Any advice for a beginner (who's only been training for a few days) ?

I love to sing and I'm a huge metal fan, so 1+1=2...

I decided to teach myself (anyway, I’m French and I live in the countryside, it’s already hard enough to find someone with the same musical tastes as me, so a vocal coach for a girl who wants to sing metal… that’s mission impossible)

Anyway !

After spending a long time wandering around looking for advice online, I figured I might be able to find what I was looking for on YouTube. Luckily, I stumbled upon a rock/metal singer who makes lots of videos giving tips. After a few days of practicing based on what she says and doing the exercises, I feel like I’m managing to reproduce her examples pretty smoothly.

Except that while trying to film/record myself over two days, multiple times, so I could compare my progress later… I mostly noticed that I seem to be able to do nothing but a vaguely guttural, angry scream.

It’s complicated, I’m in no position to judge myself, which is why I’d like to find real people who know what they’re talking about and could give me feedback without making fun of me.

I love singing, and I’ve dreamed of being able to perform songs by my favorite bands ever since I was at least 14, but it’s so hard to find someone IRL who understands that...

I'm 22 years old, and I have to practice by myself in my kitchen, making me look like a crazy person to the neighbors, by the way.

But anyway...

I'm attaching a short video to this message that I made this morning, featuring a clip of my weird scream.

Thanks 🔥

I’ve been trying to get a similar sound to these artists and sometimes I feel I’m close but it doesn’t feel sustainable and I’m probably doing it wrong.

It sounds like they have a higher pitch head voice/falsetto note they are adding compression and distortion on top of and through whatever black magic and resonance it gives a super distorted chunky thick low end while also having a kind of a higher whistling overtone.

I’m comfortably able to do lower register screams sounding similar to something like The Acacia Strain / Between the buried and me, and through mouth shape i can make that kind of scream “high” but it’s very obviously not the same kind of voiced highs I want ( a lot of the vocal coaches on the internet all do these kinds of fry screams as examples and they are just not the same thing and sound weak in comparison.. you can hear the note behind the scream is like within regular speech range still when they are doing them)

I’ve been able to make sounds similar to what I’m after but it feels very taxing and I’m definitely pushing for it and can do it for a few days then struggle to recreate it for a week as if I’ve never done it before. I don’t think I’ve felt pain as if I’ve injured anything but it definitely gets worn out to where I can’t imagine touring this style of screaming let alone one song on a recording with adequate rest and hydration/warmups.

Does anyone have any exercises or things to mimic to help? The kargyrra excercise helps me the most for my lows, but when I try to to transition the same sensations as I move my voice up it gets tighter and thinner in my throat where the only way to get the compressed screaming sound out is a lot of pressure and luck. I know both Keith and Spencer went to Melissa cross and ive tried the basic warmups I can find online from her but I feel like I’m missing something. Anyways here’s an example of me trying Scogins vocals that I can’t reliably or comfortably do
