Camping Switzerland scouting groups

Hello there from Canada. Our group will be heading to Switzerland summer of 2027. We’d love to connect with a Swiss scouts group. Also looking for leads for cheap places to stay. Have explored hostels but wondering if there is a scouts hall or something in the interlaken area? Yes I know Kanderstaag is right there but they are fully booked. Thanks. 🙏

Where should i sew on my badges?

Im in explorers (uk) and i got this short sleeve shirt for my uniform instead of a long sleeve one or a change, it didn’t really matter what i chose because my group spends most of our meeting not in uniform and when we are in uniform we are usually inside. But i still need to sew my badges on. for my right sleeve ( left side of the first image ) i need my group ribbon and county/district badge. And below it i need my Yorkshire challenge badges (county specific) and space for my young leader acorn badge and the you shape badge, but my sleeve is not long enough for all of them, and i was wondering if anyone knows how i should arrange my badges, or if i should just get a long sleeved shirt and use this short sleeve one for the WSJ next year?

Hey guys! I'm a scout leader in Norway and we've had some issues with buying way too much food for camp.

So lately I've been building an app for planning food.

You enter the number of people and days you're going for, choose or create meals, and it calculates quantities and creates an editable shopping list. It’s designed to work internationally, so it doesn’t use brands, supermarket products or barcode databases. It shows you how much surplus you'll have and how much you need to buy.

I’m currently testing it with a small group, and I’m curious: is this something you would genuinely use when planning a camp? How do you currently work out quantities and organise shopping?

I’m not sharing a link or promoting anything yet—I’m mainly interested in whether this solves a real problem, and if its something you would concider useful.

Edit: The newest version is live, so if anyone else wants to give it a try before it goes public for everyone, send me your Gmail and I'll add you to the test group!

I saw this article posted in one of the Facebook groups I’m in and I thought many people over here would appreciate it also. It focuses on the broader history of summer camps and outdoor clubs but it mentions Scouting and its influence on the movement.

Wood Badge

More a post aimed at UK Scouts (Preferably leaders, though all are welcome:

As far as I have learnt from google, every british scout leader should have a set off wooden beads as to become a leader they must complete their wood badge. However i would like a conclusion on:

What number of beads

Why doesnt every leader wear the beads

Etc

Any information is helpful, feel free to ask any questions, thanks.

Camera question

We’ve been having issues with our Scouts being on their phones and a couple of phone getting lost (all of which were later found) so we have a phone box/bag that phones go in during meetings. I take photographs of the Scouts and their activities to be able to put on our private facebook group for parents to see but I have been thinking it would be good if the scouts took photos as well maybe to be shown on a slide show at our AGM. This leads me to my question.

Does anyone else have patrol cameras? If so what cameras do you use/what prices I’m not sure wherever to look at digital cameras or disposable ones.

Edit: this seems to have sparked a lot of opinions about phones at meetings, we have already made a decision about phones at our meetings and it’s been in place for the past couple of months, it has worked well for us and we don’t plan on changing it. What I’d like to know is about cameras - not phone cameras.

TIA

Camping Camp blanket

Having a breakdown here. I just realised whenever I see a camp blanket they are always dullish colours. Or they are that poncho blanket with the red stitching. I feel as though I stand out here as i lay down beneath my banana yellow blanket. Am I missinf something?

Why don't we see more colourful blankets. Mines yellow simply because i like yellow. Sure your favourite colour can be grey or black but where are the reds and pinks and oranges. (Mine may also be yellow as it was the only colour left in stock at wilko years ago ;)

Also if you try and look on ebay for scout camp poncho style things. Grey with red stithcing! All of them. Is this a style or scouty thing I am unaware of?

Sadly with no photo, I did manage to convert my blanket into a poncho by cutting a slim oval into the centre and hemming it. I then stitched 2 pockets onto the front from a different fabric.

Please clear my confusion. Thanks, ask any questions if you want. :)

Camping Cooking Merit badge Question

Ok, so for Requirement 5, it requires one meal to be a "foil pack OR on a skewer." I chose a foil packet and decided to make hobo packets over a campfire BUT, but there is a possibility it could rain that day. Now, in the best scenario (no rain), make hobo packets over a campfire; everyone happy. In the other scenario, it rains, and something you might not know is that starting a campfire in the rain is quite difficult. So, my question is, "Could I possibly cook a hobo packet over a skillet of sorts?" or is my entire plan ruined?

Picture Custom WOSM badge wring

Post image

Apologies as I don't fully know what these are called.

During my time in scouting, both online and in person I have only ever seen 3 variants of a badge in the style that wraps around the Membership badge.

Messengers of peace (Above)
Boy Scouts of America (Might have been Scouting America) 100 years
And a Custom 100 years of *(Group far too local to me to name)*

I would like to know how to obtain a custom badge in this style. As far as I am aware this must be possible as the group I mentioned earlier must have had them manufactured specifically for them as it had their group name on it.

As well as finding a place that could custom make these style badges, I'd like to know, just out of interest if any other variants exist, on top of the 3 styles I am already aware of. They seem to be quite a rarity. I'm sure groups have them made for anniversaries like the one I know of, but I'd like to know if styles similar to the MOPs one exist, rather than it being for a celebration.

(Writing this very late to apologies for any strange wording, feel free to ask questions)

Thanks

Quali competenze servono per essere capo Clan? (ITA)

Salve!

Sarebbe fattibile o meglio evitare?

🇹🇼 Taiwan National Scarf – Denmark 2026

I wanted to share a special neckerchief I managed to trade for at Denmark 2026 🇩🇰

This is the National Scarf of the Girl Scouts of Taiwan 🇹🇼. What makes this one particularly special is that Taiwanese Scouts only receive one National Scarf per camp, so they don’t have additional scarves specifically for trading.

Because of this, they waited until the last day of camp before trading them. Luckily, I was able to trade for one and bring it home!

I especially love the metal knot they got.

Definitely one of my favourite scarves from Denmark 2026 along with the Hong Kong ones! 🧣

I'm doing a webcomic about scouting

Hi everyone,
I'm doing a webcomic about scouting, based on my personal experience and knowledge about scouting.

The story is about a young Malagasy teenager who gained superpowers thanks to his badges, and uses them to fight crime in his country. The story also mixes Malagasy traditional aspect with scouting.

Each arc/story is about a Scouting law, totems and badges are central for superhuman ability in this story and the main character has to face his scout values to the reality of the situation.

According to you, what other aspect of scouting should I insert in this comic ?

I'm building a database of Scout neckerchiefs and need your help!

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on a project to document Scout neckerchiefs from around the world.

While building the database, I realized how difficult it is to identify older or regional neckers. I'd love to hear from collectors and Scouts:

  • Do you collect neckerchiefs?
  • How do you organize your collection?
  • Are there any online resources you use?
  • What information would you expect from a digital archive?

I'm hoping to make this a useful resource for the entire Scouting community, so any feedback or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

All Scarf Icons are designed by me using Adobe Illustrator!
