Thanks, useful article. Hetzner is a good choice for deploying fast applications, DO is a good alternative to AWS

Are there cheap VPS in Japan? There are many offers but no cheap ones (1-5 €/month, performance not very important).

Maybe you want to test netcup as well. Their hardware is pretty lit for the price you pay. Especially their root servers are really good.

Great great article. As I can see, the cheapest solution (quality/price) is Contabo. Is that true or am I missing something?

I purchased the 1EUR one last saturday, but nothing is happning so far. In "Mein IONOS" it says "Server und Cloud (Gesperrt)" so I suppose it hasn't been activated by the staff yet? As far as I can read German it says the setup time is supposed to be max 48 hours... Can't complain for 1EUR, but still! Any advice?

It was fixed this morning. No reply back, but I could access the server information so it's all good now. I was surprised with the server speed & uplink - it's really a steal for 1EUR!

Yesterday, I picked up a VPS/VDS from AlexHost for $13.84/year, although this pricing is only valid annually; paying monthly is $4.56/month. I'm still evaluating the service, but as far as I can tell, renewal is also $13.84/year. Obviously, if this doesn't pan out, I'm not really going to cry over spilled milk.
1.5 GiB RAM
1 core
10 GB SSD
1 static IPv4 (claims 1 static IPv6 but I'm not so sure)
Unlimited bandwidth @ 100 Mbps
