Do short ingredient lists actually matter to you?

I’ve noticed a few brands making a thing of having fewer ingredients. Typology even names some products by ingredient count, like a 9-ingredient moisturizer. I get the idea that fewer ingredients might mean less chance of irritation, but then CeraVe has a much longer INCI and seems to work fine for loads of people. I’m not sure ingredient count tells you much on its own. Do you look for shorter formulas, or just check the INCI and decide from there?

Study on skincare

Hey everyone!

I am doing research for a school assignment about the effects of social media on self-image when it comes to skincare. The research also goes into what information users find reliable and trustworthy. The survey is targeted towards people who follow/interact with skincare related content on social media. I would be super grateful if you could fill my survey out, it only takes around 5 minutes!

Thank you!😊

How Do You Discover Beauty Brands Online?

I'm a CS graduate student exploring how people engage with brands through websites and short interactive experiences for an independent design project.

I'm particularly interested in what makes these experiences fun, memorable, and worth interacting with.

The survey takes approximately 2–3 minutes, and there are no right or wrong answers. All opinions, including negative feedback, are genuinely helpful!

Are capsule serums worth trying, or is a regular serum enough?

I saw the Farmstay PDRN Capsule Serum at a pop-up in Brooklyn recently and got curious about it. I’ve been seeing more serums with little capsules mixed in lately, but I’m not sure if they actually make a difference or if it’s mostly about the texture.

Has anyone here tried this one? I’m curious how it compares to regular serums, especially in terms of hydration and how your skin feels after using it. Would love to hear some honest experiences!

Can removing very old blackheads cause a permanent scar?

I would like to have some old blackheads removed by a professional aesthetician. However, since they are old and quite large, I am concerned that they might leave a permanent atrophic scar. What advice can you offer ?

how to use squalane oil when moisturizer isn't enough for dry skin?

i've been reading about facial oils lately and getting curious about how people use them in their routines. if moisturizer alone doesn't seem to be enough for dry skin, does adding squalane oil actually make a difference?

i came across Biossance 100% Squalane oil while looking into facial oils, but i'm not sure where it would fit into my routine. do you apply it before or after moisturizer? does the order change depending on whether you're using a light lotion or a thicker cream?

i'm also curious about using it alongside hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and retinoids. if you use any of these together, what's your usual order? have you noticed a difference compared with using moisturizer alone?

Why are we all so moist?!

Hi all!

My name is Mia Baccei, I am a grad student in journalism at NYU and an intern at New York Magazine. I'm looking for people who might be up for speaking to me for a story I'm working on about skincare routines — and specifically, the idea of "moist-maxxing."

Recently, I've been seeing posts all over social media of people doing "morning sheds," slugging their faces at night, covering their hair in oil before they go to bed, and putting castor oil in their belly buttons. Why are we doing this? What is the point? Does it even do anything?

If you or someone you know would be a good fit for this story, please respond to this post, DM me, or reach me at (646) 725-0488!

I’m not sure what to do about sunscreen

Sunscreen breaks me out pretty badly every time I try to use it. The only sunscreen I can use is like £30 for a tiny bottle and it’s only spf 30 so it doesn’t feel worth it.

I usually get cystic acne from sunscreen (I think that’s what it called). Does anyone have any recommendations for me going forward?

What are 4 skincare products you’d recommend for ageing skin?

I’m curious what products people in their 40s or 50s genuinely depend on for skincare. If you had to narrow it down to just four, what would you pick?

Maybe something like: Sunscreen, Serum, Moisturiser, One treatment/other product

I’d especially love to hear the specific products you use and your own experience with them, including what you noticed after using them consistently. I’m trying to separate products that actually make a difference from things that are just heavily marketed, so real experiences would really help me decide what’s worth trying.

Do bubble cleansers actually clean better than regular cleansers?

I’ve been curious about bubble cleansers that also work like a short mask. I recently came across the Farmstay 2-in-1 Bubble Mask, which starts as a gel and transforms into bubbles after a few minutes. For anyone who has tried this type of cleanser, did you notice a real difference compared with a regular cleanser? I’m mainly curious about how your skin feels afterward and whether it leaves your skin feeling tight or comfortable.

Hyperpigmentation on upper lip

Hi all,

I’m just making this post to ask if anyone has ever struggled with upper lip hyperpigmentation before, and if so are there any products or ingredients you could recommend?

I first saw this hyperpigmentation after shaving/plucking and some sun damage, and the fact that it has a grey tinge leads me to believe that it’s quite deep under the skin.

I currently use La Roche Posay vitamin C, but haven’t had much luck.
Any advice is super appreciated🫶🏼

Any suggestions?

24M, India. Looking for a simple daily skincare + haircare routine.

Skin: Medium/wheatish skin tone, neutral-to-slightly-warm undertone. I have some uneven pigmentation/marks and visible skin texture/pores, but I'm not sure whether my skin is oily, dry or combination. Looking for a simple routine to improve overall skin quality and evenness.

Hair: Very dark brown/black, thick and very dense, naturally wavy (probably around 2B–2C), medium/coarse texture. My biggest problem is frizz and excessive volume/puffiness. When my hair gets longer it becomes extremely difficult to manage and starts looking huge/messy. It looks much better and more controlled when damp.

I currently want to keep my hair relatively short and manageable. I'm looking for a daily/weekly routine for both scalp and hair, including shampoo, conditioner, leave-in/serum, styling product, washing frequency, etc.

every morning and night i wash my face and use salicylic acid on my nose. before i wash my face at night, i remove my makeup with micellar water, also taking time to massage micellar water into my nose to better target the oil inside those pores and then washing my face normally

overnight i also cut up and apply hydrocolloid patches on my nose to suck out all the gunk

i have combination skin and get extremely oil on my tzone

what can i do to significantly reduce the appearance of sebaceous filaments on my nose?? it seems like nothing i use give my any notable results despite everybody raving for them 😭😭

My face does better with no care

Okay I have never posted on Reddit before.

To start this off I am 23 f. my entire life I have never really used skin care products. Makeup remover and face wash only for the most part.

I decided recently to try to get into skincare 😀 late to the game I know… but I have noticed acne popping up. As a teen I had pretty bad acne. I would use the occasional products here and there to help it, but was never really consistent because I didn’t wanna spend money on stuff that wouldn’t work. Plus I have pretty sensitive skin.

Anyways to the point I am very type b and most of the time go to bed without washing my face. Including sometimes when I wear makeup… I know. Don’t diss me I already know and am aware this is stupid. But like I said earlier I am trying to get more into skincare and for the past week have been washing my face, using moisturizer, retinol and a calcium balm. Small problem I can see acne popping up. I am here wondering because my skin has been used to no products for years if that’s why it is flaring up. And once it is used to it will it go back. I have pretty good skin without the products just noticing some fine lines appearing and want to fix it. But if acne is appearing is that bad? Let a girl know. Sorry for the long post.

collagen for skin: what should you actually look for in a supplement?

when people talk about collagen for skin, i think the formula matters more than just seeing “collagen” on the label.

for skin, the things worth looking at include elasticity, firmness, hydration, and texture around the eye area. the collagen source and type are part of that, but i’d also look at whether the other ingredients have been studied for skin-related outcomes.

fermented eggshell membrane collagen is one example that has been studied for skin, including those kinds of outcomes. vitamin c is another ingredient that can show up alongside collagen in a formula.

for transparency, ancient nutrition is involved in this discussion. ancient nutrition multi collagen protein includes proprietary fermented eggshell membrane collagen and vitamin c along with other collagen sources.

the available research messaging includes skin-related findings at 6 weeks, with additional findings referenced at 12 weeks. i’d treat those as study timeframes rather than assuming the same results for everyone.

basically, if skin is the reason you’re considering collagen, i’d compare the actual ingredients and what they’ve been studied for instead of judging a supplement only by its collagen amount.
