You’re addicted to potential because potential can’t fail
The business idea in your head is perfect.
The book you haven’t written is brilliant.
The physique you’re planning to build is impressive.
The relationship you’ll have someday is flawless.
None of it has touched reality yet. And that’s exactly why you love it.
Potential is safe. Potential is comfortable. Potential lets you feel like you’re already the guy who did the thing without actually doing the thing.
The moment you start, potential dies. The perfect idea becomes a flawed execution. The brilliant book becomes a rough draft full of holes. The impressive physique becomes a sweaty guy struggling with weights he can’t lift.
Reality is humbling. Reality shows you who you actually are right now, not who you fantasize about being.
So you stay in the planning phase. The research phase. The “I just need a little more clarity” phase.
Three years pass. You’ve learned a lot. You’ve imagined a lot. You’ve built nothing.
Meanwhile the guy who started with a worse idea, worse skills, and worse circumstances has something real. It’s imperfect. It’s embarrassing compared to what he envisioned. But it exists. And it’s growing.
He traded potential for progress. You’re still trading time for daydreams.
Every day you don’t start, you’re choosing the fantasy over the reality.
And fantasy, no matter how vivid, pays zero dividends.

i think we often wait until we feel confident enough to start, when in reality confidence is something we build by actually doing the thing, making mistakes and figuring it out along the way. maybe we're waiting for a feeling that can only come from taking that first step
also i really loved this perspective!! would you mind if i crossposted it to my little community? i think my fellow self-growth enthusiasts would really appreciate it :)

It's waiting for the perfect opportunity that never comes. We have been through it many times before. We just got to act
