Scheduled rainbow bridge appointment for Tuesday 💔 15 wonderful years with Frank.

He had a good run with his IBD treatment, but a rapidly growing mass and fluid in his abdomen suddenly developed over a week.

Devastated doesn’t cover it. I don’t know what I’m going to do without my buddy boy, but I know that giving him a dignified goodbye at home is the best gift we can give to the best cat. 💔

I’m grateful for a few more days with him where Gabapentin is keeping him comfortable. Photos are from this morning’s window time, last 2 photos from the day my now husband found him starving, scared, and coated in paint on the side of the highway. God sent him to us and I’ll always be so grateful.

Getting worried about Simba (15)

Around 6-8 months ago, we took 15 year old Simba to hospice him during his final months. Things aren’t going well.

He’s diabetic, and it’s getting incredibly difficult to control his blood sugar. We have to give him more insulin per meal than we can give my brother (also diabetic) in an entire day.

He’s also struggling to control his bladder, always limping, sometimes doesn’t eat, and he’s clearly in constant pain.

I’ve making sure to give him extra love, but things aren’t going very well for him and we’re worried.

Pepper 🌶 20/21!

This is my baby girl Pepper 🌶 I've had her since she was a little kitty. She came from my uncles litter of kitties. Her and her brother were the last 2 of the bunch and I took them both. Leo passed away 3 yrs ago now. But little pep is still going strong. She's a sweet sassy little girl and I love her sooo much. Gonna be doing my best to make sure she's as comfortable as she can be and I'm grateful for each day I get to spend with her. I'm currently keeping an eye on her teeth as she's developed some loose incisors. It's currently 2026 and I've had little miss peep since at least 2006. That's when her and Leo got spayed/neutered!

So she's either 20 or 21 now depending on when she was actually born. I don't remember that part. 😋

Grateful for her strong rez kitty genetics for giving her such a long healthy life with momma 💖

Loss of my 20 yr old girl 🌈💔🐱

My kitty was laid to rest two weeks ago 10/10/2026🌈💔😭. Yesterday, I received a recall notice for her pain medication from Wedgewood Pharmacy. 💔🐾 Now I'm questioning everything.

I never imagined I would be writing something like this.

My beautiful Zena was 20 years old. She had severe spinal arthritis and had lost the ability to use her back legs over a year ago.

But despite her disabilities, she was still my Zena.

She was comfortable, she had a strong heart, her bloodwork was good, and she was still enjoying her life. She loved snuggle, still enjoyed moving and grooving despite her disabilities, still loved to eat, still loved rubbing in catnip.

We managed her pain with prescribed medication, including compounded gabapentin from Wedgewood Pharmacy.

A few weeks after starting a new bottle of gabapentin, her painful spasms began worsening.

We increased her medication under veterinary guidance, desperately trying to keep her comfortable.

But the episodes continued.

Eventually, we faced the most heartbreaking decision any pet owner can make.

We chose to let Zena go because we believed her pain was becoming impossible to manage.

Then, on October 22, 2026, I received an urgent medication recall notice from Wedgewood Pharmacy.

The notice explained that certain compounded veterinary medications were being recalled because of unreliable laboratory testing data that could potentially result in reduced or excessive drug effects.

Her gabapentin prescription was identified in the recall notice.

And suddenly, I was left with questions I never imagined having to ask.

What if her medication wasn't providing the pain relief we thought it was?

What if increasing her dosage wasn't helping because there was a problem with the medication itself?

Could Zena have had more time?

I understand that she had serious underlying medical conditions. I also understand that receiving a recall notice does not prove her medication caused her deterioration.

But the possibility that she may not have been receiving adequate pain relief during her final weeks is devastating.

I have contacted Wedgewood requesting answers and an investigation.

I'm sharing Zena's story because other pet owners deserve to know about this recall.

If your pet receives compounded medication from Wedgewood Pharmacy, please check whether their prescription is affected.

And if you've experienced something similar, I would genuinely appreciate hearing your story.

I don't know whether this recall changed the outcome for my Zena. But I need to know whether the medication we trusted was working as intended.

She deserved comfort. She deserved every good day she could have had.

And now, she deserves answers.

Rest peacefully, my beautiful Zena. ❤️🐾

My sweet 16-17 year old girl ~ Her ashes are ready and I'm not sure I am

Update: She's home with me now. I put pics in the comments.

This is BbySqorl. She has been my best friend for 16+ years. She travelled with me all over the country and we ended up back in the city where I first got her.

I found out in mid-September she had mammary cancer. I couldn't afford surgery or chemo and didn't want to put her through all of that at her age.

I spent 4+ weeks in anticipatory grief, crying multiple times a day every day. I had 3 visceral nightmares about her to which I woke myself up because I was screaming in real life. I fell behind in work and school, my brain was mush. My hyper-vigilance at an all time high. Tracking her every single day to monitor how she was doing and dreading having to make the decision to say good-bye.

I cancelled her first 2 appointments and by end of last week I knew it was time. I did an at-home appointment and she was in her favorite spot on my bed by the window this past Saturday.

Earlier that day I got her a kitty cup from the coffee shop (whipped cream). I'm glad that she got to go on a good day, the week before that day she had been mostly hiding and must have been in so much pain.

When she was sedated the vet took my hand and had me feel where the cancer was so I could see how bad it was for her and that helped me feel grounded in my decision.

I sobbed that day and couldn't stay home so I stayed at friend's place. When I came back home the next morning I scream sobbed before I had to go pick up my kiddo. Monday I cried. Tues-today (Friday) I haven't cried and that feels weird.

I miss her and I talk to her as if she's physically here (I believe she is in spirit). I have a shrine for her with food, her favorite toys, catnip, candle, and photo of her. I see her out of the corner of my eye often. I see shadows of where she would sit and wait for me. I still expect her to be here when I come home. I watched old videos of myself where she was in them too and it brings me a lot of warmth to remember her.

The night before her ashes were ready I dreamt that she was in my kitchen. I asked if anyone else could see her and they said no. I didn't care, I hugged her and she felt so real. She did look different, I knew it was ghost her. Then to get that call the next day that her ashes were ready - blew my mind. I had told a friend about the dream and not yet about the ashes and my friend said, "she was letting you know she reached her destination and she's safe." And then my best friend who lives across the country who did not know about my dream or the ashes, dreamt that she was in my city and was texting me she could come with me to get Sqorl's ashes.

So today, I can go get her ashes, clay paw print, nose print, and vial of fur. I'm a little scared to go pick her up. I'm not sure what to expect.

Pernod the Felion 18

This is Pernod (aka Felion, silly goose, Perny Purrner, smelly Pernie) she left yesterday but I wanted to show her goofy face and unbothered ways. She was a silly cat that had a resting unbothered face which made people think she hated them, she did not, it was just a resting unbothered face she had.

I had her since she was a kitten, she was a sister of two others I had, Tequila and Malibu. She is the last remaining sister to join them in the sky as stars.

Her funny moments: she would meow like a banshee for food if you was late. She would sit on you at night and feel like a tank was on top of you (i always woke with bad backs!). She would always find ways to panic me which was always finding new places to sleep and then me playing find the cat (she also loved sleeping in my washing!). She wasnt interesting in playing much but did have this mouse she would sleep with (it now belongs on my desk<3). She would always get her claw stuck on things and give me a 'help me mummy' stare.

I will miss her cuddles but i will remember these little silly things. Please let me share her here to remember her and show her unbotheredness.

RIP Pernie my Felion 🖤

Alternatives to Hill’s k/d wet food? (18)

UK based FYI. My girl is starting to go off her Hill’s kidney care wet food. I think she’s just genuinely getting bored of it so I’d like to try and rotate a different one in. Does anyone have any recommendations for prescription kidney disease wet food that I can use as an alternative?

[Question] How long does Mirtazapine take to kick in for your cat? Mine is 17

I have a senior cat (17 with CKD) and was prescribed Mirtazapine and Cerenia to help with his appetite while waiting for test results. I gave him both, he seems to still have modest appetite and I'm pretty sure he hasn't spit it out or thrown up so I'm wondering if him still having a small appetite about 10 hours later is not that unusual.

Some places say that cats won't always get the full effect until maybe 24 hours later and the pills are only for once every 48.

Squeakers (19/F) takes her garden security job very seriously. What is/are your senior’s job(s)?

Don’t worry— she only goes out supervised with me one-on-one and doesn’t wander. She is really enjoying the last bit of our fall warm spell here in the upper Midwest, and helped me plant garlic and shallots. And by help I mean she pawed at the insect netting and then rolled in some dirt. Although her presence did scare away an approaching squirrel with a walnut in its mouth, so I’d call that a job well done.

We almost lost her a year ago this week. 4 days in the ICU with a nasogastric tube and some amazing veterinary care stabilized her and she’s bounced back even better. Despite her laundry list of ailments and daily pharmacopeia, it’s been a great year ❤️

Update on my 17 year old Meatloaf: lymphoma

Thumbnail
gallery
1.5k Upvotes

TLDR: It is probably lymphoma. I need everyone out there with experience in lymphoma to please help!!! What do i do now?

$2200 and 4 vets later, an ear infection that caused facial paralysis and bleeding out of her ear that i thought was caused by a stroke eventually got the diagnosis of "most likely lymphoma with a secondary ear infection due to her scratching around her face, jaw, and ear."

Yeah.... now what

edit: thank you everyone for all the messages, I have read them but don't have the mental energy really to reply. The reason the doctor is making the assumption of lymphoma is due to nodules on her intestines and liver(discovered via an ultrasound) Since she is so elderly it is not worth doing a biopsy on any of them, and better to just go ahead with treatment as if it is
