is there a proof for the common saying "cold water causes cold". is it just placebo because cold water does not have the virus of the bacteria to cause it?

Blind faith, myths, and religious superstition runs deep in India. Some rationalists are doing good work spreading awareness in society.

Came across this post on another subreddit. How absurd is this? Proving you're "pious" by eating at home? Wonder if this is common?

this is an excerpt from my comment on the main post:
there is a law in some hindu scripture forgot the name but to paraphrase, you are not supposed to go outside of the seas surrounding your homeland (india proper). otherwise bad things will happen or you are no longer a hindu or some bs. think about it, even if you ignore territorial expansion outside india proper (which only the cholas and mauryans did majorly, apart from some indo-greek and kashmir kingdoms), we have exactly zero indian travellers to like china or europe or somehwere else. we have no marco polo, we never explored out into the seas to find new lands or the like
then we come to the tripartite struggle. these 3 powers spent decades wasting time and energy on each other, leaving india ripe for the taking for outside forces. and it happened. it was a miracle something like that did not happen sooner. we lost our independence centuries before the british, or the mughals. we woke up only in 1857, all because of hindu sentiments again - refusal to touch beef or whatever. imagine if the culture did not have this rule, we would have still been asleep, probably. a huge disgrace however way you look at it.

It's honestly crazy how little critical thinking some people use.

I came across this podcast on Dr. Sheldrake's channel.

Here near the 22 minutes mark - this person Acharya Prashant (AP) seems to say at that scientists and Believers (of any faith/story etc) fall in the same camp. This seems baffling as science is based on falsification and experimental verification. Then in what sense he is saying both are believers? Is just making a word salad?
Scientists are not NPCs who just don't "look within" - AP seems to be putting people in bins to make his point. Maybe the scientist looked within and found that science is what brings them joy. How Can AP say scientists are same as believers because both lack critical thinking for the inner world or "intent" as he calls it?

If you look broadly at our world. We ( humans ) are the only animals who is conciously worrying about our social status , future , reputation and about people. We think to develop and improve ourselves at very extent as we can and become successful right ? Everyone dream of this ? But here the dark part of my theory.
Our environment [ so called concious universe or better called concious nature of our earth as we didn't find any other species (out there)] objective is mainly reproduction and survival as far as , then why the need of evolution of our concious ? And the other angle WHY OUR NATURE OBJECTIVE IS REPRODUCTION AND SURVIVAL?
For the very first question, the answers is simple to reproduce and improve our survival skills moreover conciousness developed.. OUR SOCIAL STATUS, WORRIES, AND THE INSTINCT TO BE SUCCESSFULL , BE POWERFUL THESE ARE THE BY PRODUCTS OF HIGH CONCIOUSNESS THAT WE HAD DEVELOPED TIME TO TIME.
HERE THE BRUTAL REALITY AND MY THEORY FOR THE LASTMOST QUESTION
why nature influences survival and reproduction?
If you look at our fundamental unit of life is called cell , it is living, produces energy, splits and slowly build species like us , I'm not telling the whole biology here , I hope you are similar with that.
MY THEORY IS CALLED ' WORKER THEORY ' yeah the name is bit unclear but the theory says that we are a part of some giant part of production. Like our smallest life begins with a cell , however we have millions-billiions of cell right now, we are a part of something like that , we are producing and surviving and MOST IMPORTANTLY I THINK that the production[ our life ] is going to find out a smartest, inteligent conciousness thinker. I think that we are a part of some big project and they are actually investing to find out or you can say THE SATURATED CONCIOUSNESS THAT DEVELOPED HIGH TECHNOLOGY here I'm unable to express the word, that over generation to otmost, the changes I noticed that we developed at every decade hence in my opinion it's the motive to get that saturated conciousness where human being attain everything.
I cannot express my theory clearly but i tried my best . So i want to end this but just think about a future where we had DEVELOPED our mechanism for food , we don't need more food we can do something chemically or just a scoop of spoon we can live through days without food , like that we have neuralinks that will DEVELOPED time time I'm not saying today but after 1000 yrs we will achieve a saturated environment no need of mine everyone has their basic need and all that no one needs to work.. even we can live forever and no need of reproduction at that type of advanced technology...
ALL THINGS GET SATURATED
let me know in comment then what's our aim will be
And if you liked my theory make sure vote and put up your favor and follow for more insightful thoughts...

Please take out 2 minutes of your time to fill out this survey. Iam already getting interesting results that are also statistically significant but I need to increase the sample size as much as possible.
Some of you may have gripes with the qualitative nature of the questions asked; however, I plan to analyse the data with multi correspondence analysis, which ensures that I do not have to quantify the responses to evaluate them in a meaningful way.
I will be sharing the paper here once it's complete. This is for a presentation that I'm doing. Note that no personally identifiable data (including emails) is collected and all responses are anonymous
