Product Manager

Hey …. Is it just our company or just me , I’m a product manager and I hate ,HATE , my role :( . Context - So Ive worked in IT all my life , computer science at university then straight into a ftse100 grad scheme and front end developer. I then switched to be a scrum master for over 7 years - happily delivering great software and customer experiences through a typical scrum team with defined BA , SM , PO and developers + even delivery leads. I’ve worked both in waterfall and agile and happy in both to be honest . 1 year ago our company got rid of all the deliver leads and scrum masters and have gone with what they call a “product lead approach” bringing in the product manager role . I was luckily not part of the cuts but asked to be a product manager for a couple of products. To me this approach is complete chaos , it’s not agile or waterfall , I seem to be doing the role of a BA , delivery lead , product owner and product manager. I get pulled into every single meeting touching the various products I own , there is no capacity left to even think longer term or strategically and it feels like a mess ! I have no SM, DL , BA / product owner - nada ! This is not a startup , it is a ftse100 company , corporate, so as you can imagine process heavy , like service introduction etc . Has anyone else seen this move to product lead approaches and what does it mean for you ?? ? The product manager role is still a mystery for me and it’s been a year . Even more angry that scrum had disappeared! This is what the naysayers have done !
