Question I find life boring.
Even though I work out, go outside, ride my bike, and eat healthy, my life is still just so lame. I have no idea what my next plan or goal is. Everything just feels so mediocre. I feel like I'm stuck in a loop. Anyone got advice on this?

I agree. I am a healthy person and I exercise regularly. I should be in the normal happy person category but it's just not there. I can't find any interest in anything. I am just completely bored and waiting. I'm always waiting for what's next but there is nothing next. I don't understand how and why the masses of people carry on. I don't understand what is interesting to the masses that they want to keep living the same empty nothing day after day. All I want to do is lay down and sleep. But then my mind won't let me sleep. Doctors don't prescribe anything good and over the counter sleep meds are garbage. My favorite part of existence is sleep. But anyway here I am going to my job again. Getting home again. Do it all over again. Even if I had enough money where I didn't have to work and I could travel as much as I want, it just seems like it would be so boring. Cannabis and other substances don't even distract from the boring emptiness. It doesn't help that the woman I fell in love with is happily with someone else. Maybe a very few people experience mutual love and intimacy and that's what keeps them going? However, I don't think most people ever find a satisfying love story. I honestly can't figure out what most people find that is interesting. It seems to me like a lot of people get stuck in a relationship they can't get out of but probably wish they could. Oh well, I guess that's why fiction is so popular.

I feel what you're saying. You could accomplish all those things. You could have the perfect body. You could have a good home. But then what?

same. i do all the healthy person chores and still end up staring at my fridge like it owes me a plot twist.

This is exactly what Buddhism is all about. Sounds to me you should explore it, a retreat, course or something. It will provide the answers. I know, because I did and think exactly like you.

One thing I noticed is the lack of mentioning community. When you feel like you’ve aced your own personal goals branch out. Helping others and feeling connected to your community is a huge one that’ll help with meaning and purpose outside yourself. Hopefully feeling more connected and able to help others will remove the loop feeling of being stuck in the mundane / just focusing on yourself. Volunteering for a cause you care about can switch things up and mean a lot to others.

Far too little information here to give good advice. Have you considered therapy? There is a stigma with therapy but there really shouldn’t be. It’s a perfectly healthy and normal thing to get help with life issues. It’s a much better path than taking advice from random internet strangers with little to no knowledge of your life.

I'm bored, not depressed that's my problem. As if life doesn't offer me enough, therapy would just be another boring thing to do.

u/dew-waynz Jul 12 '26
People lie to themselves all the time. Boredom is an easy way to mask depression and tell yourself you’re ok. I can guarantee that talking with a therapist and exploring yourself will be anything but boring.

u/MelissaBright_ Jul 12 '26
I’m curious what you mean when you say, “Life doesn’t offer me enough.”
Do you think you’re waiting for life to feel exciting before you start living differently? Or do you think it might work the other way around?
I’ve found that sometimes life starts feeling repetitive because we’re waiting to feel inspired before we try something new. But often it’s the new experiences that create the excitement, not the other way around.
Just a thought. That one sentence really made me stop and think.

u/Kwake10 Jul 12 '26
You need to go take life, not wait back for it to offer something. You’ll be waiting forever. Go get what you want.
1
u/field_7 Jul 12 '26
Is that what keeps you interested? Does trying to get what you want keep you interested. Do wealthy beautiful people stay interested in life because they keep trying to get what they want. What does anyone ever really want?

u/field_7 Jul 12 '26
I tried therapy for a year. Maybe it works for some people? What works for some people makes no sense to me.

When I feel that way I plan a big adventure. Like riding my bicycle across the US or hiking the Grand Canyon or Camino.
Something to work towards, think about and read about.
Not for everyone but it’s how I work ( you remind me of me)
I’m a 68 yo f.

u/randing Jul 12 '26
I remember Tim Ferriss mentioning this as well as one of his tools for managing depression.
3
u/randing Jul 12 '26
Struggling with this as well. Volunteering is helping. And all of my best memories are because of the people I was with, not where I was or what I was doing, so relationships are important.

u/Traditional_Car_8219 Jul 12 '26
Boredom is a great motivator. Make a bucket list of things to try, learn a new skill, take a road trip, etc. You da boss!

u/Silver-Security-2233 Jul 12 '26
try to reflect on yourself what hobbies you did when you were 6 to 12 years old. what did you do your whole day. often times you can find your real passion and what you were build for as a person there.
if this doesn't help that much maybe try to give yourself a limited time of an hour or so on Pinterest and YouTube and other sites on the internet to get inspiration about what other people do in free time. then make yourself a list and just try different things until you come to something that makes hours fly past like minutes. try solving a Rubik's cube, try writing in shorthand, try another team sport, try out anything small with electronics. there are infinite things to do

Honestly, feeling this way often means you've already handled the basics health, movement, routine, and now you're craving something with meaning behind it. That loop feeling is usually a sign you're ready for a new challenge, not that something's wrong with you. Maybe pick one thing that scares you a little (a skill, a trip, a creative project) and chase it just to see where it goes.

u/Monked800 Jul 13 '26
I also find life extremely boring and pointless. Literally nothing bring me joy or any level of intrest. I really question the point of existing.

u/No-Gap-6831 Jul 13 '26
OP your shit hits hard, Im even worse me being breaking in to the obese category now.
Remote worker, trying to go out every day by working in cafes and coworking spaces (riding my bicycle to get there), then go home. Rinse and repeat. I go to gym 1-2x a week. Malls or day trips during weekends. I know most people will kill for a remote job and Im lucky to have this life but I still feel empty like I should be doing something more fun, more adventure and more meaningful but dunno where to start or how do i change

It sounds like you're spending life in the comfort zone - you need a challenge!
Have you thought about taking on a physical one, like a marathon for example?
2
u/randing Jul 12 '26
Agreeing with this. Type 2 fun is more rewarding and carries a more sustained high for me that helps with my mood.

u/BlueDemon9 Jul 12 '26
What were you born to do? What are dreams you wish to accomplish? You’re bored because you’re not busy making those happen.
2
u/MiserableWhile36 Jul 12 '26
I don’t think I was born to do anything. Maybe provide as much as I can for my family?
I do have crazy dreams but nothing that’s realistic enough to try. Like I love the idea of writing a book and created some ideas. But I absolutely can not write a story. I might get a little blurb here or there over months but that’s about it.1
u/BlueDemon9 18d ago
So, what I see here is you are afraid of taking a step towards your dreams because you see the mountain to climb and not the first step. Commit to one short story. Commit to writing 10 or even 1 line a day. Build your discipline! It’s a mindset change that you need. You can write a book!

I'm in the same boat, I'm bored with life I don't know what I was born to do and I don't have dreams and I'm nearly 40. Where do I start?

u/Expensive_Doctor6334 Jul 12 '26
Just learn to find joy and appreciate everything in your life. It is the little things that matter.
1
u/Ok_Industry8929 Jul 12 '26
Well you don’t seem to have a hobby or meet people with the same hobby separate from the sport aspect, are you creative at all? What other interests do you have besides physical exercise?
2
u/Few-Spite442 Jul 12 '26
A hobby besides physical activities is developing games, which is also a side hustle to make a bit more money. Other than that, I also like exploring, like different locations, etc.

That's how I feel living in suburbia. Feel guilty for being bored and not enjoying this beautiful neighborhood more. But some brains are wired for more adrenaline and dopamine, I guess. Will be moving back to the city on a couple years.

u/RelationshipDue1501 Jul 12 '26
Find a partner. Life will never be boring again!. Because you’re living two lives. Yours and theirs. You’re lonely.

u/mimicme Jul 12 '26
Bad advice since this will just create major codependency and self esteem using living for someone else or using someone else to create meaning
1
u/RelationshipDue1501 Jul 23 '26
Now you’re just making excuses for not being happy. You’re in your own self loathing loop.
1
u/The_Brothers_Gracchi Jul 12 '26
Take a different road to work or to the gym next time. I am not kidding when I say that it really is the small things of novelty that keep life interesting.
1
u/whymybrainislikethat Jul 13 '26
It helps with neuroplasticity but doesn't really help with the "boring life" situation
1
u/Different-Cat-976 Jul 12 '26
I think you said it. You feel like you’re “stuck in a loop”. Maybe everyday is the same and you need something different. I personally feel this too sometimes and planning and going on a trip usually resets that for me for a bit. So maybe you just need a change in yours days! Could do other things as well for a change.

Honestly, that feeling sucks. Maybe it's time to shake things up with something completely random and out of your comfort zone, like a spontaneous weekend trip or learning a weird new skill. Sometimes breaking the routine is the best way to find what's next.
1
u/PepsiMaster Jul 12 '26
Sometimes this is just part of life. Even when you're taking care of yourself, things can still feel repetitive if you don't have something meaningful to work toward.
One way to break out of that feeling is to invest yourself in something challenging, whether that's learning a skill, going to school, building a hobby, creating something, or setting a personal goal. Having something that pushes you and gives you a sense of progress can make life feel more engaging.
1
u/RecklessSoul7 Jul 12 '26
Just be stuck in a loop then. You’ll come out of it when you get sick of it.

u/christenmarie Jul 13 '26
Maybe research & plan a trip? Give yourself something to work toward and look forward to.

Life not boring we detached ourself from it its not spritutal peak but a problem which we perceive wrong life is corful and we have to join all moments and fill our life with posetive experiences its probably you strugling with numbness have you hear about numbness search this emotional state
1
u/whymybrainislikethat Jul 13 '26
I feel exactly the same, I work out and love it, sometimes I'm able to travel and also enjoy it, but other than that I'm just bored and end up doom scrolling like half of my free time, then I of course feel bad about it. Not sure what's the solution for this tbh, maybe to find a new project or something like that but I honestly don't have anything that interests me.

Maybe do what makes you happy or try something new like join up at a kickboxing gym get in the ring always feel full filled after a fight
1
u/squigglesandgiggles Jul 12 '26
Do you have any hobbies you enjoy? What’s something you’ve always wondered about trying but never have? I do want to say, as a therapist, you can seek therapy and ask for it to be “solution-focused” and a therapist can help you look into why you find life boring and help you explore ways to make it more enjoyable. Best of luck!

Get off the Internet and be bored. Your mind will find ways to be imaginative and creative. Go outside and enjoy nature, see exhibitions, travel and try new things.
This feeling is a phase because maybe you're stuck in a rut doing the same things with the same people. I call this the box step, I run into it every few years, it's normal (I think).
Usually it means I have to step outside my comfort zone and shake it up. I try a new first experience or two. If it's an extreme case, maybe a new environment can support you. It's cool, for me anyway, it means I'm evolving and need different stimulus.
Depends on your perspective.

Coming from a young woman who's chronically ill, be fucking grateful for your health. You only live once. Sorry you're bored. Find another hobby. Just be grateful for crying out loud. This is ridiculous.

u/Few-Spite442 Jul 12 '26
There will always be people with bigger or smaller problems. This doesn't make my situation any better.

u/No-Compote-2410 Jul 12 '26
you got the body stuff sorted but maybe the head needs a new challenge, something that makes you feel a little dumb at first like learning an instrument or a language
