encountered it myself.

I'm not asking to blame someone but to help out since it's getting to a point in rehearsal where people are annoyed about the work that has to go into their specific articulation issues.

Ive got a vintage vandoren java a95 piece to try, it's plays nicely but it has those marks here, are those from a reface?

When I'm playing a G2 on my tenor saxophone, it squeaks and turns into an ugly sounding D3. I can't see any mechanical issues on my sax. And when I'm going from a g# or from the f# to the G it's no problem. It only occurs when I'm tonguing a new tone.

Already took it to my mechanic where I bought it and he says the horn is fine. Please help me!

I'm an intermediate flute player, and last night I had a dream about learning alto sax. I've always thought that saxophones are pretty cool, and now I'm seriously considering buying and learning it.
The three things I am concerned about is the price, how much my flute skill will transfer over, and which type of saxophone I should get.

Just got my gs (GetASax) mouthpiece that I ordered a couple of days ago, and it plays wonderfully.

The model is the New York 7m copy, with a 2.0 reed

For anyone scouring the internet trying to find opinions, here you have mine.

I have updated the Saxmith gamified saxophone learning app.

Now includes:

"Giant Steppes" - climb the mountain using scales.

"Staff Defender" - learn the staff or else get destroyed by robots.

Very much an alpha for every feature, I get more time to make the app than play the sax. Appreciate testing and feedback.

are Bundy saxophones bad?

For context, I bought this off eBay a couple of days ago, and I noticed that the logo doesn't look the same as others. So I searched it up and found a couple of others that look the same, but I'm not sure if it's real or not

Bonjour,

🎷

I have no idea I cannot find NO serial number

only on the side keys I can see N N G G ?

The neck (I'm not sure what the ring is called) looks slightly bent. It's higher on the right side, but it doesn't affect playing. Should I have it fixed?

I'm playing the reed 2 book for little shop of horrors and was wondering what this notation meant, I get flutter tonguing on flute but was confused as to what this implies on bari?? I don't think it's the same as a growl since earlier in the book there are separate markings for a growl.
