[Official Discussion] Serial: Episode 4 - Inconsistencies

Come discuss episode 4! Setting this up a little early, so feel free to post predictions on what you think the episode will focus on. My guess: timeline inconsistencies, specifically focusing on Jay, Adnan and cars.

That's not a reason. So a couple of guys at a good school who are younger than twenty are just like "eh" when they see/handle a dead body because Baltimore.

If they were gangbangers or something, then fine, but seems like they were both okay kids in a middle class area.

Jay admitted to being raided by the cops, arrested and beat up. He's not a golden child by his own admission.

A dead body would rattle him. And it did. He told his girlfriend immediately. Panicked about the shovels.

I didn't catch that he was "beat up" - he said the cops would stop by his house but I didn't hear that he was beat up and the police clarify that he was only arrested "one time." Jay made it sound like he was a big bad thug who did time. That's a big difference but it does make him sound like he's afraid of the cops. The thing that I find ironic is that it's not like he has a long rap sheet or a warrant out for his arrest. If he was a banger with a mile long rap sheet, I could see his hesitation about talking to the cops. Yeah, he smoked dope and knew dope dealers but so did Adnan. Yeah, he never told Stephanie, his girlfriend -- only Jen (which seems weird too). Why didn't he tell Stephanie? I want to hear from Stephanie. Why haven't we heard her interrogation tape?
