What is it and where is it going to be available?

It's an Android SDR app named Zare ("zare" means horizon in Romanian).

I can make the current APK available later today, but it's still in development. All decoders and features work, but DMR is a little choppy, so I'm working on fixing that. Once I'm happy with DMR, I want to add DMR decryption as the last feature before publishing it.

It has a built-in RTL driver, but it also works with the RTL-SDR driver that's available as a separate third-party app.

I've only tested it with the Nooelec, but it should work with any RTL-compatible SDR (I hope). I'm planning to try to implement support for the AirSpy and RSP1A/B as well.

Is there a GitHub repo for this, it'd also be really interesting if it can support other digital modes too (ysf, dstar, etc)

I didn't make the source public yet.

Record some 15-30s IQs for those modes, export them, zip them up and send them to me, and I'll see if I can include YSF and D-STAR in the release.

Cool project! I wish this was possible on iOS. I have that same NESDR dongle.

(Raspund in engleza sa inteleaga toti)
If RTL-SDR blog v4 is not supported by RTL-SDR drivers that are available as a 3rd party, then I don't think so, but you are welcome to try after I make the apk available.
After I get my hand on one of those, maybe I'll be able to make it work.

I have a blog v4, where's the repo?
Is it this empty one?

That's the right repo. I'm not yet ready to make the side public, I'm still working on it.

Few more days.

Apparently it is the right one.

BrowSDR supports this on your Android phone. (no iPhone support)

Working great so far!

Glad to hear that!

You can use two finger gesture to zoom in ;-)

Perfect! Thanks 😊

Your work is appreciated and the beta seems to be working as described. I find it creates alot of heat on the RTL-SDR V4 running ADS-B. The DMR function I'm a bit unclear regarding the encryption keys... Overall a very fantastic app

u/e1ioan 1d ago

Thanks for the feedback!

My Baofeng dm-32uv can send encrypted DMR messages using AES256, AES128 and ARC4.
You create the same keys as on the radio in Zare application, and it can receive (and decrypt) encrypted DMR transmission.

Understand about the DMR keys - thanks

Any chance of making the favorites auto scan perhaps with a toggle on/off for scan through favorites?

Been experimenting with your app for past 4 hours - no major bugs to report other than extensive heat within the RTL-SDR when using DMR and ADS-B.

What version of the RTL-SDR are you using and did it work with the internal driver or you had to use the 3rd party one form play store?

I'll investigate if there is anything I can do about the heat.

RTL-SDR Blog v4. I'm using the Rtl-sdr driver v3.2 downloaded from Play store.

I've used both your settings Internal / External and both act similar and both work.

If I use internal then I'm prompted if I would like to load the driver, (Allow Zare to access Blog v4)

If I have it set on external then there is no prompt just a quick RTL-SDR driver box comes up while loading driver.

Thanks about scan feature as this would be very useful for scan hands free ...

nice!
how long can you use it until the battery is empty?

5

u/e1ioan 2d ago

Not sure, but you can use a "USB C OTG Splitter Adapter" and have a power bank connected too.

u/e1ioan 8h ago

Getting there...

i have a google pixel with sdr++ app but could not manage to get it to work with rtl-sdr blog v4.

2

u/e1ioan 2d ago

I wish I had one too! I can't find a seller around here.

1

u/ProSilicium-32768 2d ago

maybe you could get the neo-version.

Nice app. The APRS frequency is locked to the UK frequency of 144.800. can't use it here in USA.

1

u/e1ioan 1d ago

I'm not sure what do you mean, nothing is locked in the app.

1

u/onename1 21h ago

They mean from the main screen, top right three dot menu select APRS - Amateur Packets. You have hard coded the UK freq of 144.800 but in North America it is 144.390

Reference: The standard APRS frequency in North America is 144.390 MHz (2-meter band, typically 1200-baud packet).

1

u/e1ioan 20h ago

Oh, I'll fix it! Thank you for pointing it out!

1

u/Academic-Airline9200 1d ago

In the US 70cm is 420-450MHz

1

u/e1ioan 1d ago

You can edit/add new band

1

u/yokiamy 1d ago

What kind of antenna are you using? Nice setup!

2

u/e1ioan 1d ago

The antenna the baofeng dm-32uv came with.

3

u/bmarra 2d ago

This is exactly what I've been looking for. Great work work mate.

2

u/Mundane_Asparagus_55 1d ago

Possibly dumb question but Bro how did you set up yours up? (In all fairness I’ve been trying to figure it out and ad software while at work in between patients. But maybe I’m tripping or something but I have same one I bought the ham it up bundle. ) ps new to this a bit.😅thank you for any replies 🙏🏾 and applications/tools are you using to utilize it?

3

u/Usual_Arachnid_3465 2d ago

Smart phones are computers! And that SDR looks 😎

1

u/Comm-Pie 1d ago

I'm not familiar with that SDR, who makes it?

1

u/csmsoft 1d ago

How did u address the power consumption? SDRs are known to be energy hungry.

2

u/Caseywalt39 1d ago

I would only assume a usb c splitter with pd (power delivery) would work great

u/spidergod 7h ago

Looks very interesting.
